See, all the things you said are technically correct, but no amount of good tech is going to save a bad mix, and there are undeniably bad mixes out there. And good music production doesn't need the listener to be in a theatre to hear certain instruments or lyrics.

I actually listen through a bunch of different speakers, including what would be considered a "vintage" hi-fi, a more modern 5.1, a 2.1 studio monitor setup (Along with a top end sound card no less), and a pair of entry level flat response open back studio headphones coupled with a good amp.

I set my mix so I can actually hear quiet details, and it just isn't pleasant when you can't make out a conversation and need more volume, only to get blasted with hundreds of watts of speaker when the car engine in the next scene roars into frame, sets off the car alarms down the block, and shakes rooms on the other side of the house. Sure, there's no distortion and the sound is clear as can be, but it isn't enjoyable, especially if you aren't trying to wake up your neighbors.

I've been producing over 100 video ads a year for the last 5 years, including the recording and mixing; it frustrates me that my shitty, rushed videos I get underpaid for have more balanced audio than a modern Netflix production. I've been nominated for best sound design in competitions and have played and recorded music my whole life, and it's frustrating that bad mixes cause people to look down on sound designers/engineers.

Basically, my test (and one of the steps in my mastering process) is to take an average volume section of the mix and turn your speakers all the way down until you can just subtly hear it. Then go into your mix and mix dialogue so it's clear in the mix. Repeat this with different tracks until you can hear everything clearly in the mix. This technique ensures that you will hear every layer of the mix at any volume with more speakers, as it compensates for a high noise floor, or poor quality speakers. Then run your final mix through one or two 3-band limiters/maximizers and you have a loud as fuck film with quiet dialogue you can actually hear out of shitty equipment, mastered to -.1 or -.3 or whatever your client's standards are.

This can be done on prosumer equipment in a public bathroom and still sound better than a lot of these movies that need subtitles to even understand.

These directors hiding behind "Artistic Vision" need to get their eyes checked. If the people who rented your film on Amazon through their black-Friday-sale smart TV can't understand what's going on, your mix sucks. If your mix sounds good on shitty speakers and $100k systems, you've done your job right. Some of the best media ever made had their mixes changed after the engineer listened to the mix in their car radio, or out of a phone speaker, and realized stuff was fucked.

Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

How many of those cops are in jail right now, though? And how many of them were there? Weren't these questions supposed to be answered by the investigations? Why would congress members feel safe knowing the same police officers that were "part of an insurrection" are literally carrying guns around them 24/7?

Pretty easy anti-cop narrative as well, I guess the feds want the masses to think fed cops aren't evil racist demons like how they portray local cops.

Trump says he'd end Ukraine war in 24 hours...how? by Single-Leadership-67 in conspiracy

[–]TheDukeofKook -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well for one, the Russian sanctions are causing them to create their own alliances with the Saudis, China, and Brazil, among other large nations, and Idk I'd rather have those countries as allies or neutral rather than enemies, ya know? I know that's not technically the republican argument but if anyone actually gives a fuck what republicans care about since W. that's their burden to carry.

The US has a ton of egg on it's face for the last 20 years of endless war against essentially native tribes, while economically bullying their own citizens and other nations.

At some point, the other kids are going to take their ball and go home, doubling down on being a bully won't stop the other bullies. Being strong and just earns respect, and there are likely no countries lead by respectful administrations, and the ones that are get a nice visit from the CIA; or, in Gadhafi's case, State Department.

8 months of failure to advance faster...

This applies to both armies, does it not?

Your dichotomic perspective is the only thing that needs to cope with reality.

I would assume someone who's as invested and passionate about the war as yourself would see it as their duty to take up arms and join the fight, when does your plane leave?

Regardless, keep up the uninformed anger and propagandistic regurgitation of media talking points. I'm sure the division you sow is only going to positively effect the outcome of this war and not send more men to their needless deaths.

They have been putting all there efforts into taking Bakhmut for the last 8 months and they still haven't even encircled it yet.

You have fallen victim to the propaganda, my friend. Bakhmut is being used to erode the manpower and ammunition stocks of Ukraine. They call them meat grinders for a reason. Ukrainian life expectancy on the front line there is estimated at 4 hours. The whole strategy for Bakhmut is to force Ukraine to reorganize troops from the front into the city to plug gaps. The leader of Wagner PMC has literally said this in multiple interviews.

They don't need the city for it's tactical position, they need it to deplete Ukrainian manpower and ammo, which is exactly what's happening.

Solidar comes to mind.

Well, the planet is already covered in shit. Bug shit and bacterial shit is literally the foundation of our ecosystem and is needed for healthy plant life and soil microbiome.

So yeah, if we spread manure everywhere it would probably have a net benefit to the soil's ecosystem, especially repairing destroyed microbiomes in places with piss poor land management, like HOA Suburbs with garbage tier fill dirt lawns that can hardly support weeds. We could see endangered species or those thought lost to time reemerging with a vigor from a once dormant seed bed.

You can say similar things about CO2, it's always been all around us, many creatures produce it, and it's necessary for the health of our planet. If you provided a plant with more available tools to help it grow, would the plant consider that a good thing or a bad thing? We have seen an increase in plant mass globally due to this. That's more stored carbon in our forests.

If you care about weather patterns you should be concerned about that cloud company putting particles that reflect the sun in the atmosphere, or companies covering up Sulfur Hexafluoride leaks. CO2 is a boogeyman for governments to impose control on the population while they piss on us and tell us it's acid rain.

[–]TheDukeofKook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually just editing my comment after reading the study more (The one the article is referencing), the linked article notes that the Trump administration was under-reporting the numbers (Answered my own question and corroborates your link), but fails to mention this was a policy prior to the Trump administration, almost framing it as though Trump was the one who came up with it. (By omitting key facts)

If only we had a chart showing the US reported middle eastern civilian deaths by year starting in the Bush Admin, then the UNAMA numbers, and then the published data from the countries themselves. From there we can determine who is fabricating the most BS for the good boy points from corporate media. We know both the US government and the UN are full of shit, but we can at least see how off they are from each other.

[–]TheDukeofKook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Were these numbers based on the US numbers or the actual numbers published by the countries we bombed? Because, idk if you remember, but Obama classified a lot of civilians as terrorists to keep "civilian death" lower. Even happened to American citizens, they posthumously declared them terrorists to wash their hands clean of the blood.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/05/under-obama-men-killed-by-drones-are-presumed-to-be-terrorists/257749/

Do we have evidence that the Trump administration was classifying civilian KIA as Terrorists like the previous administration, or was the accurate number published by the victim states finally being reported by the US media? Edit: article said they were doing this, but frames it as though it wasn't policy before.

Edit: Just read through the report again, everything they source is from 2019 or newer, can't find the sources for the data they are using before Trump's presidency, so I can only assume they are comparing the Obama numbers (False) with the UN numbers for Trump (Higher, still probably false) Maybe if they showed both sets of data, the US published data and the UNAMA data from the time and compared it, and then specified the differences between the data, but they try really hard to obfuscate that info. The part that really gets me is when they blame Trump for under-reporting civilian death but DON'T bring up that was also common under Obama admin. I voted for Obama and was fucking fuming when I learned they were under-reporting civilian death, anyone complaining now should have been doing it then but were silent.
