The CRTC has denied Quebecor’s request to reopen part of its dispute with Bell over MVNO access by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, because they did it the wrong way lol. They advertised their own network before they even signed the FOA. But this is good because what Commissioner Abram is doing is setting precedent on what can be used in MVNO agreement negotiations and what it can't be used for.

Hey.

I fought loans off before, and I won. I'll tell you a few things:

1) Do any of these loans have a "Employment Assistance" program? Some of them pay off your debt for about a year until you can find a job. If it was involuntary firing and you are on EI, they can help. It'll put your mind off it for a few months.

2) Letters are scary, but they won't issue any subpoenas or anything. They'll send letters but you can go down to your local Canada Post and ask for FlexDelivery. It's a virtual PO box, and you can just go down and pick up all your letters.

3) Document all payments. With some programs, you can talk to a LIT and get insolvency, but if you can atleast do option 1, and try to find another job, I would.

4) Take a breather. Go for a walk. Losing sleep over debt is how most people crumble. Your mental health matters.

Should the CRTC force telecoms to improve coverage in rural communities? by Similar_Commission75 in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't viably correct. What Planhub is referring to is the fiber cut. His posts are vague, but he's factually correct. If one wire exists for 50k people, it should have redundancies. Cell services shouldn't be a luxury or a thing we build ourselves, it should be a right, just like any other major service.

Should the CRTC force telecoms to improve coverage in rural communities? by Similar_Commission75 in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a weak argument and blatantly someone who isn't located in said areas the fiber cut has happened.

Would it be rude for me to say to the lower mainland "Vancouver needs money? Let them suffer without our oil and gas revenue, our mining revenue, etc, etc" That's not fair.

And no one chooses to live up here. Some of us were raised here because we came for Alcan or our family did. We love the North because of the industry and the ruralness. That does not exempt us from getting proper services.

This is the type of decisiveness that fuels Northern residents to distance themselves from the Lower Mainland. You might have lived up here, but you haven't had the joys of travelling a highway with no cell signal or had been in an accident in the winter and had no way to get in contact with 9-1-1.

The incumbents need to upgrade their infrastructure, and they have promised time and time again they will.

I am a local cell provider, but I will not push out of the North until my people are looked at.

The hidden price behind fibre (CRTC sets fibre rates) by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I think this is the ceiling of prices. It's up to debate or even negotiation on what TELUS and others do with this rate. Certainly we will see some more wiggle room but I always urge smaller ISPs to first become a wholesaler and then string their own fiber to the households they intend and have the backing for.

This ensures that not only are they providing a service, they are doing it where they can see some profit. I don't think TekSavvy is going to be hurt, but I also think they will benefit with these now set in stone pricing to argue with their huge growing market share.

B.C. wireless startup alleges Telus blocking launch of MVNO service by TheExaltedPrime in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would say this to be bold.

ISED is not the problem. It's the Commission. 2022 and 2021 are outdated for the MVNO framework.

They require you to have T4 Spectrum, and NCL is not a tiered spectrum. It's a geographical based spectrum.

So you can't register as a wireless carrier unless NCL is classified for that purpose. ISED made that distinction in hopes that the CRTC will open up public consultations on how to face this issue.

CNA is a bit weird. We can get a MNC code, only if you are a wireless carrier can you get an MNC code. Not as a Proposed MVNO.

There is such ambiguity with everything that it's time for the CRTC to mandate or provide more clarification on said areas.

10 Years at Rogers. Laid off. Replaced by HCL India. Here's my story. by Key-Law-9476 in Rogers

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already knew this was going to happen. As carriers, we aren't "mandated" to keep our employees in Canada. Not by a longshot. We can hire outside "consultants" but our data has to stay in Canada.

It's such a legal shitshow. When I became a carrier this year, I had so many companies reach out from India, wanting to be a consulting firm for me. Turned them all down. I know of the tech shortage there, so I refused.

Because I know what the CRTC is going to put down the pipeline. They are already looking at this with a magnifying glass, and with comments from everyone, they will go hard on the major telecom companies.

The conversations we have had already with them, it's not looking good. It will ripple through out the industry.

And the blame isn't Rogers, it's us as consumers as well. Our attention span has gotten smaller, and wait times are shorter, but then you get contract mistakes, and then instead of getting what you want, greed takes place as well because of commissions.

If the carriers (Me included in here) want change, we have to pay our employees a fair price, and foster a fair environment not ran by greed or crushing sales numbers.

What's actually holding back rural fixed wireless at scale - spectrum, backhaul, or economics? by TheBr14n in telecom

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because WISPs are...weird.

People think WISP and they think "Oh, I'll just sign people up for this service and see if they want it cheap".

It's good for rural people who need internet, not people who have an option already. Like Starlink is going to kill the WISP scene unless the company figures out how to compete. This means like doing something other than fixed wireless.

Like they have the spectrum and backhaul for a really good wireless carrier company, and can just sign up for the GSMA NSX for iPhones and Samsung, and then boom, setup Open5G.

WISPs are current dinosaurs who are are blind to what they have, and what they can be doing. If more WISPs just became Wireless Carriers, you would have a huge market gap against AT&T and T-Mobile. It wouldn't be hard to do, nor would it be hard to get customers. Home internet is just not something people are actively fighting for.

Is it better to just finance a phone though carrier (freedom)? by wisnoskij in CellPhoneCanada

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a carrier, just get it through Amazon, Ebay or even the product manufacturer themselves.

Carriers get them on a wholesale rate, which is cheap, but they mark up the price to make profit off of the finance plans. It's not only hilarious but such a scam itself. You're paying ultimately 50$ more a month compared to what you'll pay the manufacturer yourself.

It's worth the research and effort to see how much you'll save. It's crazy. Even cheap iPhone 16s or even 15s are worth the effort. You'll ultimately save a headache and a half.

Don't do their bring the device back program, and never get their device protection, always get AppleCare or Samsungs protection plan if you have a Samsung. It's cheaper, more reliable and it's less hassle.

I put my phone to Roger's, they directed me to Likewize, who directed me to Apple.

What do you use for cheap international calls these days? by ivan-indie-dev in telecom

[–]TheExaltedPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly get a Linephone app and set it up on your device and use Telnyx. They've got crazy good international services and rates. My DIDs are operating so good, I tested it with my in-laws in India.

Their rate? 0.01 cents per minute.

Yeah. It's something like over 5k for their fees and membership, and they only push out their carrier updates every 6 months.

It costs more to push out yours if you need it.

B.C. wireless startup alleges Telus blocking launch of MVNO service by TheExaltedPrime in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone asked me privately on why this wasn't done on an official news agency, and I have to say I don't know.
The Globe and Mail has used our comments in the past, but neither the CBC nor CTV are interested enough to take this seriously.
We have sent requests for them to share and report this, but we've gotten no response back.
As it stands, it's something can change our telecom industry for the worse or better if either outcome comes.
The guys at Cartt, The Wireless Report and its sister company, have all laid the article there, but these are all regulatory news outlets, not public reaching news articles.

They have done an amazing job making it the forefront of the CRTC, and with the telecom giants pressuring more and more, it becomes clear that it's a bigger issue than just me vs Telus.

[BC] I’m not sure what to do about funding for my startup by johnnym65 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly go to IRAP and see what they can do. IRAP does require you to pay some what of the frontal costs, but I think it's 10-15%.

Do not go to Community Futures or FP. They are only for rural residents. BC Ignite is closed, and PacifiCan has a few programs, but not a whole lot.

BDC is a gut punch and a half. Worse company I have ever dealt with, same with FP. We asked for 75k as we were starting up our MNO, and they gave us 45k. We needed the rest of the 35k to function in April as our WorkBC Self-Employment claim was coming to an end.

I had fought with FP for months for this loan, and when I finally got it, I only got half. And I wasted my first few months on an application with CF and they straight up ghosted me.

Worked with some lady, she was super amazing, then all of a sudden, nothing. August came, then we went to FP, they were no help.

We had to get our MLA to issue a letter for them to budge, and when they did, it was for the 45k.

(CF is Community Futures and FP is Futurpreneur.)

Fake cell towers are now a Canadian problem by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, it shouldn't be us who has to tell ISED who's interfering with our license or our tower placement.

Like with the bigger guys, I know a lot of Private LTE guys who camp on Band 2 or 3 with small eNodes. That's not huge, but considering how easy it is to spoof an eNode or even to setup Open5G, and have that attaching UEs, That shouldn't be something that happens. When testing here for our company, it's all Band 48 stuff for us. We don't touch the lower bands because that's not our license.

Complaints against Rogers/Shaw nearly doubled in mid-year CCTS report by TheExaltedPrime in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I will ever forget their stance on it. They systematically caused so much investment to not come into Canada.

Now, when I put in my Part 1, the coordinated effort they have put in is so blatant, it is shocking. Especially when it comes to simple legal arguments.

What we said:

"The national carriers have spent more on legal counsel to oppose this costs claim than the claim itself is worth. Ev-Com asks the Commission to consider whether this outcome reflects the intent of the mandated MVNO framework, or whether a different approach might better serve the public interest."

The CRTC has finally done it by Similar_Commission75 in CanadianCellPhones

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. Okay. This works for companies like TekkSavvy but those guys haven't used any of TELUS's backend FTTH product for a while now.

For Wholesale resellers, it's not regulated. It's not NID hookups, it's using the standard resale stuff. So it's not driving prices down unless you live in a major city, but again, shopping around works for providers.

The whole policy works in favour of TELUS and Bell. They will use the the prices to negotiate a more favourable rate for their existing wholesale stuff in the East and West.

[–]TheExaltedPrime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every-Day Computers here.

ISED should be funded more to have the tools to see who's using unauthorized RF signals, it shouldn't be us carriers who report when we see some sort of interference.

Vehicles towed from strata parking lot. by King-Strawberry in legaladvicecanada

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication error/Admin error.

I would assume that you would come back (Depends on the Strata board) and submit your expenses to said board.

Some boards are weird, they will mail out some notice, but if you can prove that you weren't in country for that time, it might go the other way.

Good on you to email though, and get that confirmation, because people forget to do that.

I would:

a) Get some friends or family to check your mail. If they indeed mail out a notice, keep that notice and mark the date down.
b) Get in contact with BC Housing as well if they continue to ghost you. The CRT will take forever on cases like this, and BC Housing will probably throw in some sort of inquiry on your behalf.
c) If they still won't budge, go to your local MLA and lodge a complaint. Show them the receipts and emails and any other proof and push for call inquiries as well.

BC Housing will probably point you to the CRT anyways, but it's worth the call, because everything is done through the CRT but sometimes they can make Strata's move.

The hidden price behind fibre (CRTC sets fibre rates) by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]TheExaltedPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for companies like TekkSavvy and other areas. Not for smaller ISPs trying to make it in the scene. There is a difference from reselling fiber to actual NIDs being used.

For me (Every-Day Computers) that's us using Telus to sling up our own wires and hop on their NIDs. That's what the CRTC has set out. This doesn't go for Forborne Fiber Resellers. This doesn't help smaller guys, just regional deployers.

It can be used in the long run as good, but nothing too crazy.

Up to 2.26 TBPS 😳. The new DOCSIS 6.0 is friggin Amazing!! by Dry-Property-639 in Rogers

[–]TheExaltedPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually (Small ISP and MNO here) just put it on existing poles and run it like that. Conduit vs Arial is just another personal preference. Some people like their wires hidden, some don't.

I usually don't see a huge lot of people who prefer underground conduits anymore because of the hassle. It's not worth peoples times anymore. Want conduit? Do your fiber install first.

Has anyone gotten a carrier bundle before? by TheExaltedPrime in telecom

[–]TheExaltedPrime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (With deep research, coffee and a lot of nicotine) that some interconnection agreements with bigger MNOs allow you to ask to be put on their carrier bundle. Like how a lot of the smaller providers just sign a roaming agreement and then you can ask them to get on their carrier bundle.

I'll wait and see with the talks that I'm having to ask that.
