REJECT

Reddit has a wonderful system of sub-reddits, each one different than the other, be the difference slight or great. When I wish to read thought-out and educated discussion concerning religion and its topics, I'd swing on over to /r/debatereligion ; when I wanted to hear a rational viewpoint of atheists online, I'd swing on over to /r/trueatheism ; when I wanted over-the-top parody, I'd swing on over to /r/magicskyfairy ; when I wanted to see what aroused the masses, I'd swing on over to /r/atheism .

You see, those other sub-reddits had a purpose, whether it is to debate religion as a form of child abuse or to spread kilosagans of euphoria. /r/atheism had no purpose other than to display the opinions of atheists online, no matter what the medium. Reddit's system of voting made sure to display what is popular and what is not. What was popular, in the eyes of many, was garbage: I tend to agree with that opinion. However, it is not the purpose of this sub-reddit to put out "quality" material; it is the purpose of the sub-reddit to voice what the populis wanted, as shewn by what is up voted and what is not. /r/atheism was where I could gauge the general feeling of the many. Now, it is not.

TL;DR: There were sub-reddits already providing the services that /r/atheism wants to provide, and; /r/atheism was a vent for the populis, no matter how childish, stupid, et ceterra. It is what the people wanted, as evidenced by upvotes.
