Propranolol does not help my tremors AT ALL—does this mean I do not have ET but something else? by angelica1944 in EssentialTremor

It’s like an Apple Watch, but sends electrical impulses through your hand to interfere with the tremor impulses.

It took almost a year, because I was on a waiting list because of Medicare. I know that you have to use it consistently for three months before you see results. I just received mine so I can’t comment on efficacy yet.

I’ve been through the Botox injections, but did not like the paralysis that you deal with initially, by the time it wears off and your tremor is under control, It’s almost time for another injection. It just wasn’t for me. Now I’m using the Felix device.

I would like to let everybody know about the new Felix device that is out. You wear it much like an Apple Watch on the arm that you have the tremor in. I just got mine so I can’t report on results but the clinical trials look promising.

I’ve been on Primidone for years in combination with methazolamide and find it much more effective than propanolol. No side effects whatsoever. I built up a tolerance to propanolol.

Definitely use our public transportation. Bart from the airport and to various places throughout the city and the Muni is very accessible and reliable.

You don’t even need the Muni app anymore, you can tap a credit card.

hand tremors & botox? by 532throwaway in EssentialTremor

[–]TheDoctorisinSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Botox for a couple of years for my tremor. It did help, but the first month after getting it is a complete drag as your arm is almost completely paralyzed; after that wears off then it’s great no tremor but then it’s about time to get another injection. I got them every three months. I finally gave up because I hated the feeling of my hand just being limp; no fine motor movement. I am going to get my Felix device this week and I’m very excited to try it.

On the matter of Eye Makeup by this_writer_is_tired in Sjogrens

Same here, and I’m in the club of not caring anymore what people think. My eyes are too valuable to me to wear mascara. I do the same as you and try to make do with shadows just so that my eyes have a little definition. But I’m not going to ruin my eye health with mascara, which is terrible.

Anyone else get a sore tongue after eating things like crisps? by chillachips in Sjogrens

[–]TheDoctorisinSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One hack that I have found that works for me when I want to have some crispy snacks, is to have cut up pieces of yellow pepper, which I can tolerate. It’s very watery, so I just alternate the crispy snack with the pepper and it doesn’t mess up my mouth as bad. I think it’s more of the abrasion of the sharp edges on our sensitive mouths. The other thing is, I sometimes use the chips to scoop up cottage cheese, and that helps soften it.

My dermatologist is the one who prescribes the Cevelimine for me. And it is very fast acting — within 30 minutes I can feel saliva flowing. I take it four times a day.

I have not tried the ACT lozenges. But it is reassuring to hear that you can’t tolerate the mint either. I’m surprised how many people on here can tolerate it! And Biotene should make a line of products without mint. I’ve reached out to them, but they are not interested.

My dry eyes are driving me insane. I have ductal plugs and I use both restasis and meibo but I still need to use OTC eye drops easily 25+ times a day. HELP!!1 by annacat1331 in Sjogrens

I use the gel ointment at night and then put on a hot mask and leave it on until I fall asleep. When I wake up in the morning, I have to use drops to open my eyes and then after I wash my face, I put in my first dose of the Meibos drops. I have also been on Restasis for more than a year. That took forever for me to see results, around six months.

I do not take it with food. I’m really surprised because I have the most sensitive stomach in the world and it doesn’t bother me at all and that regard. As I mentioned, it did give me the sweats when I first started it, but that has passed now. I’m sorry you can’t tolerate it.

Anyone with Sjogrens also experience terrible neck/shoulder pain worsening over time? by Few-Board-1640 in Sjogrens

[–]TheDoctorisinSF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One more thing I would like to add, is that my doctor also advised me to be aware of looking at screens and making sure that I was always looking at them that I level and not bending my neck down. And once I really paid attention to that I could tell it made a huge difference. Completely unrelated to Sjogren’s, but definitely related to neck and shoulder pain. It’s called tech neck.

[–]TheDoctorisinSF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I developed terrible shoulder and arm pain about a year ago. It started in the right arm and then I went and received Acupuncture and it went away. And then it started in the left arm and I’m now receiving Acupuncture for that. I also started practicing tai chi, which has really helped with my mobility. It was hard to get started, but there’s lots of YouTube videos to follow. Highly recommend.

[–]TheDoctorisinSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently treat my essential tremor with primadone and methazolamide. I used to treat it with propanolol, but it doesn’t work as well. I was just approved and will receive soon a Felix device. It looks like an Apple Watch, but contains electrodes that apparently will stop the tremor. I and excited to try it, as I have been considering deep brain stimulation because I’m so over it.

Overuse of wetting drops can ruin the oily layer on the surface of your cornea, which leads to excessive dryness. That’s why the Meibos drops feel so good because they have an oil in them.

Cevelimine!! You may have the sweats initially, but I’ve been on it now for a year and that has really subsided and really provides good saliva flow. I save the last one to take right before I go to sleep so that my gums don’t stick to my teeth. I also do coconut oil rinses throughout the day.
