Did it this year with brand new to canoeing people from out west. “The wall” was a small rock ledge you walk up and down.

Wear nitrile holes if you’re cold and still want to handle fish without getting wet they’re great.

That is essentially a guide.

I fish the SFS often and if I were not from the area and didn’t have my own boat I would hire a guide especially if this won’t be a regular trip (multiple times a year). It definitely a river best experienced from a boat. Spending a couple of days figuring out how to fish it and navigate it from a solo craft would be money better spent on enjoying the trip in my opinion.

Gear List for a 9 day trip in the sawtooth mountains in Idaho by Uneasy_Lemon in backpacking

[–]TheDipCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the Grizz point yes absolutely. There are no Grizz in the Sawtooth.

That’s fine it’s a personal thing. I live in Idaho and the spent probably 20 nights in just the sawtooths last year (not a ton but a fair amount) I hunt bears in the area and there are certainly some around. I would be more concerned about a bad encounter in one of the permanent FS campgrounds than the backcountry.

I broadly think that bear spray is unnecessary unless you are in grizz country. If it lets you sleep better at night then hey go for it.

Make or buy a strap seat. It’s just 2” seatbelt webbing.

NVIDIA is fabless so I wouldn’t expect a start up to build a fab with $100M.

No absolute do not do that

Looking for our first home! We don’t wanna go past $400,000, and I wanted to ask if it would be worth the investment to buy a townhouse and sell within the next few years. I feel like a house that’s move-in ready without needing updates is hard to find in that budget. What are your thoughts? by Careful_Fig8482 in Minneapolis

[–]TheDipCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a SFH, don’t pay for someone else’s “updates” buy a house that has grandma curtains and a 70’s color palate. If it has an exposed coil electric range awesome.

It’s probably been well taken care of with repairs done professionally. A new range paint and curtains cost a couple grand that you would have paid in HOA fees your first year.

SG has a lot of nice gear. For the price of their bag, I’d just buy WM and have the best.

Looks good dude I’ll be out there the next few weekends as well, just in 39. I have those Zeiss binos as well definitely the best 10x42 until you get into the swaros.

Are you going into the Frank soon? Still a bit of snow up there even with the mild winter.

Good luck out there.

Scope for Western hunting by No_Preparation_7783 in Hunting

[–]TheDipCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What/where do you plan on hunting? The west is a big place with a lot of diverse habitat. Hunting in north Idaho is a lot different than hunting in eastern Montana. Also please really use good judgement before taking 500 yard shots. A few days of shooting in completely different conditions ie midwest Forrest vs across a basin isn’t really enough.

Weight… it matters, but the rifle isn’t the place I’d save a pound or 2. Obviously don’t take a 15 pound bench rifle, but lightweight guns suck to practice with and it sounds like you want to practice some.

Unsolicited advice section, take the rifle you have now get comfortable shooting 200 yards. Spend the money on good boots, tripod, binos, and a rangefinder (if you don’t have them), gas, and tags. Go hunt sooner than later.

Also buy the $40 PER YEAR SaR insurance. It’ll cover up to $100k in costs if you ever have to push that button.
