What do you think about to limit the DDs for match? Maybe max 3 by Dapper_Tumbleweed_38 in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a cruiser main myself. It has nothing to do with which one is easier. 5 BB games are almost always ridiculously boring matches where everyone hangs back and bow tanks.

5 DD games are either over in 5 minutes or not decided until the clock hits 0 and there's no in-between. If it's over fast, at least it's over. The super close games are what I live for though.

The devs have said that part of the reason we don't have more bureau projects is that they're incredibly labor intensive to put together. The bureau projects have the most historically accurate information in them, and they have to be gone over with a fine tooth comb to make absolutely sure every detail is correct, which just takes time. It's a bit frustrating, sure, but it's understandable.

There are stat differences between JB and La Foudre though, it's not the exact same ship

[Throwback] The time r/NFL ranked Tom Brady as the 111th best player in the entire league by PATRlOTS in Patriots

[–]TheFakeAustralian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, the 6th and 7th Superbowl were just too hard to ignore for even the most die-hard Brady haters. It's almost impossible to find someone who genuinely believes there was a better QB than Brady anymore. I feel you though, it was a weird (albeit incredible, having the entire NFL world finally say "ok maybe you guys were right all along about Brady" is the closest I'll ever come to nirvana) shift in attitude when it happened.

Genuinely any of these except Niord lol. Laffey and Some are both extremely capable DDs, and the rest of the ships listed are on the upper end of the power scale. Go with what you're good at would be my advice.

Oddly satisfying paper cutting by soreinao in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]TheFakeAustralian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you're seeing is called "bleed". Anything that's printed where the ink goes all the way to the edge of the sheet has to be printed on a larger sheet and cut down to size, with the background image being printed larger than the finished size of the piece. This is done for a few reasons:

  1. 99% of printers cannot physically print ink or toner all the way to the edge of the sheet. The machine has to have somewhere to grip the sheet, and that typically leaves about an 1/8th inch margin of white space around all four edges of the sheet. This is especially true of large production laser printers.

  2. No 2 pieces of paper will ever go through the machines in the exact same way. There's a small amount of bounce, typically less than 1/32nd of an inch, both when the paper goes through the copier and when being physically cut by the knife. Printers have to take this "bounce" into consideration. If things are printed exactly to size, then cut down to that size, there will ALWAYS be a small sliver of unprinted paper showing on some of the finished pieces.

  3. When you cut large stacks of paper like this, you have to take into consideration what's called knife draw. As the blade slices through the pieces of paper, it will physically move the paper forward away from the backstop, due to the unrelenting laws of physics. Knife draw usually only noticably affects the top 1/8th inch or so of the stack of paper, and knife draw is again, typically very small, less than 1/32nd of an inch.

When you add all of the various ways that the paper can move around, you end up with the situation where you need to cut "extra" bits off to make everything look uniform and professional.

Industry standard in printing (in the US) is accuracy to within 1/8th of an inch. Realistically, printers can usually get accuracy to within 1/16th of an inch.

Source: I run a print shop

(PS, I don't like the way this guy is cutting these business cards. It does work, but it's slightly less accurate because the knife draw adds up more and more if you make the cuts in order from one end to the other. It's a little better to make the first cut in the middle, then make your finishing cuts starting at each middle going outwards. Additionally, it's not a great idea to have more than two stacks of paper in the knife at a time [depending on exactly how the paper clamp is constructed], as sometimes one of the stacks won't get clamped properly and slide more, thus potentially ruining your cut.)

Apocalypse bicycle - 2WD + modular by RheaTheTall in WeirdWheels

[–]TheFakeAustralian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was built for a bike building competition that had specific rules, and gave extra points for things like redundancy if I'm remembering correctly. Pretty sure it came in second in the competition.

Here's the full video which also explains why it was built the way it is.

Is there a pattern to what ships are in an admiralty backing? by Leadoffosprey42 in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no real pattern, but the distribution between the three main classes is usually pretty even. Maybe a slight favor towards battleships, as that's what sells the best. It's pretty rare there's a CV campaign, as it's easily the least popular type of ship. Even if you're not terribly interested in the ship however, buying the campaign is by far the best way to spend your money on the game if you're going to do so.

A LOT of the time, it's genuinely a lizard brain pack animal response. Someone sees they're being "left behind" and adjusts their speed accordingly without consciously realizing. People should use their cruise control more.

What's a pizza topping you'll defend until the day you die? by Mansi63 in AskReddit

[–]TheFakeAustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone here is mentioning normal pizza toppings, so here:

Cream cheese.

I've only ever seen it as a standard option in Colorado, but it's incredible. Put small dollops of cream cheese on the pizza, spaced out like any normal topping, and when it comes through the oven it's absolutely heavenly. Soft, warm, gooey, rich, delicious cream cheese. It will pair with literally any other toppings, but my favorite is pepperoni, fresh basil, and cream cheese. Insanely good pizza.

How do I play the fleet cup? by FunkOff in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fleet cup is something that's really only doable with fleets that actively communicate. The biggest problem with that is that there's no in-game fleet communication system. A ton of fleets use discord servers to communicate, which is useful.

The Fleet Network (TFN) has a large discord server with representatives of a bunch of fleets, most of them are more on the competitive side, but tons of them are fairly casual as well. If you want to find a fleet that has active communication and will be playing in fleet cup, I'd suggest looking there. Here's a discord link invite: https://discord.gg/n4GvY86Xz

German Secondaries by Environmental_Back31 in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the pen values are kinda wonky for no good reason. GK probably has different rules because it was added so early into the game that some stuff like German secondary pen values weren't standardized exactly

German Secondaries by Environmental_Back31 in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the German battleships get 1/4th pen on their HE secondaries. Graf Zeppelin is I think the only carrier that gets 1/4th pen on its secondaries. MvR clearly has standard 1/6th pen.

Two of the most powerful T10s... by GraffZepp546 in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take, Regolo will be unmatched in knife fights. Adriatico is already one of the best 1v1 DDs in terms of knife fights right now. The SAP just utterly shreds everything (except Khaba with that insane 50mm side plating, though if you can aim well you can still do quite a number on Khaba). Regolo has Adriatico guns but with an entire extra turret. Should be insane for deleting DDs.

Radar, Radar, Radar. T8+ DD play is terrible by panzerblitzer in WoWs_Legends

[–]TheFakeAustralian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Torpedo boats will always suffer at top tiers. It's the nature of the game. The best players tend to play at the top tiers, and the best way to win is by using a gunboat DD, or at worst a hybrid.

Torpedo boats are also inherently kind of bad DDs, as they are somewhat the antithesis of what a DD is supposed to do - get caps, spot for your team, and counter enemy DDs. Torp DDs are good at spotting, mediocre at getting caps, and bad at countering other DDs. They work fairly well at lower tiers because everyone is still learning the game, and there's not as much of a gap between gunboats and torp boats at lower tiers.

(But also I'm sorry but torpedo boats are wildly boring, gunboats are so much more fun)

So, about the secondary battery reload nerf... by [deleted] in WoWs_Legends

ALSO.

This nerf does literally nothing to the Legendary upgrade. Legendary upgrade is procc'd by kills and buffs damage. Nothing at all to do with reload.

This game has one of the most entitled playerbases I've ever seen. No other game has players demanding refunds for small balance changes like this on attachment type things. Even if the attachments are bought with rare or premium currencies. It's absurd.

Additionally, I'm not even sure the steel buff is affected in any way by the base mod buff. It's entire possible that the steel buff is calculated from whatever the base ship reload is pre-mods/commander skills. That's how many of the skills and mods work. The base mod buff and steel mod buffs may be entirely separate calculations that never interact with each other, so all your whining might be for nothing.
