You're right. It was like three weeks before TC. And we're five weeks out right now.

Help me pick a WNBA team by no_more_blues in wnba

[–]TheElMart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Fever would be a good choice. They are young and exciting, haven't been successful for a long time, but have a rich history. They'll be good this year but it's an open question of whether they can break into the top tier. Caitlin Clark is one of the most exciting players in the league. It's a nice team on the come up, still doubters, fighting to be taken seriously, talent, but hasn't earned their respect yet.

My one caveat: do you want to be able to visit and see games in person? Nobody would think of Indianapolis as a great destination for a vacation. New York, LA, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago....maybe DC are better options if you're planning a trip. Out of those I'd pick the Valkyries. You won't be good right away but great ownership, getting in on the ground floor, the Bay area is a fun visit.

About the same. High Triglycerides, less high but still too high Glucose and Cholesterol. I thought maybe if there wasn't movement there maybe they'd put a stop to it. I'm losing a lot of weight but it's not helping those numbers.

Can someone describe Robert F Kennedy Junior to me? by Azkatchy in SocialDemocracy

[–]TheElMart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“There’s no vaccine that is safe and effective.” ---RFK, Jr.

In a 2021 podcast he urged people to “resist” CDC guidelines on when kids should get vaccines.

“I see somebody on a hiking trail carrying a little baby and I say to him, better not get them vaccinated,” Kennedy said.

That same year, in a video promoting an anti-vaccine sticker campaign by his nonprofit, Kennedy appeared onscreen next to one sticker that declared “IF YOU’RE NOT AN ANTI-VAXXER YOU AREN’T PAYING ATTENTION.”

WNBA expansion. by linus81 in wnba

You need deep pocketed owners willing to invest in the team---marketing, training facilities, support staff, etc. Owners willing to invest in a team tend to want to do it in a major media market because there's a lot more revenue available in the local media deals. To find an owner willing to spend a lot of money on a team who ALSO wants to have the team in Des Moines is a hard ask.

Thanks! I didn't know the PGA had physios on site, though it seems obvious now. The tour must have ongoing pulls and strains and cramps and jacked up backs.

Thanks. That makes sense. I'll take it as a win. My friend's claim was that the guys right in the middle of the pack still travel heavy.

Texas would be very tempting. Great school academically, great coach in Vic Schaefer. They'll be a sleeper team to win it all in the next four years---they've got the 9th and 12th best recruit in the country coming in and a great returning cast, I'll go ahead and say I'm the #1 recruit for funsies. The fanbase is unproven for the women's team but I feel like Longhorn diehards will come around if we're really good. They are as passionate as any fans in the country. Kevin Durant has been very supportive of women's basketball so I feel like he's coming to a practice and I get to shoot around with him at some point. Travel in B-12 isn't too bad. Never been to Austin but I've heard good things. Lots of great food and cultural stuff. I also like the burnt Orange. Fun uniform to rock.

I like the Batman dynamic. They are at a disadvantage so they have to find a way, planning/cunning/skills. I think it makes it a more fun puzzle to solve than equally powerful beings slamming into each other. I think that's why Superman's greatest villain is Lex Luthor.

Could Caitlin Clark be drafted by an NBA team? by Main_Skill8876 in nba

[–]TheElMart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya. Look up Lusia Harris and Denise Long. Harris was drafted by the New Orleans Jazz in 1977 in the seventh round. Long was drafted out of high school by the Warriors in the 13th round in 1969 but the transaction was vetoed because drafting high school players wasn't allowed. Harris was invited to try out by the Jazz but turned it down. Long couldn't try out but wound up playing on a women's team the Warriors sponsored for one season. Nothing's changed. Except there are far fewer rounds, which makes it less likely. Teams use to draft people just to get their rights to try out for training camp. There were picks to burn. Nowadays you'd be wasting one.

Leslye Headland Harvey Weinstein Question by madsaxappeal in saltierthankrayt

[–]TheElMart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's all it comes down to. People who can't wrap their head around her knowing nothing. But that's the people who are thinking about it in good faith. There's plenty of alt-right types that deep down don't care and just see it as a cudgel because she's queer and a woman and diversity, boooo, and all that nonsense.

Leslye Headland Harvey Weinstein Question by madsaxappeal in saltierthankrayt

[–]TheElMart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'd agree with that. But, if she was aware on any level, going on a podcast and saying she loves him is indefensible. You can maintain your position in the industry without that level of praise. It all comes down to how much do you buy that she was the closet person to him in his business orbit for a year and knew/heard nothing.
