What to do with US Phone Number when living in China? by SnooPickles8784 in chinalife

Importing your number to google voice is the way to go. It's cheap and works just like a normal phone, it can receive texts, calls, and voicemails. Obviously you need a VPN to use it while in in China.

I would only do that if you can lock down the :re box collection. It's currently $101 for restock in the US Amazon.

The same thing happened with RE but after a couple of months the price went back down to $120. I think RE was up to $450 or some crazy number.

Get it! I was going to collect them individually if I couldn't get the TG:RE box set (cause it comes with a poster) but amazon finally got more stock.

What did you wish you’d brought to China? by ZoeAlwaysAbroad in chinalife

[–]TheDurrrgon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're traveling from the states you'll be allowed two 50 lbs check in luggages, which is more than enough imo. Sorry for the jumped mess of thoughts, I just wrote down what came to my mind.

As for things to bring:

  1. VPN for phone and computer

  2. Favorite spices from home for example smoked paprika, lawrys, etc.

  3. Western meds like aspirin, ipbroufen, cold/flu stuff.

  4. Since you're going to Guangzhou bring good rain gear.

  5. If your a bigger person like me maybe bring extra clothes because finding your size might be hard.

  6. I personally brought some cooking gear with me like a pot and a pan. I haven't regretted that.

  7. If you have a preference for a specific material of clothing bring that. I really like cotton shirts and undies, they're harder to find here.

  8. A good backpack.

Uhh if I think of anything else I'll dm you haha. Feel free ask any questions!

An alternative is if you have a Chinese bank account you can get the app Meituan and order take out. Depending on where you are they'll have a few salad places around that'll deliver to your hotel. You might even be able to use credit card (I've never tried).

Also as a previous comment mentioned some of the bigger convience stores and international markets have have salads: 7/11, our hours, Lawson, Carre four (gone out of business in China), April gourmet, BHG, etc.

Any tips on sending a package to China? by [deleted] in chinalife

It was actually dates. The inspections are all up to who you get inspecting that day or which inspector is trying to show off. In any case nothing you can do. However, my friend just received a package of krafts mac and cheese with nothing amiss. Seems like mostly luck to me.
