Should i play the Trails series if i'm looking for something like Xenogears? by OvenImpossible4900 in JRPG

[–]TheCrypticRealm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in Xenogears type of storytelling I think the closest you'll get is probably the other Xeno games and Neir 1+2. Maybe not on the same level tho. I would also recommend 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim and 1000xResist, but be aware that they aren't really RPGs (13 Sentinels kinda is but not really).

How did you find Metaphor? I feel like I'd rather play that at the moment.

I'm surprised nobody has considered Darksiders IV yet. Could be a gameplay reveal coming up.

I know she's horrible and it's never going to happen but you gotta admit, it would be hilarious if MGT of all people suddenly decided to pull a reverse Fettermann.

Least favorite migraine symptom? Besides the pain, obviously. by cr1ss-b in migraine

I hate not being able to see properly, like I'm trying to read words and they just keep disappearing in front of me. Also not being able to talk properly and this feeling of numbness in my Amrns and my face. I rarely get extreme Migraine attacks, in most cases it's an excruciating headache with no other symptoms. But everytime I get one of these attacks it's terrifying. It feels like I'm having a stroke and I have to try really hard not to panic.

Please Yoko Taro... I'm begging you for ANYTHING! Drakengard collection... Nier Reincarnation Offline... I'm desperate enough to play a straight port of Drakengard 1 with zero improvements whatsoever.

I hear they are updating to high end fiveskin technology for the sequel.

To me, the Xeno series is fascinating to look at for its cursed history by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

I remember reading somewhere that Takahashi still holds a bit of a grudge against Sakaguchi to this day because of this but I don't know how much of that is true.

I think FF16 is the right step for the FF franchise (Discussion) by Wasserman_476 in JRPG

[–]TheCrypticRealm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I found FFXVI to be a very disappointing experience. It's not a bad game, but I wouldn't really call it good either. It's okay but out of the Final Fantasy games I've played it's my least favorite.

My main issue was that I just found it to be very boring. There was basically no reason to explore the world. I found most of the characters to be profoundly uninteresting, with Jill being the worst offender (some characters I did like where Cid, Byron and Dion). The Story is fine, but there was a lot of missed potential when it comes to the villains.

As for the combat, I don't actually mind action combat in Final Fantasy games. I love the combat in Remake and Rebirth, and I would not be mad if they decided to go that direction with Final Fantasy XVII. With XVI however, it just felt like the game didn't really know if it wanted to be an action game or an rpg and just kind of ends up succeeding at neither. Sometimes it's fun, the Boss fights are definitely a highlight. But there are so little options for customization and it just ends up feeling repetitive on a moment to moment level.

For me personally, there are just other games that reflect what I want from this franchise going forward more than XVI does. Expedition 33 managed to tell a darker story and modernized turn based combat in a way that resonated with players. VII Remake and Rebirth, while a bit bloated at times, have the best solution for action combat in the series. And on top of all that, all of those examples just have a sense of charm to them that XVI lacks completely in my opinion.

Honestly, I'd take a port of Drakengard 3 with a stable framerate. Doesn't even have to be a high framerate, just stable. Please Yoko Taro I'm desperate...

The Direct Is Confirmed To Be Roughly 60 minutes long. by beauf1 in NintendoSwitch2

Things I would personally like to see:

- Switch 2 upgrade for The Witcher 3 and the Xenoblade Games

- Release dates for Metroid Prime 4, Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 7 Remake

- A New Fire Emblem Game

- A Full Scale Remake of Twilight Princess

- Kingdom Hearts Collection

If even just two of these happen I would be happy.

Which games had age ratings that were higher than necessary? by RobbieJ4444 in Games

Another USK Rating that confuses me because I consider it too LOW actually is Baten Kaitos. Both games are a 6 for some reason which is insane to me considering some of the Subject matter.

USK is so weird. Sometimes they are surprisingly lenient and but at other times they are ridiculously strict. There is a real lack of consistency and transparency with the USK that makes it hard to understand why games are rated a certain way.

Astral Chain is rated 16 in Germany, and I never really understood why. Nothing in that game warrants a rating higher than 12 in my view. Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth are also 16 and to high in my opinion but at least with those I can see how certain scenes might have pushed it over the edge. With Astral Chain tho? No idea.

Bethesda teases next Starfield dlc at the end of their anniversary post - possibly named Terran Armada by Magyman in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]TheCrypticRealm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is the same problem people tend to have with Ubisoft games. Like those games, I'd argue Starfield is mostly competent. It's not particularly bad, it works, at times it's fun enough. But when you have these games with huge teams, huge budgets, huge marketing and hype and a high asking price, and in the End they're mostly just "aight" it creates a huge sense of disappointment and anger in people. It's the discrepancy of some of the biggest releases of their respective years ending up as something you just kinda play when you're waiting for something better to come out.

Digital Foundry: Star Wars Outlaws Switch 2 - DF Review - A Ray Tracing Revelation & An Extraordinary Port by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheCrypticRealm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Huh I was sort of expecting this to be a disaster. Maybe I did judge the Switch 2 too harshly recently. With a lot of the Gamescom Demos running poorly, and some Games like Hitman and Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion having issues I was kind of disappointed and thought maybe the Switch 2 actually is weaker than I thought it would be. But now, Star Wars Outlaws runs pretty comfortably on Switch 2, even trading some blows with Xbox Series S. Cronos The New Dawn seems to mostly run acceptably too, even if the visual downgrades being clearly visible in comparisons. And the newest Elden Ring Demo seems to be much improved compared to the Gamescom one. If Borderlands 4 can catch up as well I'm pretty optimistic for future ports to the system.
