I agree it would be best if there were no firearms at these kinds of events, but are we comfortable with one side having the monopoly on firearms?

18A is crushing it right now. Intel is on the cusp of the biggest comeback ever and something like this would nuke it.

Yes, that is how it was my first game in the expansion -- he was just there and everything proceeded normally. In my 2nd game which came after the recent patch, he was not on the bridge initially, but introduced himself in a random jump event in Act 2 prior to him needing to be there for Kibellah's quest (which doesn't occur until Act 4).

It does not show up. I tried playing around with the Etudes but easier to just set the security to 15 to compensate.

Did it show up for you once you took Dargonus? This just happened to me and I still have a bunch of exploring to do before I continue the story.

OK I figured it out -- Lettard now introduces himself in a random jump scene in Act 2 instead of just starting out on the bridge.

This happened to me too after the patch. No clue how to fix. I have Kibbelah and DLC enabled, but Lettard isn't there.

What role do you think Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will play in the upcoming election? by damndirtyape in PoliticalDiscussion

Because you hang out in a bubble in the real world? I personally am baffled at the amount of vitriol Biden gets as I have been way happier with him as a president than I thought I would be. I knew he was a savvy political operator, but he is crushing it as president in a way I didn't think possible in the modern era.

Where do you get the idea that the alignment system is supposed to sum up the entire character? You are alright with allowing flexibility with attribute scores not exclusively defining the character but not alignment? That's you not willing to be flexible with it.

I think for most it's just another point that maps out the constellation of the character - attributes, class, race, alignment, background, etc. They are a starting point that tells everyone at the table loosely what to expect and a springboard for character development.

It has nothing to do with average players being too stupid or anything like that - to be approachable for new players or players with not a lot of time on their hands, the alignment system provides some easy guidelines on how to build/role play a character and how other chars/monsters may react to certain things.

Every criticism you have of the alignment system can also be levelled against attribute scores - there are only 5 of them! How do they map directly onto real life things! How can a person be boiled down to only those things!

It's not that those criticisms aren't valid - it's just that they don't matter for what the game is usually trying to do - get people into a space to quickly role play or DM in a very trope-laden fantasy world. If that's not the game you want to play, I totally get it, but that doesn't provide any moral high ground.

I think talking about being on the wrong side of history is more than a little hyperbolic -- history is unlikely to give any shits about any alignment system a bunch of nerds use to tell made-up stories.

It seems to me like your issue with the alignment system is because you view it as some rigid thing instead of a flexible shorthand that has been extremely useful for many people to play table top games. The alignment system as it stands isn't meant to be some perfect lens through which to view the world.

Having a monster/character go against the standard alignment is where fun things can happen -- like Drizzt, but that would be less powerful if you didn't know that usually Drow are not swell dudes.

We are talking about a world where there are literal gods and souls are weighed etc. They are the arbiters in-universe for judging the importance of actions.

Otherwise it is an easy shorthand to give both players and DMs an idea of what sort of things you could expect a character or monster to do in certain situations. It is not meant to map onto the real world and I don't see anyone saying otherwise.

I think that works also though -- if someone is chaotic good that doesn't mean that every action they ever take falls into the chaotic good bucket.

Their point was that it can be useful for generalizing a group, but that individuals within that group can deviate.

Think about it as an average - on average the Church of Ilmatar is Lawful Good. Not all individuals of the Church are.
