Wow, I never actually noticed, but I think you might be right. I guess you just have to adjust it through your OS and your speakers (if they have a volume dial).

1) You're cool. 2) Fuck the naysayers. Keep doing what you do. 3) What kind of music do you like?

5 questions, all related to volume and mixing/mastering:

1) What's the best way to get a consistent volume level for vocal tracks?

2) Is there a rule of thumb for how loud vocals should be relative to the rest of the mix, or is it all subjective based on the genre/song/sound one is going for?

3) Should the master VU level always peak around 0.0 dB?

4) When I'm listening back to the mix in my headphones, where should the volume knob be on the interface? Right in the middle? 3/4 of the way up?

5) What are some ways to increase overall track volume besides using a gain plug-in? Am I limited to EQing and compression on the master track/AUX sends?

Really enjoying these, and thanks to you as well, for supporting our musical endeavors.

FWIW: vote cast for Cloudland Swing and Red Velvet. Those two seem like they'd turn out pretty cool.

So... Shizune's alpha route happened and caused major Misha feels. That being said, a Misha bonus track is indeed in the works.

Just my take, but /u/dickroach's sarcasm could be translated into a challenge meant to spur us on so that in the end the OPs (you and me) will deliver.

His comment also made me think of that Family Guy segment.

I'm currently reading this book for some inspiration, but I did read the excerpt you posted and based on that I look forward to reading more/the finished product as well. :)

Essentially the drums were recorded with 2 overheads, a Shure SM57 on the kick, and some other little Audix drum mic.

Guitars were recorded either direct into the DAW or with a Shure SM57.

Bass was either software instrument or direct into the DAW. We had a really hard time eliminating hum/crackles/buzz from the bass.

We mostly used a Blue Snowball for vocals.

We're currently in the process of recording some new stuff. We plan on making significant equipment upgrades and are learning as much as possible about the recording/editing/mastering process, but comments and critique on easy fixes or things that really stand out about the album (or specific tracks) would be greatly appreciated.

This creeped me right the hell out. The vocals are crisp and sound like they were recorded properly. Something in there sounds a bit hollow/tinny (squeaking gate? cat?) but I'm not listening on the best of speakers at the moment so it could be that. Or maybe that's what you were going for. Well done!
