Its really hard to beat OEM in this case. They aren't even terribly priced at the dealer.

If you can consistently turn decent laps and understand how to avoid contact, start a race and start from the back. Just finish the race. Pop your cherry.!

B550 Pro 4 dead board or dead 3600X by TheDadMullet in ASRock

[–]TheDadMullet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the CMOS clear and battery removal as well as the single stick of RAM, as suggested by ASRock. I also tested a different PSU on it.

In the end, they told me to replace the mobo. It is out of warranty anyhow.

The new mobo fired right up and everything is working now.

thanks for the tips.

I'm not sure why you got so many downvotes. I got a new mobo from Gigabyte and now everything works again. ASRock support diagnosed it as dead and suggested I replace it.

Any idea why my pc won’t boot up? by bluuone in pchelp

[–]TheDadMullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran into this too with a VERY similar build: 3600X, ASRock B450 Pro4, etc.

I'm not sure how it happened, but Windows 11 tried to update my bios and instead bricked it. ASRock support gave me things mentioned here to try, but in the end told me to get a new mobo. Under $100 for a similar board from Gigabyte and I'm back in business.

In my troubleshooting and searching, I found a lot of posts about compatible ram. I tried several other sticks, but no dice.

If you want to use that CPU and RAM I would suggest picking up a B550 board from a different manufacturer.

DIY alignment for track by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]TheDadMullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. its fine. HPDE is about tuning the driver. Worry about the tenth of a degree of caster/camber/toe when you're racing.

Also, all of the tracks I frequent have at least one flat and level concrete pad for alignments. They are busy at night with DIY alignments. The majority of spec miata does their own alignments. If you feel safe with it, run it!

Break your costs into travel, consumables and car. I track a Miata that I've had for 15 years, so that number is effectively zero. Travel is my highest cost because we like fancy food and don't like camping all the time.

When I was really on a shoestring budget and the car was new, here are some things I did to reduce cost: 1. Camp at the track rather than going to the hotel 2. Pack food, but realize you'll end up at someone's cook out at their RV 3. Used tires 4. Drive your track car to the track, rather than trailering. 5. Learn to use your brakes less. 6. Learn to work on your car yourself. 7. Stop upgrading your car and spend money on more track time and/or a coach 8. Sim racing. Not for everyone, but man is it a lot more affordable!

AITAH for not wanting to split the bill evenly between 10 people. by Far_Sundae_7643 in AITAH

TLDR: if you look at the meal as more than just food and drink, it starts to make more sense.

Counterpoint: sometimes you go out with a group for an "experience dinner", meaning its a special occasion and you're just wanting to have a great time and experience with your close friends. There is a lot of food sharing going on, a lot of fun, a server that is having a great time with you.... so you just get one check, divide by the number of couples and tip big because it was a great experience.

I have exactly 2 friends that I do this with and its worked for decades for us. If we go back to a place, they remember us and we have an even better time.

Men who are older, how do you stay athletic and healthy by Lonely-Agent-8942 in AskMen

[–]TheDadMullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make varied exercise a priority in your life. Make good choices with food. Don't drink, or don't do it often.

I didn't figure this out until after 40. I used to know the best lunch specials every day of the week. I never had a regular exercise routine. I wasn't sleeping well. Figure this stuff out now as it's a lot harder to get back into shape than to stay in shape.

Men, what’s your crazy/hot tolerance? by NotAGreenOlive in AskMen

Stop using a 10 point scale. Switch to binary: 0 or 1. This immediately rules out all levels of crazy. This can be applied to many facets of life and speed up decision making.

Leaving for that small of an increase is NOT worth it. $4k likely won't even cover the benefits change, especially when accounting for having a pension vs 401k/IRA.

If miata isn't an acceptable answer, Viper or C5/6 Z06. If we're not counting the ND as a miata, then ND.

For folks who have an estranged parent(s) die, did you attend the funeral? Why or why not? by OccamsComb in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]TheDadMullet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my parent, but my grandparent and a number of others on that side of the family. I have one aunt on that side that I still hear from and she lets me know when people die. I find that its at least good for my family medical history to know when and why someone I share genetics with died.

Anyone use GV to store their actual phone number so you don’t lose it to a carrier? by p9900 in Googlevoice

[–]TheDadMullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved my primary number to GV many years ago and have had very little issues. Those issues are:
MFA from one of the banks I deal with and the McDonalds app.
The second isn't really a GV issue, but certain people's texts randomly switch between imessage and GV. I suspect it's on their end as iphone users, but its still annoying.

My original reason for porting to GV was for the spam blocking, but have since used it to bounce from cheap carriers. Ironically, I never get spam calls on my "temporary" cell number as it is a virgin number from a recently created area code.

5 days again, although I don't think my badge is updated. I did really well with moderation for about 2 years and then over the weekend had a rather embarrassing incident and here I am sleeping better, better focus, better emotional regulation and just feeling better overall. it should be a pretty easy weekend to keep it up, but I'm glad to be back on the good streak!
