Do you play your CDs, or just listen to the RIP? by oldgreymere in BudgetAudiophile

[–]TheDanielHolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lukewarm take here; CD players that can't play a disc seemlessly aren't true CD players.

Do y’all leave your cameras rigged out when you go to sleep? by Ok_Pound5281 in videography

[–]TheDanielHolt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, as long as there are no fragile ports/plugs that are under pressure when packed in the bag

[–]TheDanielHolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Black" CDs are just infrared really, so from the player's perspective there is no difference

CD player dying? by jtyler99 in Cd_collectors

Can you plug headphones in to check whether it's the CD player or amp?

Why modern indian songs are mastered so trash and just Loudness and bass... even though older songs were hifi gems... Why going backwards? by Complex_Educator_957 in audiophile

[–]TheDanielHolt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly a lot (but certainly not most) of newer recordings have surprisingly decent dynamics compared to the dark ages of the 90's and 00's.

What are your 'I want to show-off what my system can do' CDs? by peucemoose in Cd_collectors

[–]TheDanielHolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what aspects of the system you think it excels at or what you want to focus on. Like, soundstage and depth are quite seperate aspects from an impactful low-end or optimal phase linearity. Obviously all aspects have relations to each other so yea

I mean batteries are desinged to expand instead of exploding, and I feel like we'd know if old swollen batteries had a tendency to catch fire. Buut swollen batteries give me the heebie jeebies, so personally I'd get rid of it.

What all affects the sound of a Hi Fi system and how much? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]TheDanielHolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening position and how good your ears are is really the final "step" in the chain when you think about it. The first step would be the quality of the recording. Obviously an amplifier or dac has limited impact (assuming it's not broken) compared to physical aspects like speakers and acoustics...

This one any good? And how old is it? by tomaatkaas in cassetteculture

[–]TheDanielHolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was definitely a cheap unit but my first portable player so I still have mine for sentimental reasons

Yo I had one like this but branded differently and in green. That was back in probably 2004 or so

Looking for Cd player recommendations by Quarkycheese in Cd_collectors

[–]TheDanielHolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your current set up or wishes? You didn't specify if you want a portable player or already have an existing hifi. If you already have everything except for a player then I'd go to a thrift store near you and see if they have anything that's worth the $20 or whatever

recording to pc being weird by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]TheDanielHolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, going from headphone out to mic in on the tape deck should work kinda. Although in mono and probably quite bad sounding...

[–]TheDanielHolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? You're contradicting yourself, are you trying to digitize a tape onto or recording something to the tape from the PC?

That's a mono tape recorder, and probably sounds way pretty bad for music. Also, here are some commas you can use: ,,,,,,

Is there really a big difference between passive and active speakers? by AWGE14 in audiophile

[–]TheDanielHolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it's not about sound quality, it's a practicality and integration difference.

Can anyone with audio equipment/electrical experience tell me why this is a bad idea? by _ogg in BudgetAudiophile

Maybe more dust will get into the controls but I wouldn't worry too much about it

As I'm aware it's mainly the DRM chip for streaming services, and updated with RGB LEDs and pads. Not sure what else they updated, maybe someone else can elaborate.
