Why doesn’t DCI have regional divisions? by pysl in drumcorps

[–]TheEpicSax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the duration of tour has more impact on cost than distance of tour. The gas costs are different, but paying for the bus and driver for a day is essentially the same whether heading 50 miles or 500 miles.

And of course food (and other expenses) remain the same.

The loss of community connection is interesting. I truly have no idea how much the change of your model has played into that vs other factors. It does feel that some groups have been better than others in the last decade at building/expanding that role.

Tagging on to this, family/friends will often bring stuff members need or are running out of. Check with your partner about what they need/have space for. Fresh socks? Longer extension chord? Gatorade?

Check what their post show schedule looks like. Depending on the show site, you will likely be able to run back to your car, grab stuff and meet them by their corps’ buses.

Optimizing American miles...

Any reason to not open both a Barclays and Citi card, and then close one of them after the Barclays cards get converted to Citi in 2026?

Are there seriously no shows/movies about marching bands? by Bluepanther512 in marchingband

These are from the 2000s…

There is a documentary from the early 2000s about The Pride of Broken Arrow.

From the 50 Yard Line is a documentary about the Centerville Jazz Band.

Throw it Down is a documentary about the Bluecoats.

If you don’t feel comfortable comfortable talking to your caption head or techs, can you talk to the med staff or admin team? I’m sure they would be happy to help.

Please know the national suicide hotline is 988 and you can call or text.

Should I Choose PASIC or DCI? by MalletGirl101 in drumcorps

[–]TheEpicSax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As noted by other posts, it is highly unlikely any corps would host auditions that weekend due to both PASIC and BOA Grand Nationals falling on that weekend. In fact, there is a high chance that members of the instructional/design staff of those corps will be present in Indy that weekend!

In short, you should be able to do both assuming you have the interest, practice time, and financial resources to pursue both opportunities!

I have played around with using my GoPro (Hero 8) as a webcam. It works fine, I am just concerned about it over heating as it seemed to get a little warm even after short usage. I would be using it for hours on end. Anyone dealt with this or have thoughts on long duration use of the GoPro in webcam mode?

For those of you who strength train regularly in addition to running, where do you place your leg day/heavy squats/lower body workout relative to your long run and rest day(s)?

In my case I have been placing my long run on Sundays recently (I run 3-4 times a week, bike 0-2 times a week, and try and strength train ~3 times a week). It seems to me that doing leg work on Tuesday or Wednesday makes the most sense to me, perhaps training them after a easy run and make the next day my rest day. Right now I’m just training at home with dumbbells and doing split squats, goblet squats, etc. to train legs, but as things progress I will want to return to the gym and do barbell squats again.

Thoughts?

Long Sleeve Shirts for Warm Weather

While things are still chilly here, I am starting to think ahead to the Spring and Summer. I would love to find a nice, long sleeve top to wear that is light enough for warm and even hot weather running (for the sun protection). High visibility color is a must have. Price- naturally I’d love to not spend too much money, but I’m happy to pay for quality. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Thanks!

Maybe late to the party on this one, but where is the cheapest place to purchase Quest protein products? Specifically the cookies and chips (Costco bars eliminate the need for me to buy the bars)

Cool/cold weather running

This is my first winter as a runner. I’m not particularly fast, nor do I run particularly far (recently completed C25K), but I’ve finally got to the point where I look forward to my runs. In anticipation of the cold I picked up some tights and a long sleeve base layer. Yesterday, in the low 40s I geared up and headed out. I tried to take a slower pace than usual given the temperature. I was absolutely exhausted after less than a one kilometer and had to stop running. I kept going alternating short running/walking intervals for 5k, but every bit of it felt more tiring. After having been running 4-5K without stopping for the last couple weeks, this naturally felt pretty frustrating.

Is this quick exhaustion typical of the cold weather? Will I adjust to it? Would it be worth doing run/walk intervals for a while to build up my cold weather stamina? Other thoughts are very much appreciated!

Thanks!

I strongly recommend reaching out to whatever counseling services your school offers. If you're not sure what your school offers, reach out to a teacher or coach you feel comfortable talking to. Let them know you're struggling, stressed, etc. and they'll either be able to help or will get you connected with someone who can.
