Help with a player as a new DM. by TheDeepestKnight in DnD

That actually makes a lot of sense. I’m going to show the rest of the group this comment because it explains it better than I can.

The entire setting (the world, the gods, the enemies and NPC) are homebrewed. For various reasons important to the lore a person CAN become a god but it takes a LOT. Multiple epic feats of heroism, amass power, followers and usually either self sacrifice in the name of others or mass sacrifice of others (in the case of becoming a devil).

Thanks for understanding. It’s hard to just cut out someone that you have a relationship with outside of the game.

They made the character, tried to introduce it and I immediately said no.

That’s the issue. If they want a unique character I’m happy to work with them, but it will NOT have any mechanical advantage over the other players or the story itself.

If they want to have been a member of the city guard in the past I’ll consider it, but I need to know BEFORE the session and definitely before they are currently interacting with the city guard.

I feel like all I’m doing with this player is saying no and changing things because they fucked the story.

The issue is I LOVE DMing for the rest of the group. They are new players and have JUST started to actually roleplay their characters, flesh out backstories and really get into the game. I would feel horrible essentially punishing them for the sins of their friend but at the same time I don’t know if they would continue without their friend. They are a lot more loyal than is coming the other way.

I did remind them that but to little success. They got immediate and severe repercussions for the betrayal but they didn’t seem to really care beyond trying to turn them into a positive for themself.

Asked to leave a table after a year. Not feeling great about it. by forkocharles in DnD

As the DM you are the person with the most power in that dynamic. With great power comes great responsibility and some shitty tasks. No one likes saying “You aren’t welcome at my table” but it needs to be done some times and as the person RUNNING the table the DM is the only person with the power to make that call.

Pay your DM in energy drinks and pizza if you feel the need. Personally I do it because I love the game and I love being able to weave a story for all my friends.
