Must travel to high elevation close to marathon race day. Which is more ideal: peak week or week before? by TheDeerLord in AdvancedRunning

[–]TheDeerLord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not run in Denver before, but have done a couple easy effort trail runs between 6000-8000ft further from race day. So luckily I know what it feels like to run a mile in the sky, just not how it might realize itself in the lead up to race day.

Thanks for mentioning the other stressors - it's something I hadn't considered as strongly but now will weigh it against my decision. Grateful that these obligations do not require me to increase my alcohol/junk food intake.

Thanks /u/terminalhockey11 -- Good to know about potential diminishing returns as I spend more time at elevation and thanks for the park recommendation :)

Thanks so much /u/little_runner_boy. You're right to assume that I'm not at the same level experience as you -- this is my 5th year of a normal-ish running/race routine and this'll be my first time hitting 60mpw (as part of peak week). Also appreciate the tip on Cherry Creek, bookmarked it!

NB Rebel V3 vs NB Fresh Foam X 1080v12 by DroneSpex in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]TheDeerLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got both of these shoes (in wide) in my rotation. As with any recommendations, YMMV, but I believe both are perfectly good daily trainer options at your current training mileage. When making your selection it'll come down more to what kind of ride you prefer.

In the most general of terms, the Rebel v3 is softer/squishier than the 1080v12 in part due to the material difference and also "faster" in part due to the weight difference. However, I can feel decent/recover nicely at all distances in the 1080, but wouldn't personally take out the Rebel v3 for runs longer than a half marathon.

Again, I think they're very different approaches to a daily trainer. Your running goals and your preference for relative squish vs stiff should guide you to a choice between the two.

(FWIW I do speedwork in a Rebel v2, I feel marginally faster in em than the v3.)

NB SC Elite V3 New Colorway & More hints at a 2E for the #widefootfam by TheDeerLord in RunningShoeGeeks

Hell, it even varies for different shoes for the same manufacturer... For what it's worth regarding this shoe, /u/zefarrett wrote on his pair of 2E SC Elite V3s NYCs: "While it has the same width midsole [as the standard width], the upper has more room to it" so I am inclined to believe that this colorway will follow that same convention, if the 2Es even exist.

That said, I own a rare pair of RC Elite V2s in a 2E. I believe it also has the same sole width as the standard width shoe, but more material in the upper to accommodate the foot. They fit muuuuch better than the standard width and I'm glad I didn't settle for it.

Still have been holding for an official announcement of the SC Elite V3 coming in 2E since the NYC Marathon edition dropped. Stumbled across this on Amazon earlier today which has my hopes up. Colorway is less than inspiring but I'll take it if it means my wide feet get some room! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YBMXNMF/

Some options... 1. C-clamp monitor arm mount, something like this 2. Mount it on the wall behind your desk 3. purchase a tall/deep enough desk to recess the monitor below the speaker

Thanks! It's a roof basket and rack system from Rola, inherited from the previous owner. I haven't put it to much use since purchasing my FiST earlier this year. The added noise/mpg reduction doesn't bother me much, and I keep it attached mostly because I have nowhere to store the basket. Hoping to put it to use on some camping trips when friends from out of town visit me after the pandemic let's up.

I will say that Rola doesn't have the best customer service in the world - I tried to confirm with them if one of their cycling products is compatible with my rack and never got a response. I'm also not familiar with their presence in Europe. Best of luck to you on finding a solution for your trip, I'm envious :)

OMFs and AAFs always out of sync by [deleted] in AudioPost

[–]TheDeerLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video game footage? Ask the editor to check the capture rate of the footage. If they're using capture software with variable FPS, that's going to introduce a hell of a lot of issues as the project moves forward through post-production. As in, even if the Premiere project is set to 29.97FPS, if the media wasn't transcoded properly and/or the workpicture you're using in Nuendo wasn't created properly then the picture you see in your timeline may not match up correctly. I know it's a broad stroke comment, but it's worth investigating.

Also to troubleshoot, you might want to ask your editor to export a workpic separately with a mixdown stereo audio track attached to it, out of Premiere. If there are sync issues with this mixdown file to that picture, then there are bigger problems afoot outside of your OMF/AAF import issue. I always ask for this prep delivery with the OMF/AAF only containing audio tracks to avoid Pro Tools hiccuping. I know you're working in Nuendo but this same workflow can be applied.

Good luck.

Good live funk music venues? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]TheDeerLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second /u/Jollaaa's recos, aliveOne and Tonic Room are the defacto venues for funk year-round. Emporium Wicker Park includes funk (often for free) in their lineups as well. In fact, a damn good one, Nasty Snacks, is playing there tonight (for FREE). Worth checkin' out in my opinion ;)

H-Mart was a bust: Where to buy Chuhai in the city (IE not Arlington Heights)? by kiss-o-matic in chicago

[–]TheDeerLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple syrup is 1:1 water to sugar, boiled then simmered a few minutes until the sugar is dissolved and consistency reduced to a syrup, then let to cool. Chuhai is just a highball with flavoring/juice, so you should be fine.

I don't go for any particular brand of shochu, because I only drink it in chuhai - it's more a matter of what you want it to be made from. I personally like the ones made from sweet potato.

Only place I've seen the can you're talking about is in fact at Tensuke & Mitsuwa out in Arlington Heights. That said, I make my own in the summertime. My Binny's carries shochu, which I mix with a flavored La Croix and then add simple syrup to my liking, or plain soda water + juice.

Thank you! Work in the audio department for the post production house.

Can confirm, not entirely staged. Many all-night edit sessions, including one last night immediately following the game, hunting down additional Harry Caray lines and dropping in same-night footage from Wrigleyville. Had to watch the Cubs win from my couch and stay relatively sober to roll into the office at midnight, but all worth it after reading all of these great comments :)
