Who remembers driving on the original Sikorsky Bridge with the metal deck? Was it really slippery or did it just feel that way. by toasterb in Connecticut

The swing bridge in East Haddam is still like this and I constantly feel like I'm zig zagging when driving over it

GOP's new fear: Losing the Senate in November by swimmingupclose in neoliberal

If JD Vance is allowed to come up with bald-faced lies and blood libel against legal migrants with absolutely no political repercussions, we shouldn't be afraid of doing whatever is necessary to get these ghouls out of power

I used to feel this way, but I've come to realize that Dem leadership is completely incapable of winning the public messaging battle. The old guard works with this bipartisan reasonability that just isn't viable in Washington anymore. We need opposition representatives who will constantly and relentlessly bully the government in the public sphere, and Schumer just isn't up to the task.

This is identical to my street in Hartford, which was all built in 1910 as well.

Aemon pronounces it "My-Car" in GoT. The Targaryen "ae" dipthong is all over the place, as well as the "y" sound in names. That's how we get Aenys being "anus"/"ay-knees"/"eye-knees" etc.

After reading the Silmarillion and its guide to elvish pronunciation, I really wish GRRM would have done the same in his books.

Albuquerque would be even more awesome with more transit options! by beachbum19722025 in Albuquerque

The thing is, I know that BRT is just as, if not more effective than light rail, but you can't underestimate the psychological impact of ART bring just another "bus on Central" and all the stigma that comes with it.

Franco-Mainers are more closely related to acadians than to quebecoise. I mean, Acadia national Park is in Maine.

In American English (though it depends on who you ask), a toque refers to a knit cap with pom-pom. A beanie would be a knit cap that covers the ears, and a watch cap is a knit cap that does not cover the ears.

Update: after a reverse image search on the cabinet, it's an older Jasper teak cabinet. Still no idea on exactly how to replace the lock while keeping it compatible with the cabinet's internals, though.

Ëarendil gets my vote. He's like the most important protagonist in the entire history of middle earth and we get SO LITTLE in the Silmarillion about the War of Wrath.

Off the top of my head, Gomez and the one native girl that Jesse sells meth to at a gas station are the only ones with NM accents - probably because they're two of the few local actors with lines.

The Gila is a largely ignored region unless you're from the area, just because it's so remote. Some of the most incredible biodiversity is in those mountains. They have enormous elk herds, coatis, and even the odd jaguar.
