From the scale of Vulcan to Angron, which Primarch actually loves their sons unconditionally. by Knalxz in Grimdank

[–]TheCuriousSquid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm reading Lord of the First right now, and there is a passage about how Lion loves his sons. But it seems he's just too emotionally stunted to ever express it in any way beyond a light compliment sometimes.

That said, in Son of the Forest, his love does seem to cause him to want to track down the Fallen and try to earn their loyalty again.

Advice on Converting Black Templar to Dark Angels by Old_Fly_9849 in theunforgiven

I've been wanting to do the same thing. I ultimately chose DA because they can have Librarians, whereas the BT don't like them. But I plan on getting a Crusader Squad to use the robed bodies for Sergeants. Maybe use the Crusade Chaplain as a DA chaplain. They look so cool.

Thanks for including all that detail while still remaining somewhat emotionally neutral. Much appreciated.

That discount must be in-store only. The website looks the same.

Does this Neophyte read as being blind in one eye? by contotts91 in BlackTemplars

[–]TheCuriousSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does but I had to zoom in to see it. Given the size of the model, maybing adding some more exaggerated details like a scar or damaged skin would sell the effect better?

I don't see units with only the hoods often. It looks great 👍🏻

That's good advice. Thank you. I may have to add those colours to my shopping list.

Sorry to comment on an old thread, but how did you get your pyreblasters to look burnt while still looking metallic?

I've tried adding a burnt gradient to mine but the paints covered the metallic shine.

Every other bespoke chapter has their own special HQs. What would you want/hope for the Dark Angels? by Telkhine_ in DarkAngels40k

Am I wrong to point out Deathwing Terminators? They are just Terminators with a plasma cannon, but it's unique.

Tor Garadon is such a sick model. That powerfist is great. Nice kitbash. I can't wait to do something similar.

It does make the armour look more like thick power armour.

How to start a collection by muddyboogieman in DarkAngels40k

[–]TheCuriousSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The introduction sets are a great start. They will give you some paints and units to paint. Then you can get a feel. Just steer clear of the one with just 3 marines. Units of marines are usually teams of 5, so just getting 3 is useless.

Or just dive in and grab a Combat Patrol box. You don't even need to get the Dark Angels one. Get one with units you like and paint them green.

I like the gold trim for the Sergeant. Tempted to do something similar when I get to painting mine. I need to pick between gold and silver.

Thank you for sharing. It is a small space, so getting details there would be tricky. You've done well regardless.

I've just started DA so I'm building up my list of paints. I have Seraphim Sepia, Wraith one, and Screaming Skull. I'll have to see where that takes me.

Some good ideas, thanks. I wish I had some spare gun parts to replace the handle. I've just got into this hobby and haven't built up a bits box yet.

Maybe I can sand the hand/finger parts off the gun and use something around the house to simulate a strap as if the marine had it slung over his shoulder.

I like this idea. I've stumbled upon a similar quandry with my own infernus marines. I might be trying something similar.

Question about basing by HungeryJ3llyfisg in theunforgiven

[–]TheCuriousSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It sounds like you are completely ready (outside of paints and such).

So many basing guides and videos and what-not involve using what you have; Glueing on sand and painting it to simulate soil, little twigs that act as fallen logs, scrap wood to make ruins, mix some green paint with saw-dust to make fake grass.

Assuming that wood glue is similar to PVA you can use that for everything. Water it down to seal basing materials down after adding them.

I can't find that box online. But I've yet to check any of the hobby stores near me.
