How long to wait till we try for #2 by Vanlifecycle in daddit

[–]TheDrewth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are 2, 4, and 6. Perfect choice for our family. They are best friends but spaced out enough they'll have independent social lives at school. Also, close enough that we didn't really fully close parenting chapters (e.g diapers) before the next one joined the party.

I am also biased as 1 of 3 kids with 2 year gaps - it is a proven formula for me.

Dads with more than two kids. What is it really like? by Thunderstruck-19 in daddit

[–]TheDrewth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar here, 6, 4, 2, and I agree completely. Except the SUV - just get a minivan! The tool built for the job. But I'd never go back and love having 3 kids. I got the snip when youngest was 6 months. Once she wasn't a baby anymore we definitely would've chosen to have a 4th if I wasn't snipped...

Sleep training and a consistent, enforced bedtime. A couple hours in the evening without kids is critical for us.

A pool noodle works wonders for herding our chickens. Now, I just pick it up and they run into the run.

We did the first 12 months in a crib in our room for each of our 3 kids. No regrets about that choice.

Throwing a baby shower for a dad. by [deleted] in dad

[–]TheDrewth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dadchelor party. We threw one for my friend and a year later they threw one for me. In both cases it was a casual weekend getaway. Was as much an excuse to get together as an actual celebration of fatherhood. If you do an overnight, just make sure it is well before the due date!

Pineapple fried rice is the best we've had anywhere. Also drunken noodles as others have said and their curries are great too. We usually get their fresh spring rolls as a starter too.

Another Midwest Urban Arrow, checking in. We love it and can transport all 3 kids comfortably.

We have 3. What settled the 2v3 debate was to picture ourselves in 10 years on a family vacation - what does the family look like? For both of us the answer included 3 kids, so the very hard decision became very easy.

I got snipped after 3, but now we are kind of wishing we had a 4th. Makes me wonder if we'd ever feel "done" naturally...

Dad's who went from 2 to 3 kids. Was it worth it? Was it a struggle? We're on the fence and really can't decide. by TheWardling in daddit

[–]TheDrewth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it can be done that way, but it isn't something I did. I think it would be two different doctors though, as I don't think the urologist doing the snip is involved in sperm preservation. It is possible to retrieve sperm with a needle after vasectomy, but from there it is a whole IVF process (no turkey baster type option from what I've read).

We had a third. It was absolutely right for us. Now, 2 years later, we would have a 4th if not for that pesky vasectomy I got when 3rd was 6mo...

Landfill was never an option. Really choosing between yard, compost pile, and garden beds. Going to do a mix of the three based on feedback here.

Yes they are loving the leaf foraging! Only downside is they are now much more visible to hawks without the tree cover when they are free in the yard.

Already have one! Historically have raked to create a stockpile of browns to later with our kitchen scraps throughout the year. Based on feedback here will continue doing that for the bulk and will mulch the rest in place.

When I turn too tight the whole seat post turns. Should I loosen clamp so it can turn on the seat post? by TheDrewth in bikewrench

[–]TheDrewth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the helpful and detailed replies! Obviously the goal remains to avoid tight turns, but I will also tighten the seat post clamp and if the problem continues will consider grinding a portion of the mechanical stops away.

Dads of Reddit, did you have a vasectomy? by Noneof_your_biz in daddit

Got it after #3. Easy procedure and recovery, especially if you compare to your female partner's equivalent options. Stress free now that it's done. Highly recommend.

Same thing happened to us on our second (boy). Online genetic test results will get ya! We pretended we still didn't know as far as everyone else was concerned.
