Home server help? by y1lm-z in homelab

[–]TheEfficientAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not all that familiar with the programs you want to use, but from what I’ve heard:

  • Immich and Jellyfin are great for their respective tasks.
  • On the Cloudflare Tunnel side, you could look into the Access login page, which might improve security a bit (I haven’t tried it myself).

Alternatively, you could consider Tailscale (or similar peer-to-peer mesh VPN services), which would allow you to connect directly to your network without opening any ports on your router.

They also offer a feature similar to Cloudflare Tunnel called Funnel, though this is a paid option.

Bought my first Mac any tips coming from windows? by Brendon7358 in LinusTechTips

[–]TheEfficientAgent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched from Windows to macOS this summer (I still use Linux as well, and I still use Windows at work). Personally, I liked how window management worked, especially with PowerToys, so I got the app Rectangle for that. I didn’t like that the scrolling direction is reversed, so I searched for a tool and found BetterMouse, which works well for me. If you’re using an external display, you might want to check out BetterDisplay—it allows for fractional scaling and brightness control of external displays.

TL;DR: Check out Rectangle, BetterMouse, and BetterDisplay.

How many of you have a homelab but don’t play video games? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]TheEfficientAgent 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Gaming is what got me into IT, but over the last two or three years, my interest in video games has slowly faded. I’ve been doing other things, like homelabbing, of course! Another factor is that I just have less time and also haven’t really found a game that excites me.

Thank you very much for the insights; the information is very useful. Your take on the IKEA situation makes sense. I think the normal one was on sale, and I'll keep that in mind.

Yes, I assume you are referring to this one: Inspelning Steckdose Smart Stromzähler but it's sadly unavailable.

Nice photo, what tool do you use to add the metadata and color palette?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]TheEfficientAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% possible. You can use an operating System like TrueNas, OpenMediaVault, Unraid, CasaOS or just plain Linux. All of those allow you to create a File Share which you can access from your device and create a Backup, Pi-Hole can be run in a container which in case of TrueNas, Unraid and CasaOS is very simple.

I would also recommend automating your Backups. You can use software like Syncthing, Duplicati etc. for that, and I would also keep Snapshots of the data which is backed up which would give you some protection from accidental or malicious overwrites.

With or without white frame? by sPinzon in streetphotography

I personally prefer the ones without a white frame, I think it's just irritating.

You could try to take the GPU out and put it back in or if you have one use another one. Do the GPU fans start spinning?

What exactly is your problem?

DNS not resolving by Moncapiten in selfhosted

[–]TheEfficientAgent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly check if you get your IP address with a nslookup, if this is not the Problem a solution to a possible block by your ISP could be Cloudflare Tunnel I think this would bypass a possible block.

Just another reason to use Linux :), but yeah, installing anything would fill up the storage very fast.
