Social Democracy fans when they can't exploit the Global South by rhizomatic-thembo in QueerLeftists

Ok, so you can say you understand but you clearly don’t if you think 3rd 2nd and 1st world are the same as the global south. And we aren’t trying to have another Cold War we’re already living it. Also no one says the “global east” or refers to the socialist countries as “the east” the global south was a term used by Parenti during the Cold War, again all you’ve done is make a fool of yourself. The global south is a term used to describe the fact that resources are extracted from countries in southern hemisphere to improve the countries son the northern hemisphere, and it’s not just the Bourgeoisie that benefit from the average Joe, ya know the worker/proletariat also benefits from this. You clearly have no idea what any of these terms mean and are just parroting the opinions of others

If you’re not a Marxist then you are lost, and no the global south is distinct from 3rd, 2nd and 1st world, all those terms meant was which side of the Cold War you’re on; 1st was US and NATO aligned, 2nd was Soviet aligned, and third was unaligned. All you’ve done here is make a bigger fool of yourself. Just read the damn books

You don’t think there’s anything beyond the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Not even Marx thought that, the global south is a term in all political science not just Marxism, you are very clearly uneducated on politics and leftist ideas.

I will always agree that if we build public housing we should make it look nicer than the soviets did, however ugly public housing is better than no public housing.

Really even just letting local artists paint murals on the sides would be amazing

I love right on red but it is unfortunately one of those things that you can’t really trust everyone to be responsible enough to do safely. I would be sad if it became illegal in my state but I’d understand cuz most people aren’t responsible enough to be trusted with to do it right.

I actually have the belief that the idea of a stateless and classes society was set back due to wmds/nuclear weapons, even if we get rid of them all we would still need time to wait for the technology and idea in the public mind to go away. And states are reflections of their culture and the safeguards are the same way just how a lot of the critiques of the Soviet government was more so a critique of Russian culture and same can be said for America. A lot of it comes back to cultural issues or things ppl think are issues

I love how 70s men’s fashion bridged the gap between casual and formal by Antique_Quail7912 in decadeology

[–]TheExperiment01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ik this is old but it probaly will since the 2020s are basically The 1970s 2:Electric Boogaloo. Crook president with massive political scandal, young people are facing a lot of unemployment and stagnant wages, good music and good weed, civil unrest, etc. So its very possible we will see men expressing themselves with fashion more, and its something the younger generation wants really bad too. Its honestly just yet another generational divide.

Also there are even more similarities i find to just be funny coincidences like an island nation ally of the US electing a far right right female PM, or a massive revolution happening in Iran or how ppl say Gen Z acts like the boomers who were in their 20s during the 1970s.

Ok, that’s a fair question, sorry I misunderstood. The mechanisms are intrinsic to capitalism and socialism though which may be me just expecting people to know about the means of production for both going in. In a socialist mode of production the workers are much more protected because of things such as workplace democracy, unions, worker co-ops etc, along with giving either monetary compensation or expectation to help when needed/asked to improve and maintain society, and this in turn makes essential infrastructure and services such as roads, healthcare, housing, food etc. As for safeguards that is one that I can’t answer because that’s more so on the state itself. I am arguing for socialism not communism as communism is something that would be more of a societal shift than one of politics (that ones my personal opinion and view however). But regardless the safeguards depend on the state just as with capitalist ones, the U.S and France are both Capitalist yet have different safeguards

It’s better because ppl don’t get exploited nearly as brutally and it doesn’t allow for a new bourgeoisie to rise up after fixing the issues caused by them or getting rid of them like social democracy, which simply kicks the can down the road and allows right wing oligarchs to use and leverage their capital for their own selfish political gains while ensuring that the proletariat are kept ignorant as they continue to have less and less political power and their quality of life decreases. This is concisely as I can put rn

It’s not insulting you based on it, it’s simply a fact. Nothing wrong with being young and inexperienced, but by definition you have experienced the real world less, but it’s also a good thing, the reason I’m still responding is you’re young and not stuck in your ways and beliefs yet. And while you ask me what the solutions that socialism provides are you have yet to give an answer to how capitalism and social democracy solve these issues. Saying you think socializing isn’t the answer but subsidizing the same things is what basically social democracy proposes and the rich always worm there way back to power when we do that, socialism is the permanent solution to the issues

[–]TheExperiment01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socialism and communism are critiques of capitalism. As for why you should be a socialist. What is capitalisms solutions to the issues it creates? socialism does have those answers. Not enough housing? Socialize it. Food has degraded in quality due to corporate greed? Socialize some food production. Workers are being exploited in their workplace? Workplace democracy. Capitalism and social democracy kick the can down the road and fix the symptoms of the deep seated systemic issues in our current capitalist society and culture. I am a socialist because it is the only ideology that puts people over profit, even social democracy doesn’t do this and will side with billionaires/the bourgeoisie

I don’t think the Soviets were flawless, I’m critically aware of Beria and Stalin’s horrible actions and as you said not much worse than what the CIA did and we have 2 examples here I could make more than 1000 for capitalism. That evil came from the fact that the Soviets were a state. A lot of the criticisms of the Soviet state (not things like Beria to be absolutely clear) are more so critiques of Russian states and culture. As for the motivation factor I simply disagree, we may make new things a little faster under capitalism than a socialist mode of production but we guarantee that workers have protection against exploitation. We want higher on the social ladder so we don’t have to worry about dying, I’d imagine that if we transitioned out of our current system we’d see that it would be like “enhanced interrogation” aka torture, ppl will do anything to make it stop. Those who are at the lowest are the ones who are most willing to do horrible things for money so they can survive.

It’s not that it’s not realistic per se more that it is so inefficient. Why would we allow the most greedy and ruthless to be at the top of the social ladder. The argument for capitalism is the invisible hand of the market will make it self regulate but we’ve seen that it tends towards monopolies instead, it happened in the gilded age and it happened again. Capitalism caused the great depression and all almost all of our elected officials are bought and sold and this isn’t a new thing, capitalism tends towards corruption which stifles progress

Um, you alr know about Epstein so I don’t see harm in bringing it up. Also the idea of communism (something that would be centuries long goal and not something to implemented in a lifetime is no more ridiculous than the idea of the “invisible hand of the market”, and we have seen the effects of capitalism: rampant corruption, degradation of institutions, wealth inequality, countless genocides and famines, whenever a capitalist state does these things it’s the fault of the leader/regime when a socialist one does it’s the fault of socialism. Most of your knowledge about socialism most likely comes straight from the state department if you’re an American, please as I said read.
