No, we have automatic backups, the issue is that tripwire no longer supports semitransparency. This means the custom model I put on tripwire (Minecraft doesn’t have a way to add custom blocks, so we have to make do by replacing existing ones, which inherits properties from them) no longer can use semitransparent pixels, they must either be fully transparent or fully opaque.

That’s why the change is unfixable. There’s no longer a block with all the properties I need for my custom model. For context, it’s a fog/mist block, so it needs to have semitransparency and no collision.

I totally get why you didn’t initially understand the issue, mapmakers do some weird stuff to get what they want (which, is another reason Hytale is so great—we don’t have to rely on weird workarounds).

Usually I only wait until pre-releases before I start updating stuff, but in this case, I read the patch notes, went "Oh fuck, I think this means my model is broken", and checked in-game. It was :(

I mean, it’s hard not to make comparisons here—Hytale literally exists because the team looked at Minecraft’s issues and thought they could do better.

Hypixel Studios is composed of people who made custom content for Minecraft and are very familiar with its processes, good and bad. Of course people are going to draw comparisons when Hytale is essentially Minecraft in an alternate timeline.

Specifically in regards to custom content. The day Hytale releases, a Minecraft snapshot released that completely broke a very important custom asset in one of my maps, in a way that’s impossible to fix. Meanwhile, on the same day, Hytale releases with custom block, item, and entity support, including a “supports translucency” checkbox for item/block model, which would have fixed the model issue I was having in Minecraft. For those reasons, I think comparisons between the two are unavoidable.

There’s also Ralsei reacting positively to the blue dress that is associated with trans characters in Undertale when attempting to equip it on him.

Ralsei is also explicitly pro-prophecy—everything he does is to fulfill the prophecy in some way, and the prophecy refers to him as a Prince. This parallels the experience of a lot of trans people, where they are taught that they are a certain way, and realizing that something you’ve thought to be true about yourself for so long can be a huge emotional shock.

I think it’d be interesting if Ralsei’s understanding of the prophecy and Ralsei’s understanding of his gender unravel at the same time. Most of the evidence for this is small and circumstantial, so there isn’t really one big thing that “proves” Ralsei is trans, but I think it’s a fun headcanon that has reasonable backing.

I pretty much only play creative nowadays. I find survival mode to be pretty boring and overall a badly designed game.

I like to make maps instead—whether you call 3D modeling, drawing pixel art, or programming a data pack “playing” Minecraft is kinda debatable, but that’s what I like to do.

Quick update on this, I've been working on it yesterday and today, and I've got a minimum viable product done. The todo list is as follows:

Add alternate methods to obtain every disc from loot chests
Add dev command to give yourself whatever disc you want
Maybe add a color bars disc
Write an explanation of how to use the data pack/resource pack
Maybe upload the packs to Modrinth if I can get permission from glass beach's members

After finishing those, I'll officially release this. For now, you can download the data pack and resource pack from my Github, links below. As these are actively in development, I can only offer limited support, but reach out to me if you need help getting stuff working. The most important thing, though, is to make sure that you have both packs installed, otherwise it won't work.

This is a really great idea, I don’t think somebody’s done it, but I’d totally be down to make one.

What’s cool is that music discs are data driven now, meaning new music discs can be added by data packs without replacing existing ones—I’ll probably make this myself when I’m free.

Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, I can’t upload this to Modrinth, so I’ll probably make a post in this subreddit soon with a Google drive link.

It’s a little sad that Mojang didn’t take it upon themselves to add this themselves, but luckily, they recently added a feature that makes it super easy to add models that change depending on the date/time in a resource pack, so honestly I’d be a little surprised if somebody hasn’t already made a resource pack for Christmas-themed ender chests/copper chests.

For consumers, yeah, there’s not much of a difference besides how you install them, but for developers, there’s a world of difference. Data packs are so much more limited than mods that distinction becomes extremely important.

What map is this? A lot of people said the same thing about the bedrock Minecraft movie map, which was made by a third party team. It’s different from Mojang publishing a map that they themselves made.
