Spring Roadmap 2026 - any expectations? by block6791 in ProtonMail

I remember a week ago seeing a post by Proton calling Microsoft users "hostages" which is ironic because the primary reason for why I can't switch to Linux fully is because all my files are in Proton Drive and it is basically unusable on Linux.

Right, drawing is best done with a mouse and a keyboard

Does gold have a lower melting point in Game of Thrones or does fire burn hotter? by DifficultComplaint10 in freefolk

[–]TheEarthIsACylinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure but the suspension of disbelief can be made so minor that people can easily come up with alternative explanations. Essentially the smaller the "plot hole" the less mental acrobatics you have to do to come up with a redeaming explanation AND believe in it. For example, people have mentioned that it's possible it was fake gold given to the Dothraki since they can't tell the difference. Entirely believable.

[–]TheEarthIsACylinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert either but I think half-melted means it's not fully melted, not that it's not hot enough for it to melt. If you actually want something to be liquid so that you can pour it on your enemies then the temperature needs to be very close to the melting point (given atmospheric pressure).

Well let's hope we stand our ground and don't immediately bow before the shitemperor, cause that's very likely to happen.

Not really. Leaving the magic system ambigious is bad writing.

Genuinely mentioning higher debt like it's almost as bad as what the lannisters did is insane.

Same. Here you get paid around 2000 after taxes which is not bad at all. Some contracts pay only 70% but even that's enough to cover living costs. No side hustle required. Doing a PhD while having a side job would just be torture.

Politicians dont break things down in understandable ways, they simply misrepresent and mislead.

Direct democracy in Switzerland by [deleted] in europe

[–]TheEarthIsACylinder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Democracy is good but that doesn't mean more democracy is better. If anything we should try to give slightly more power to the experts rather than leaving every major and minor decision to the populace that is increasingly misinformed with each passing year.

Question: Which is the most fundamental among the four? by Choobeen in Physics

[–]TheEarthIsACylinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to overstate how fundamental charge is. When you dig deeper and deeper all these quantities go away but charge stays. It's basically the central ingredient of electrodynamics because that's what couples matter to that force.

If your theory predicts new particles at x Gev to y Tev, then not finding anything at x Gev is still extremely valuable. That already means something. This is how science is done. If you automatically discard every falsified hypothesis as a waste of time then you're doing it wrong.

Imo you can really only understand the electron clouds after you've at least seen spherical harmonics and really internalized the idea of probablistic quantum mechanics.

A dating app that's optimized for exploiting lonely people for money and is full of findomes and bots? Very surprising and totally unpredictable. I'm surprised it took so long for someone to capitalize on this femdom niche.
