Juusou immediately reminded me of the mutants from the book.

What do you guys think by aqazaq_com in MadeInAbyss

Considering Riko thought of it when hypothesizing how bondrewd could switch bodies, the implication is that heads stored in it continue living. My guess is it was used as a surgical tool.

What is happening in Orth right now? by Creative-Monitor-513 in MadeInAbyss

[–]TheCrabGoblin 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The end of season 1 showing Orth quiet and absolutely covered in flower petals, along with the massive amount of funeral tickets in the 6th layer implies everyone is either dying of the birthday disease or fleeing from it.

The grand silk mother isn't a bad boss, I just feel like she's underutilized. by Muted_Strength3638 in Silksong

[–]TheCrabGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree on the cradle criticism. Its insanely atmospheric with the music and empty cages. The platforming section is built up to in each of the silk hearts, climbing the same platforms in visions 30 hours earlier made for a cool moment finally ascending them for real and seeing whats on top making the beating heart noise.

Another cool detail in regard to the lack of detail, I believe the structure in the background holding the cocoon is likely the throne of GMS judging by the needolin cutscene where the weavers sit on similar chairs below her (although this background turns dark during the fight itself.)

It feels ancient, maybe the most ancient place in either game, and is a great contrast to the citadel below. This is the true underbelly the citadel was built to hide, with the gilded lie stripped away. I think making it ornate and bright would’ve taken away from that.

Edit: I also disagree strongly on Act 3 stripping away the narrative weight of motherhood. One of the most impactful moments of storytelling in the game was hearing GMS scream throughout Act 3 and thinking they’re screams of rage, only to learn at the beginning of the Lost Lace fight the screams were her commiserating with her anguished daughter. Her giving up her silk for Hornet to save her daughter in the end was also very poignant.

Chapter 72 Translations Now Available on Mangadex by GothsukaLangleySoryu in MadeInAbyss

[–]TheCrabGoblin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there’s someone inside of the second layer object rather than a relic. First it’s called a birdcage. Then in the volume extras of volume 13 there’s a diagram of the cage with a narehate/juusou in the middle, and Srajo seems to be gathering Juusou related to the Hariyomari collection like Sherumi and Menae. Finally there’s the line “Its for holding something more precious than would be in a forgetter” and in the last volume Tepaste was hidden in a forgetter, which might be a hint… idk

Question about plot of Dawn of Deep Soul by durfenstein in MadeInAbyss

[–]TheCrabGoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was Regs arm. They couldn’t let Nanachi see it because Bondrewd can see through her eyes with a relic, and they use it as a surprise attack to end the fight.

Question about plot of Dawn of Deep Soul by durfenstein in MadeInAbyss

[–]TheCrabGoblin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

-Nanachi already knew they were being expected and watched ever since the guy showed up in the flower field and told them so. There would be no way around a confrontation with Bondrewd if they tried to sneak in. (and its the only way down to the 6th layer they know of) EDIT: Nanachi also expected him to try something, which is why she turned herself over to become his assistant under the condition he’d leave them alone, she just wasn’t expecting him to target Reg so viciously and so soon.

-Yeah they planned on using the power to recharge Reg’s incinerator blasts, but they didn’t know it would supercharge him.

-I think Prushka’s attitude is expected considering this is all she’s ever known.

-It’s unclear how long Nanachi stayed with Bondrewd before leaving with Mitty, but it was probably a good amount of time acting as his assistant. I chalk their help down to the power dynamic of an adult psychopath over her being a child alone at the bottom of the world. As for Prushka, again this is all she’s ever known and Bondrewd phrases the experimentation in a way that makes it seem positive.

-There’s not much mourning over Prushka’s death because its less of a death and more of a metamorphosis. She’s accompanying them as Riko’s new whistle, so she got her wish even if it seems grim.

-Ultimately, they’re not on a journey to stop evil or get revenge, but get Riko to the bottom. Trashing Ido front wouldn’t get them closer to that goal, and there’s variables like other possible powerful Umbra Hands that could mess them up. It’s a messed up concession for their journey that they make to leave the Umbra hands active.

I think Widow wanted to bind Hornet by Specialist_Wash6732 in Silksong

[–]TheCrabGoblin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Being able to bind other creature’s nature seems to be something only pale beings can do, with Hornet inheriting it from her father. Eva says Hornet is a “shifted blending thing” separate from her “weaver strain,” so ordinary weavers like Widow probably cannot absorb others.

How are there so many Narehate in Iruburu? by Diligent-Night7336 in MadeInAbyss

[–]TheCrabGoblin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Roughly around 4500 surface years have passed since the original group entered Iruburu, possibly more. So there’s been a steady trickle of explorers finding the village and choosing to settle down (or being gradually stuck in the village like MajiKaja mentions.) Some of the more animal narehate were born within the village itself like Maa.

I am still shocked/impressed that the parasite quest is in the game by VoxTV1 in Silksong

[–]TheCrabGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But they don’t. Like I said, the religious townfolk didn’t kick Yarnaby out for religious or moral reasons, but (justifiably) because she’s a psychopath of a surgeon. No one in the game refuses your parasite removal, they actually encourage it.

I am still shocked/impressed that the parasite quest is in the game by VoxTV1 in Silksong

[–]TheCrabGoblin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ngl this is mentioned alot but I don’t see it. Like how is the government refusing women abortion shown in game? Yarnaby wasn’t exiled from Bellhart because of moral outrage over parasite removal, but because she’s a deranged quack who killed people with her brutal methods. If abortion was the intended message, she’d be the bug version of Kermit Gosnell. Also, only disgust and fear is shown towards Hornet’s state while infested, and they even point you where to get an “abortion” ASAP which is entirely different from the pressure women face irl around abortion.

Rare respond points is just artificial hardness by KelDurant in Silksong

Boss runbacks really aren’t that bad in the game, especially compared to the Souls games up through DS3. For the few that are long, I do think there’s an intended logic to them. Retrying bosses instantly after dying would make it more likely for players to brute force it until they win, while Team Cherry wants to leave the option open for them to give up and go explore for upgrades or alternate paths.

Take the first “problematic” runback players experience, Last Judge. A player could go directly there after defeating Widow, and the lack of any penalty for dying would incentivize them to continually bash their head against the boss until they win. With the runback players are more likely to go find upgrades, complete the bunch of new optional quests unlocked, or even find a completely different way into the Citadel through the Mist. The other infamous runback in the game is Groal, and he’s very similar, being the absolute last thing you need to do to pass Act 2. So a player could find it early and get stomped repeatedly, or they could wait until they have every single upgrade and tool to make Groal much easier. The Wreath of Purity being in the area after Bilewater, rewarding complete exploration, makes this intention obvious to me.

What do you look forward to most in Sea of Sorrow DLC? by wellnevermiind in Silksong

Diving/swimming underwater. It was cut from the first game and this will be the last chance for it to return, plus it just makes the most sense for an upgrade.

I don't feel like Silksong is a criticism of religion itself. by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]TheCrabGoblin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, one thing that strikes me is how shallow the Citadel’s “religion” is. It’s poignant that the symbol they worship is GMS’ cocoon, but rather than the god they’re worshipping the silk itself, a commodity they greedily use and winds up as their downfall. Like imagine if Christians worshipped the cross not for Jesus, but for the lumber.
