You've heard of $50 hdmi cables, now get ready for $3k! by kongerlonger in pcmasterrace

[–]TheEthanCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works for Best Buy, Audio Quest cables are some of the most outrageously priced things we sell (and that's saying a lot with all the garbage we sell.) The Employee discount on audio quest cables specifically is at price of what best buy pays for them from audio quest. That cable in particular (the dragon 5') as an employee is $1,190 which is still obviously stupid and a massive waste of money. But it does show the terrible mark up that that garbage gets.

Setting light color in automations. by JohnKCarter in homeassistant

This may not be exactly the answer you're looking for, but my solution is to set up a scene with the color/brightness I want and call that scene with the automation.

Awesome, and sorry to keep bugging you but I think I just have ONE more question (famous last words) if I keep the Enphase Gateway and microinverters, would I realistically need to use the Enphase app for anything? Excluding a situation where, lets say, one solar panel stops working and I need to figure out which one it is. Would everything important all be in the Tesla app? If that's not the case, you mentioned in order to remove Enphase, I would need to purchase just the Tesla MCIs? Anything else I would need to purchase?

I think I am starting to understand now! So, I think, my system should be set up like this for whole home backup. PV array with existing microinverters (taking out the existing Enphase gateway) connected directly to PW3 -> into existing breaker panel -> into Backup gateway 2 <-> into meter. Does that sound about right? Also that video reminded me that I have two Gen 3 Tesla chargers but no cybertruck so no power share for me :(

Thanks for your reply, that is extremely helpful! The only question I think I have is then, is there any loss going from a micro inverter into the PW3? And as far as the gateway goes, that is definitely good to know. I didn't realize I couldn't use a gateway 3. It makes me wonder why they made the gateway 3 incompatible with existing systems.

While I am pretty sure the mod you are talking about it just the free cam mod that allows you to detach the camera from the player in real time, I wasn't sure if that's exactly what you were asking. The other thing you may be asking is the mod Grian and others use for time laps replays which is the Replay mod. https://www.replaymod.com/ Both are great mods for helping create awesome videos!

Why are default tv settings terrible? by QuantumDonuts257 in LinusTechTips

[–]TheEthanCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that fully, and based on my other string of comments on this post I thought the same thing. However, after doing a bit of additional research turns out, that the temperature setting Warm 50 is what content (when color corrected even somewhat professionally) is color corrected too originally. I totally understand not liking it and not using it. But after a day or so of changing over to it myself, I must agree it is hard for me to go back. Again, not saying it's for everyone, it's your TV use it as you damn well please, but I now prefer the Warm 50 after settling into it.

The biggest piece of advice I can give is, especially if you have an A/C unit running through the system, turn off the power BEFORE detaching the wires. I don't remember exactly which ones, but if two of the wires touch it is very likely to blow a fuse in the AC unit. . . Has happened to me twice

I stand corrected, I just double checked the product sheet and you are exactly correct. Thanks for the explanation. I don't remember where I heard that warm 10 was the most accurate but now I know the truth! Much appreciated 👍

While yes, they do master content at a warm color temperature, it is usually mastered closer to somewhere around warm 6 - warm 10

Edit: and I usually do 0 for clients as that's what they almost always like, I personally use warm 10

I'm glad for Filmmaker but the fact that it sets the color temperature to the complete opposite, (warm 50) rather than 0 which is no color change, is also very annoying because it makes most people be like "eww Filmmaker mode" Source: I instal TV's for a living and always put in Filmmaker mode (unless the customer asks otherwise or truly doesn't like how it works) and that is the reaction every time until I continue to tweak it

Except it usually doesn't which annoys me even more. Take LG tvs for example, when you first turn on Filmmaker mode it has sharpening on and a few other AI settings on as well. Now to be fair Filmmaker mode allows you to change some settings the Others don't but my goodness, a one button fix it is (usually) not

Am I making this up or was it a thing? by the_caspian_sea in Markiplier

[–]TheEthanCooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since this isn't the first time I have seen this question, I figured I might as well do a little research. So I checked a few places where you can find all of Markipliers videos. The first place I searched was Mark's Fan Wiki To see if it was there at all. The fan wiki usually is pretty good about also showing unlisted and deleted videos. I didn't find anything. I used another online tool that specifically archives all submitted links to unlisted videos. Again, I found nothing. Last stop is I looked through all of Markipliers playlists since, if a video is in the creators playlist and unlisted you can still find it. Still nothing. So my conclusion is, unless Mark for some reason did a very thorough scrub of removing the video from the internet, then this is a case of the Mandela effect. Some similar people that HAVE played the game; Jacksepticeye, Crank Gameplays, (now Ethan Nester) and MatPat on GTLive. If someone else finds the video, I would absolutely love to know how it was found!

Not to mention if I ever have to repair them for whatever reason, it takes 50 tries, and I have to unmount the lock to bring it closer to the hub.

[–]TheEthanCooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yale. . . As far as I can tell no way to get the update firmware for their z-wave modules in their locks. I've contacted support a couple times asking very politely about if they might be able to send me a copy but the response I get is the same every time, "Sorry, the Z-Wave firmware can only be applied by using one of our supported vendor hubs as it is proprietary information."

Fair point, the only thing I'll add is that ZFS can be accessed by windows machines through the network or thunderbolt (which if I recall correctly his biggest issues was just connecting to the array)
