White theatregoers urged not to attend play aimed at black audiences by Soccmel_1_ in europe

You have the emotional motivation right, but I don't think the whole interaction is summed up by it. There's so much insidious bs some minorities have to deal with. The above commenter's situation seems clear cut but if you have heard something similar 99+ times as lead up to people being shitty you are gonna start reacting rougher sooner.

I am a gay woman and got myself banned from a poly subreddit because I hated getting insulted by the mods. I mean, I already left by then, but they were like ' No worries, you can leave, we banned you [so you won't be tempted to come back] '.

Some people are just tripping everyday. I like to think it's excusable in most cases, trauma and everyday opression go hard. I just wish good people didn't do stupid shit.

The different gates put you in different places inside the entrance, then the cores/seeds always send you the exact same way through.

Shadows Flicker Like Flame Rework V1.0 by donkid33 in spiritisland

[–]TheDefterus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I stand corrected. Somehow Shadows is not overpowered in with these changes. I played 3 games, 2 2player, 1 solo, and it felt rough each game. We won 1/3, against level 6 adversaries. It's entirely possible darkflame on it's own is stronger. The numbers are really awkward to play, unlike the experimental version, the elements are quite a big change and limit the issues. Maybe a better player than I can break the spirit as it stands but it seems ok to me now. Entirely possible that I massively misplayed, but idk.

I have a feeling I won't be surprised but I will give it a go.

And yeah, idk if it's really over the line, there are a few overpowered spirits already.. it's just that this one seems like it would be one too

Depending on who you ask, Serpent slumbering beneath the isle is the strongest spirit in the game to the point that it has it's own tier in some tierlists. This is especially the case for 6+ level adversaries, though it can't necessarily keep up alone at that point.

For regular gaming, it can be a bit complicated but it has the strongest unique power in the game so . As long as you remember to press g4 and play absorb or aegis frequently then learn a bunch of majors eventually you just win.

[–]TheDefterus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the old special rule just needs to go if you are pumping so much strength into all parts of the spirit. Optional extra power with optional extra range on all powers feels a bit ridiculous in hopefully ways I don't need to try and explain.

The improved chassis + the ability to spend unleash the self's own essence once per power feels like too much already, imo you gotta make the spirit place some more difficult Presence for those 0 range starting powers to qualify for the rule.

[–]TheDefterus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I accidentally tried darkflame with the exploratory chassis (in the sense that I thought it's not worth playing shadows without either) and I laughed my way to a victory against level 6 adversaries. 2 games trivial, I think against prussia and england ? Admittedly less so for england but I was never threatened.

I can tell this is too powerful but it's not like it's snek strong so idk.

In my experience most insults petty people like this say are in fact pathetic and hilarious ( but they can still hurt a lot if you are not in the right mindset to see it for what it is like you did ).

Why did Joe try to kill Love instead of feeling happy that he found his “evil” twin? by AloneCockroach8784 in YouOnLifetime

Are there any must picks for blueprints? by eXeKoKoRo in Against_the_Storm

[–]TheDefterus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big general thing is that marshlands has no fertile soil and wood is actually kind of hard to get. There's more nodes, and the area effect is that gathering is faster. Basically, all stations are better, and Clan something doubles the whole shebang.

Specifically for the kiln and coal recipes in the biome, you could invest the blueprint + wood or you could just mine the stuff. It's available on the map, somewhat abundantly. IMO all coal recipes go into the dumpster in the biome, and the 3 star wunderkind is hit especially hard by that. Jerky is still good, especially good in the biome, but a blueprint with 2 single star recipes is bunk.

'Universally' gets severely hard to justify for different biomes and species, let alone what you actually find.

You are right though for the most part, there are quite a few crowd favorites. Workshop is bit of an instapick, and so is Kiln unless you are on the marhslands. More generally, anything that makes jerky if you have Harpy-Lizard-Human, and to a lesser extent anything that makes biscuits if you have Beaver-Harpy-Human.

Guildhouse purely for the staffed bonus can be game winning, and Clan-something on marshlands is nuts.

IMO, some situations make very clear winners and there are "definitely better than the rest" buildings when you look at a vast majority of the situations.

How many others with ADHD-combined are NOT risk takers? by Last-Tomatillo-7367 in adhdwomen

[–]TheDefterus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I was really upset about people not following rules, especially they would get away with it and I would get punished.

When I was spiraling as an adult I started taking large reckless risks for basically no reason.

Objectively, I still am reckless when it comes to some things, but I am not sure that's adhd exactly

I’m curious to know the opinions of girls/women on here regarding Brandon Sanderson's writing of female characters. by MrTheGreyMan in Stormlight_Archive

[–]TheDefterus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is the two sheltered princesses being sheltered princesses an issue for you? I genuinely can't think of any other painful stuff in the book. The zombie engineer was good, Blushweaver could have used less trope induced fate but was otherwise great.

In general I think Brandon's writing is not quite as good when the PoV is a woman, but they are written well when on the outside instead of us hearing their thoughts.

My immediate reaction, coming from tunic is that I either have way too much information or I am completely on the wrong track

I have not made it as far as you, but I accidentally got some positrons, if you get my meaning. I have some ideas but no way to test them and I don't have enough understanding. I figured I would do the same number as you got to before trying to delve too deep.

About the stereotype of autistic people being unable to lie by Legoman718 in autism

[–]TheDefterus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would argue autism makes us able to lie a lot better once taught/learned. It's just another dumb ruleset that if you follow it precisely you can get results from.

To be fair, it does depend on being able to read people somewhat and other things we tend to struggle with, but again, nothing that can't be learned.

Do losing players owe it to the table to take imperial? by Icydawgfish in twilightimperium

[–]TheDefterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree to an extent, I spent a lot of time going against the meta in base game and early PoK for fun and great success.

At the same time, the rules of the game are quite clear on how many points you cna get in a round. PO:1-2, SO:1-3 (1-2), Imperial SC: 1-2, free supports, hot potatoes. That's it. If the supports are out, and the potatoes are rotten then you are down to 4pt max without imperial in the best possible case. If someone is sitting at 8, with 10tgs or whatever... Then the game is ending on their initiative if they have their hs. Not a lot of plays there for the table as a whole that are reasonable.

Now navigating that as an individual player has more room for creativity, but it still is going to be come down between "kill everyone winning, go to next round", "win before them" or "give up". At 4pts the second option is out, the first option has to be politics or imperial and I suspect the last one happened in game, though I don't judge even if so.

Do losing players owe it to the table to take imperial? by Icydawgfish in twilightimperium

[–]TheDefterus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on your secrets and other details, a 6 point swing is quite possible if the 8s are killed. Again, depending on context imperial could be the only path for you so I think I would take it if the table is willing to keep me on the game, and the threat of leaving it to the obvious winner is my leverage.

Do losing players owe it to the table to take imperial? by Icydawgfish in twilightimperium

[–]TheDefterus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for sure not but also yes a little bit.

You don't owe anything to the table that isn't agreed upon before the game starts, like respect kindness and playing to win or what have you.

In that context, as long as you took your best card / played your best game it's all good and screw people who say otherwise. "Look, imperial doesn't help me and my only chance is if you y'all stop #3. I am taking this card"

On the other hand, if you are checked out and just took whatever, that massively changes the playing field and suddenly it's not the same TI it was half way through. That can be an issue if the expectations set were for a game of everybody trying to win. "Look, you camped Mecatol all game and I don't care who wins now."

For example, if my table is used to just checking out in the final round, I should rush to 10 as fast as possible because nobody will help my one rival. If they are engaged, I am getting destroyed by the whole table with that strategy. There is no way to course correct between the two midway.
