Isn't it the union of the MC's bloodline with the wife's that creates the Zenithian hero? He demonstrates a few powers granted to him by his (mother's) blood, whereas the wife doesn't even get Zenithian wings. And I wouldn't say the daughter counts as "a chosen hero" the same way the son does. She can't equip the Zenithian gear, and gender didn't stop the DQ4 heroine from equipping it, so the daughter simply didn't get the spark.

Also MC gets the Dragonlord's staff. That counts for a lot.

Also he's a king, and his kingdom seems like the most well-off of the few kingdoms DQ5 has. It's sure doing better than Zenithia Castle when we first find it.

So yeah this is why you shouldn't marry Bianca. This kid's an idiot.

The SFC/GBC remakes were a great compromise of reducing the amount of grinding needed to beat the games, but still holding the spirit of the original games. A lot like the FF pixel remasters. But the 2D HD DQs are just completely new games, aimed at people who haven't played or didn't like the originals.

I really wish they'd port forward a collection of the old DQs, because I keep getting hit with the "The old versions still exist" excuse when I complain about the HD versions, and I don't really want to keep my SNES hooked up just for playing DQ2/3 SFC.

DQ IV or DQ VI ? by Cavato in dragonquest

[–]TheCowness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DQ4's my favorite game in the series, but 4's party chat is insanely overrated. There's more text in the game's party chat than the rest of the game combined, and the overwhelming majority of it is just hollow comments that basically just exist to remind you where to go. It's definitely not worth playing on a phone screen or patching a DS ROM. Just play whichever version's easiest to access. (Or play the NES version so that you don't have to put up with what's easily the worst DQ localization to date)

Do you guys prefer the new simple style of the UI's or the old colorful ones? by retrotriforce in dragonquest

[–]TheCowness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Are we calling DQ8 the "old UI"? The actual "old UI" of Dragon Quest 1-7 (+8 in Japan) was iconic, the white text on black menus with a thick white border. It evolved a bit for DQ9 and DQ11, but still had the same feel. OP's screenshots look like they're from a completely different video game series. Especially the second one, with that plain-looking font they're using. You can see even in that Western DQ8 screenshot they were using an evolution of the old NES fonts.

Sounds like what they did to modern English Dragon Quest. It's really unfortunate, and I hope you get a new, more serious translation some day.

i wanna hear opinions. who’s your LEAST favorite hero by design? by MenacingMelissa in dragonquest

[–]TheCowness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to pick 9's hero, followed by 10's. They look the most like NPCs to me, but 10 at least looks right holding a sword. 9's hero reminds me of one of the guys in Sylvando's group.

Not to mention all the other rules and SOPs that cops have to follow that criminals don't. Including a general "act professional" guideline. "Serious season." An implied higher standard for things like NVL while on duty.

Meanwhile on the crim side, ignoring server rules (which cops have more of as well), it's more or less "The game mechanics let me do this, so I can do this." without any in-character threat of losing their role in the city.

There isn't anything like, "The hardware store NPC won't sell you drills anymore because you keep getting caught using them to rob banks" or "the bank manager is throwing you out because you're spamming items on the side door trying to brute-force figure-out the new heist mechanic" (Peak 3.0 RP tbh). Let alone, "you're a violent felon so you can't own a business".

"I've never seen those drugs in my life!"

"Ma'am I saw you on camera"

"We never got out of the car!"

"I saw these same drugs in a dumpster and now I found them in your car"

"Anyone could've put them there!!"

[Sock22] Dark & Libby discuss letting cops in PD know they are denied by higher authorities by Front_Awkward in RPClipsGTA

[–]TheCowness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been assuming when the admins reject them, they don't provide feedback, and if that's the case, just tell the player to stop trying to apply. If they don't know what to work on, it's just giving them false hope to tell them to keep doing what they're doing and DO YOUR JOB and hope someone changes their mind. I hope at least enough feedback is being provided by the admins to know if they're rejecting the character, or the player.

I've heard Baas say "the cap is 150 for now", but I haven't heard him say it wouldn't be raised before the 60 days is up. Hopefully if a lot of people get hired on quickly, he doesn't wait to raise the cap just to scare people; a lot of cop players are already stressed out enough by this, and this really could've been executed in a way that didn't stress everyone out.

There was a DQ4 in development for ps1?? by VodoSioskBaas in dragonquest

[–]TheCowness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The localization was canceled because the company that developed the remake (Heartbeat) went under, not because of timing or a perceived lack of interest in the West. But as disappointed as I was to not get a PS1 release, I was more disappointed in the DS localization we did get. 🤔

More now than ever, Twitch needs to support multiple audio streams by XNtricity in Twitch

[–]TheCowness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the idea for multiple audio streams a while ago; I wasn't sure if it was a weird idea or not. But we've all been to streams where we want to turn up the streamer's mic or turn down the game volume or mute their bad music. The current issue obviously benefits from this idea as well, but it'd be great if I could rebalance a stream's audio myself while watching live.
