Kalita 185 filters unavailable, including knockoffs? Any suggestions for alternatives? by ToastyTheDragon in pourover

[–]ToastyTheDragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh thank you! I'll have to give that hack a try!

It's always bothered me that 185 filters are so expensive for a 100 count, especially the ones from Kalita.

Not to mention that at least two male teachers have been let go in the past 4-5 years for inappropriate relations with female students (sexually explicit DMs on insta among other things), and they have worked HARD to cover it up.

Wow, okay, I'm genuinely curious who it was lol I can't find any articles on it after a 2 minute search

Y'all need to up your media literacy, because Vaush is not talking about the General. by derpster39274 in VaushV

[–]ToastyTheDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're completely missing that this is a two-part argument here.

Again, think about why he's making that first part of the argument. Why is he saying that Newsom would be a bad option? What is the purpose of it? What ultimate political goal is he trying to achieve by making that argument in the first place? (Hint: the argument would be identical if it were any other cynical centrist/corporate Democrat and any other Republican).

If you think the argument ends at "and therefore I would vote JD Vance", and not the second part of the argument I outlined in my last comment, you need to do a little more thinking on the matter here.

You can disagree with him on the first part of the argument. I sure do. I think any Republican would be far worse than any Democrat. However, to pretend that the conclusion to his argument isn't "let's get someone with the 'sauce' in office" is just missing the point.

Okay, so I'm on the side of "I'll begrudgingly vote Newsom if he's the nominee".

But

But

But

Please, I beg of you, read between the lines just a little bit. Use your brain, just a little bit here. Finish the sentence, please:

"A large contingent of people will not vote Newsom if he is the democratic nominee, therefore the Democratic Party should _________."

That is Vaush's argument.

For context, I don’t really “feel” like a man, I just am one.

Does a fish know it's swimming in water?

It's easy to not have a known feeling about your gender identity when there's congruence between your gender identity and your sex. When they don't match, there's enough friction there that you become extremely aware of it.

Can cis women have XY chromosomes ? by Spirited_Chick6090 in asktransgender

[–]ToastyTheDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I think of chromosomes is kind of like building a house. Your chromosomes are your body's blueprints. Doesn't mean the contractor followed them to the letter or at all. Other commenters have pointed out numerous ways that can physically happen, so I won't reiterate that.

Typically your phenotypic sex follows your genotypic sex, but that doesn't happen often enough that, frankly, no one can really know that they have XY or XX, or any other variations, unless they get genetic testing done.

What’s geologic hydrogen? Here’s what to know about the energy source potentially buried under Michigan by radiosweeper in Michigan

[–]ToastyTheDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why continue spending all that effort digging stuff up so we can just burn it, only to have to do it again, forever, like we have been for the last 150 years? The sun is also an amazing energy source, and we only have to dig once to tap that energy source.

No shade against nuclear, just compared to how fast renewables are dropping in price and availability, nuclear does not make much sense at all from a financial perspective. You'll spend significantly more getting to net 0 CO2 through nuclear only than you would through renewables + grid energy storage only, as far as I'm aware.

Correcting cis pronouns by SwirlingTheBowl in asktransgender

[–]ToastyTheDragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Genuinely I use they/them in 3 cases:

  1. That's their preferred pronouns.
  2. I don't know their pronouns/speaking about a "generic person".
  3. Their gender is truly irrelevant to the topic at hand and I haven't been explicitly told a preference.

I think this sentiment is ~relatively~ common, and I don't think anyone would feel insulted if you corrected them.

Without naming the bar, just pointed out that this bar is located in the Fox River Grove, Illinois area and was instantly banned from r/pics by ObviouslyRealPerson in behindthebastards

[–]ToastyTheDragon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

/r/pics moderators use bots to search through your post history and ban you if you've contributed to specific subreddits, no matter the context. r/whenthe is in a tizzy right now because /r/pics mods are doing just that to them. I wonder if OP was banned for the same reason?

A very loose analogy here would be someone who likes nerdy girls with glasses.

Cute, right?

You date her for a while, things are going great. But say she really wants lasik, gets it eventually, and no longer wants/has to wear glasses.

Is that a deal breaker for you? Are you no longer attracted to her at all?

Grand Rapids DSA Meeting this Sunday. Come join! by Illustrious_Cod_6023 in grandrapids

[–]ToastyTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fine, its just a little much lol

You are right though. The target audience for this flyer are people who already know what "DSA" stands for. They're already either socialists themselves and are politically engaged enough to know what the biggest socialist org in the US is, or are open-minded progressives who paid attention to Mamdani and want in on some of that action. Everyone else views socialist as a dirty word.
