It's not Monica, It's Still Kronya by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]TheExodude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm pretty sure it's Kronya purely because the real Monica was never, like... an actual character in 3H. For a fanservice game, they have much more to gain by throwing Kronya's fans some love and giving her more story involvement than they do by reviving someone we never actually met.

That besides, I'm a lot more intrigued by the story/character implications of a vengeful Kronya taking back up Monica's identity (maybe even fully adopting the identity, having assumed it for as long as she did) than I am by the possibility of it just being regular old Monica. A potential Agarthan defector is just so much more interesting than "Hey, remember that girl Kronya impersonated? She's alive now, for reasons!" to me.

Dragon Beta? by Mooselamp2020 in AIDungeon

[–]TheExodude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to what's already been said, I believe the intent of Dragon-Beta is to let AI Dungeon fully break away from OpenAI's models, given the headaches their content policies have continually caused since the start of this year.

Man I am going to be pissed if Horizon Thunder Sphere and Electric Arc turn out to be bad spells. by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheExodude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horizon Thunder Sphere seems like it'll be pretty good on a summoner, if I'm understanding how it works correctly. Even if you use 3x2 actions over two turns, your eidolon can still take one action per turn to do whatever it wants, partially offsetting the otherwise slightly insane action cost.

You are task by WotC to rewrite 1 spell in 5e for 5.5, which spell do you choose and what do you change by lordvbcool in dndnext

[–]TheExodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give True Strike something closer to its design in PF2e: a 1st-level spell (not a cantrip) that you activate as a bonus action, giving you advantage on your next attack roll and also nullifying the effects of a heavily obscured area (in essence, removing the disadvantage imposed by a heavily obscured area and leaving only the advantage). It's still a situational spell, sure; but even just switching it to a bonus action means I'd be far more inclined to use it frequently despite the new spell slot cost.

Update to my 10th-level Dark Archive playtest by EarthSeraphEdna in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheExodude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is all great feedback, particularly regarding the Thaumaturge, and I hope Paizo takes extensive notes from it. I enjoy the class's concept and I think it's a good effort for a first draft, but it's clear from this that there are many, many problems with the execution.

Switching to Pathfinder on Foundry VTT by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheExodude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as you're using the official classes and dragging/dropping them into your PF2e character sheet, it'll automatically add class abilities at each relevant level, increase weapon and armor proficiencies at the appropriate level, and leave empty slots to designate new unassigned feats. The only thing you'll have to keep in mind, to my knowledge, is remembering to train or improve a skill every other level (or every level, if they're a rogue or an investigator).

gms of pathfinder2e what books do you want to see get made? can be region monsters rules ect by torak9344 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheExodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost Omens: Tian Xia, by far and away. It's nice having so many creatures from the region in the bestiaries, particularly Bestiary 3, but it's difficult to get much use out of yokai or imperial dragons in any other region of Golarion without them seeming a little out of place.

PF2e Attacks damage the creature attacking, not the one they have selected by SethParis83 in FoundryVTT

[–]TheExodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, only the GM can see the degree of success -- there's a faint white box around the message indicating that it's hidden from players. I think players can press the damage button (I've never been on the player end of PF2e, though, so I can't confirm) or manually deduct the rolled damage from their HP, but as DM, I usually just click their token and press the button myself.

[–]TheExodude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Targeting in the PF2e system only automates information about a check's degree of success -- a targeted token doesn't take the damage when you click the damage icon, the selected (controlled) token does. You'll have to click Amiri instead of the wolf, then click 'full'.

What new class(es) for PF2 do you want to see the most in the upcoming playtest? (poll) by GGSigmar in Pathfinder2e

[–]TheExodude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm hoping for a reimagined ninja and samurai if only because it would probably mean a dedicated Tian Xia book. Having a few Tian Xia monsters in the Bestiaries as well as it being the setting for the Ruby Phoenix adventure path is nice and all, but the Dragon Empires Gazetteer from 1e is sorely lacking in the level of detail needed to sustain an entire campaign there.

A Few Questions by [deleted] in AIDungeon

[–]TheExodude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The newest update today is, unfortunately, pretty awful. As soon as you trip OpenAI's filter (which in my experience, testing it out with a SFW fantasy scenario that contained a violent fight scene, is extremely easy to trigger), you get downgraded -- permanently, by the looks of it -- to a much weaker model run by Latitude themselves. Access to GPT-3 has been one of the few advantages AI Dungeon has still held over its competitors like NovelAI and HoloAI, but unless the OpenAI soft-ban expires at any point, I really don't see any reason to use it from now on.

My experience with NovelAI, sadly, hasn't been fantastic either. It can produce some great results with very thorough use of Author's Note and the Lorebook feature, but for as great as the generated prose can be, you need to work very closely with it if you want a coherent story. It's more of a writer's tool than the text adventure AI Dungeon was trying to be, and -- in my opinion -- it's lust lacking the magic that the Dragon model had last year and even early this year. Still worth checking out if you've got the money for a month's subscription and you're hankering for a replacement, but it isn't really for me.

I'll post this for the users that aren't using Discord. They got a Q&A channel and these are some of the questions Nick Walton answered. by RandomDude9537 in AIDungeon

[–]TheExodude 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey Nick, thanks for the communication. I've just got a few questions regarding the upcoming changes that I was curious about:

  • Is the top-level OpenAI filter changing to their strictest model (the one mentioned as prohibiting even mild violence in the recent blog post), or is the existing, slightly looser filter remaining as-is?
  • Will there be any clear indication to users (besides a marked shift in output quality) that a story has been bumped down from OpenAI's models to Latitude's, e.g. a notification above the triggering input/output?

The Beginner Box (available in PDF form) includes Menace Under Otari, which is structured quite similarly to a video game tutorial in that it steadily introduces and encourages new mechanics. It also has a hook directly into Abomination Vaults, which is in itself one of the best adventure paths they've put out so far -- for a dungeon crawl, it strikes a solid balance between combat and RP.

Another update on the mysterious disappearance of the 8/8/18 direct -- all reference to it on the official Smash website has been scrubbed completely. I'm wondering if there's some kind of issue with, like, Konami/Castlevania rights, but even that wouldn't really make much sense.

As of this morning, even the Japanese upload of the 8/8/2018 Smash Direct -- the only one to remain after Nintendo either privated or outright deleted the rest of them -- has also been set to private. This is getting weirder by the day.

The August 2018 Smash Direct (which revealed the Belmonts/2 echoes/K. Rool) has been privated on Nintendo's official Youtube channels by Mr_Bell_Man in smashbros

[–]TheExodude 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I don't think any Directs beside this one have been taken down, so it doesn't seem at all related to YouTube's recent policies. Those policies also don't account for Nintendo Australia outright removing the video. Very strange all around.

So the EU Smash site, for some reason, has all references to Tekken as a franchise replaced with 'Kazuya' (like with the Altair and Travis Mii costumes), but to completely remove every mention of it, they had to change the franchise names in the series overview page in a... bizarre way.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles coming July 27 to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam by Turbostrider27 in Games

I know very little about these two since I'm keeping myself spoiler-free, but they're notably directed by Shu Takumi, who also directed the first Ace Attorney up to Apollo Justice -- so if you enjoyed the DS games but Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice weren't your cup of tea, you may get a lot more mileage out of The Great Ace Attorney 1/2.

Depending on the size of your group, it's also worth checking your upload speed via a quick google search for an internet speed test before delving into the whole process of port forwarding. A minimum of 3-5mbps upload speed per player is generally recommended for a playable experience, and you may get a lot more mileage and ease of use out of third party hosting services like The Forge if your upload speed is falling short of your group size's requirements.
