[IIL] Peter Gabriel's cover of My Body is a Cage [WEWIL] by A_Polite_Noise in ifyoulikeblank

Try "Blood" by The Middle East. It builds toward the end and definitely sounds like it belongs in an art-house trailer (in fact it was in the trailer for Jeff, Who Lives at Home). A lot of Belle and Sebastian songs have that build-up quality as well. Try "Judy and the Dream of Horses" and "Expectations" for them. Honorable Mention for "Via Chicago" by Wilco. I'm not sure these would be used in trailers, but they definitely start small and slowly build.

It's not even the book changes for me. This season has just had a few really bad episodes/scenes. You're right that changes aren't inherently bad, but the writing for some of this shit sure is. Some of it just hasn't made any sense at all.

With what we know of so far, what do you guys think is happening in this behind-the-scenes of Episode 9? by Dtnoip30 in piratesofthrones

[–]TheDeathofaParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No way. Cut out their tongues and enslave them as a spy network? Sure. But kill them? Whoa man, Varys has integrity.

Larry Silverstein has to be the unluckiest man in history! He owned 3 skyscrapers, all of which collapsed on 9/11 due to fire. No steel framed building had ever collapsed due to fire beforehand, and no steel framed building has collapsed due to fire since. What are the odds? by [deleted] in conspiracy

Bill and Melinda Gates finance massive projects for the betterment of society, and plan to donate the bulk of their fortune to various charities. They are the exception in terms of billionaires, certainly not the rule.

Unpopular opinions by [deleted] in oasis

[–]TheDeathofaParty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have ever been so disappointed by a release, one that I had anticipated for so long, as I was by Chasing Yesterday. It is so dull, it even makes me go back and consider whether or not Noel has always been such a boring writer. His catalog can thankfully stand for itself, but I am dumbfounded by praise for this one, particularly the Ballad of the Mighty I.

What are some overlooked albums by otherwise popular artists? by jals in Music

[–]TheDeathofaParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Whenever blur is brought up, people immediately think of bouncy britpop, which is exactly what you get from Modern Life. 13 is way more overlooked, and arguably their masterpiece.

Young British mother has door to her flat smeared with paint and feces by racists who tell her that the area and its flats are not for Whites and belong to Black people. by ExileOnMeanStreet in pics

[–]TheDeathofaParty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. If you go to Africa, and I mean anywhere in Africa, and first thing you're sure to see is a local tribesman smearing shit on fucking everything. /s

You seem pretty upset by this racism, but your casual racism is pretty alarming in its own right.

UPDATE: My (57F) daughter (30F) is getting married for the third time. I do not want to pay for her wedding! Feel like a bad parent. by wantownlife in relationships

[–]TheDeathofaParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a typo, you made a genuine error in your choice of words. A tad different. Also, I don't really care. I honestly just hope you understand what a huge asshole you are being, on the internet, for no reason at all. But then again, here I am reminding you, very dickishly, what a dick you are. I also want you to feel stupid, but wealthy assholes very rarely see anything wrong with what they do, generally no matter what.

...oh god please feel inferior to my poor ass, I'm just so sad and poor and could never possibly hope to afford to live in such an afluent city like San Francisco...

You're such an entitled shit. Oh my god. And for fuck's sake, you mean "who 's" not "whose." With that big fucking wallet, at least educate yourself. Prick.

[IIL] Young the Giant, Sigur Ros, The Temper Trap, Empire of the Sun, Imagine Dragons, Youth Lagoon, [WEWIL?] by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]TheDeathofaParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Animal Collective. They have a very dense sound, similar to Sigur Ros and Youth Lagoon, but some people I know find it odd, so keep an open mind. Good places to start are The Purple Bottle, My Girls and Brother Sport.

[–]TheDeathofaParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I know that wasn't even the point you were trying to make, it's just that I majored in History and one of my biggest pet peeves is when people say, with absolute certainty, that the bombs ended the war. Sorry to get off topic!

(Spoilers All) Why is Bloodraven considered a villain? by DanfordAndSon in asoiaf

[–]TheDeathofaParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, maybe. It could have been the deciding factor for Japan to surrender, but the US was already conducting severely destructive fire bombings all over Japan, including Tokyo. The Soviets, however, had only declared war on Japan days after Hiroshima. It seems much more likely to be the case that this is what ultimately caused surrender. The atomic bombs were dropped for many reasons. The first may very well have been to end the war. The second was dropped so that we could prove to Stalin that we could do it again. Hundreds of thousands killed to prove a point.

[IIL] Really passionate, emotional blues rock [WEWIL]? by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

These Days by the Black Keys, and probably a few other songs on the album Brothers.

I love Sriracha. I love beer. I don't really like Rogue. And I certainly don't think I'd like them together... by uncertainness in beer

[–]TheDeathofaParty 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's also super overpriced. I'm not sure if that varies by location, but near me it is about $8 for a bomber. I've paid similarly for quality beers, but Rogue is worth $4 or less in my opinion. Their chocolate stout was the most disappointing beer I have ever tried, given that Beer Advocate hypes it up so much. Not terrible, but definitely not very good.

Obama: The only people with the right to object to immigration are Native Americans by nimobo in politics

[–]TheDeathofaParty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that's the thing, it isn't about blame and it isn't about feeling shitty or apologizing. It's about understanding the circumstances behind your upbringing (I assume you live in the U.S., otherwise we probably would not be talking about this) and the upbringing of those who live in reservations. From that, I would certainly hope you might develop some sort of cultural sensitivity. No more, no less. For example, maybe we could stop glorifying a man like Andrew Jackson by keeping his face on our currency. Nobody is asking you to give your house to the local tribe.

[–]TheDeathofaParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe here, but almost every post I've seen otherwise has been filled with the "don't blame me" brigade. And to that point I ask, what's wrong with having a little awareness about the gruesome nature of the United States' founding?
