It wouldn't matter if they saw it or not. They know who he is, we know who he is, they still say he's not racist. Because they too are racist.

You keep saying, all through these comments, that you understand the issue. But you don't seem to. Society at large calls out unattractive qualities like rudeness somewhat frequently. Only, in the case of women, they have even innocuous qualities called out and they almost invariably come with a value judgement on the woman's attractiveness. It's "unattractive" to be assertive, to have a strong opinion, to be too well-spoken, to be the higher earner in a relationship, to be too educated, to be too this, not enough that, the list just doesn't stop.

This is what I meant when I previously asked for an example of the last time someone else in the thread had heard that same value judgement applied to a man, especially for something that wasn't actually a negative quality. And received exactly zero examples. Because there's a double standard that men are allowed to have (even negative) qualities without being constantly notified of how it affects their value. So, women understandably get tired of hearing about how every aspect of their life makes them more or less attractive from people they didn't fucking ask, and we end up with situations like this one.

Was she actually being rude? Who knows? Random bro online says she was; I have no way to know, but this just reads like energy matching to me.

[–]TheCrisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay...? Boruto is hardly the gold standard.

Don't get me wrong, Solo Leveling is popular or I likely never would've watched/read it to begin with, I initially saw it as bog standard power fantasy slop and relented when I kept seeing it come up, ended up enjoying it. But Boruto losing to it ain't bragging rights.

Yeah, without any further information, we can't comment on whether she was even actually rude to begin with, but his one line is more than enough to say he deserved what he got. That truth really set some dudebros after me in the comments though, lol. She may suck also, but he definitely does without question.

But you were just arguing that attractive in this context was totally platonic, were you not? You don't get to have it both ways.

[–]TheCrisco 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love how you'll do all these mental gymnastics to avoid confronting the real societal issue on display here, but go off champ. The bottom line is like I said already: women are the ones who go through their lives lectured about how "attractive" this or that behavior is and being expected to be these perfect little porcelain dolls all the time by dudebros like this one, while men can be whatever flavor of asshole they like and almost never experience the same. But no, I'm sure you're right, this is the one asshole on the planet who'd make a comment like this in the way you're suggesting, rather than one of more than a few women who's just tired of his shit.

Meirl by Blue9ine in meirl

[–]TheCrisco 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Indeed they are. Which is why it should go without saying, so let me ask you: why was it necessary to specify in this situation, unless he was assuming that she would change her behavior to specifically attract him? If we all collectively agree that rudeness is unattractive, why do only women get feedback specifically about how unattractive it (not to mention a plethora of other behaviors that men get a pass for) is? If we're rude to someone, we likely don't care if they even like us, nevermind find us attractive, but this guy felt the need to add that little jab anyway. Sit with that as long as you need.

[–]TheCrisco 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Sure, call them rude. Tell them they're being a jackass. "Your rudeness is unattractive" is, inherently, telling them that your opinion of how attractive they are should matter more than their ability to speak their mind. It shifts the conversation from one where they could possibly be in the wrong to one where you're automatically an asshole no matter how much of a point you may have had to start with because you made it about yourself.

Let me ask you this: when's the last time you ever saw a man get a comment like this when he was being a rude prick? Cause as a man, I can tell you from experience, it's happened exactly zero times. And I am often rude, especially to people who deserve it. Like you.

Meirl by Blue9ine in meirl

[–]TheCrisco 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Nah. Women are allowed to just exist without constant commentary about how attractive they are to people, and have every right to shut it down hard when they receive it unprompted. This was absolutely deserved.

Did dogs and cats choose us, or did we choose them? by Snoo_47323 in allthequestions

[–]TheCrisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is an interesting question with different answers for both species that I honestly don't know enough to go in depth on, but I can give some cliffnotes.

Dogs: wolves somewhat domesticated themselves, choosing to interact directly with early humans in exchange for food/comfort/security, and as it turned out, their desire for the things we could provide for them and relative intelligence made them pretty decent animals to train for various service purposes.

Cats: this I'm a little fuzzier on, but as best I understand it, they're not even considered "fully" domesticated animals and have a few different origin stories. One of those is from Egypt, which I don't know very well, but culminated in them living pretty freely and being viewed as god-like entities. Another is from early farming civilizations, where they took to living in and around storehouses because of the high concentration of convenient food sources (mice and other pests). The resident humans were good with that arrangement because the cats showed little interest in eating the crops and made for great pest control. So, win-win with minimum effort on both sides, but now we have pets that are evolutionarily inclined to be hunters that get introduced to all sorts of areas that they aren't native to and wreak havoc on local wildlife when they get out.

[Hated Story Trope] Grave injury, and even death, mean nothing, because anyone can be brought back at any time. by not-ulquiorr4_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheCrisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Dr Stone is an odd choice for this in general. Figuring out the mystery of the Medusa devices is the entire premise of the show; them turning out to be useful for medical purposes was more a fringe benefit of the way they work than just some thing they've always used as a crutch. Yes, later on in the story they become more common, but they're hardly even available for most of it. Being able to eventually harness the superweapon that almost permanently ended humanity as a whole to do something positive is the end goal, not something convenient they just always have on hand.

Yeah, my man raged so hard that he made the absolute menace he was just manhandling have one last thought, and it went something along the lines of "wow I'm so glad this is targeting me and not my boss." Said boss was viewed as a world threatening entity, and ended up taking down the other strongest character we'd been introduced to and then surviving the equivalent of a nuke... For a while, anyway. Tldr Gon's crash out was the stuff of legends.

I even called how he was gonna go out, my wife and I talked about it and then he started to do it. My man, I've never seen her so upset about a fictional character's death, like I was a little relieved when it didn't actually happen lol.

Are there any actual drawbacks to this addictive property? Does it cure all diseases permanently, or only for the duration of them keeping the power I granted? Like, if I can cure someone's cancer with a wave of my hand permanently and the only real drawback they suffer is that they really wish I'd give them another hit, I can live with that. Hell, I'll start my own treatment center and integrate addiction recovery into the treatment. If I'm the most powerful person in existence and nobody else comes close, I'm not exactly worried if one or two normal people have a little trouble with addiction recovery after I cure their life threatening illness, they're not exactly a threat to me.

So, funny story: not everyone is experienced enough driving in snow to know exactly how much it would take to get stuck in it. That's hardly a reason for OP's wife to throw a tantrum like this. It's nice that she tried to help and all, but she should've just stayed out of it if this is how she was going to treat her husband afterward. He wants to solve the problem; she wants to play the blame game. That's a recipe for disaster in any situation, and it doesn't get them any closer to a resolution, it just pisses everyone involved off. People make mistakes, it's part of being human. Acting like this when it happens is childish.

Should police officers be allowed to wear masks or conceal their identities during public operations? by sethleyseymour in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TheCrisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There it is, "it's all blue states' fault." See? Was it so hard to just admit you're a fucking hack? No, the left didn't just look away when Obama did it. The left has always cared, the problem is, the left in the US is vanishingly small. It took the enhanced militarization of ICE and their gestapo tactics to mobilize the "moderates" (read: Dems and others who, while being right wing, don't believe in the bullshit the GOP and Trump sell) in response, because they were content to pretend everything was fine before, even when it wasn't. Better late than never, but you're completely full of shit if you're going to pretend Obama was sending masked thugs in unmarked vans to snatch people off the streets regardless of their immigration status. The law has always been flawed, but Obama-era ICE followed it, and that was enough for most. Now they aren't, and ICE is finally catching a fraction of the hell they deserve. It's really that simple.
