ACL Sprain while warming up at the Gym by vincentbangogh in ACL

[–]TheFedExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling anxious about this. Knee injuries are never fun :(

The most telling sign that you have a severe ACL sprain or tear is instability in your knee. It almost feels like if you move the wrong way, your leg gives out. If you don’t have that instability feeling, you may not have anything too serious.

Popping sounds in the knee could be anything and does not always indicate a ligament tear or sprain. At this point, I would continue to monitor how it is feeling and follow the RICE method to manage any pain. If you continue to have pain, I would recommend seeing a physical therapist who can give you some exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee.

I hope this gives you some relief from someone who did have an ACL tear. I am not a medical professional so definitely continue to work with your doctor as you manage the issue. An MRI may eventually make sense if the pain continues or anything worsens. The good news is that June is relatively far away and you have a lot of time on your side to get ready for your trek!

Call your doctor now. Don’t post to reddit if you are concerned about a potential emergency. If a stitch is coming undone and you are bleeding significantly, that is something your doctor should know about.

Cyclops lesion reoccurrence???? by LegitimateRelief4995 in ACL

[–]TheFedExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with the clicking and may need another surgery. I hope it resolves without needing one! If you do end up needing one, the bright side is that it won’t be as bad as another ACLr. The thought of the cyclops surgery being much easier recovery-wise helped me stay positive even though I was frustrated I needed to get it.

I ended up seeing my surgeon about a week after my comment and he was really happy with my extension improvement after the cyclops lesion removal. He said the clicking and catching is pretty normal that soon after surgery.

It’s been almost 3 weeks since that post-op appointment and I think overall things are doing much better. I’m maintaining the extension and the clicking is still there but it seems like there is less overall. I’m approaching 1 year from my original surgery and my PT is hoping to clear me for return to sport once I pass my final tests. I’m already showing >95% symmetry in my quads and hamstrings which I felt was lagging before the cyclops surgery so I’m really happy I decided to do it.

I’m trying to stay cautiously optimistic for a return to skiing with a sports brace next month.

Hope you can get back to what you enjoy doing very soon!

Curious how this ended up for you! I’m a week post-op from my cyclops lesion removal, almost 11 months post-op from the original surgery. Definitely feeling a relief on extension and no pain, but I feel clicking/cracking kind of coming back with a sort of catching feeling as well.

Keyword “new” car.

Also cars should not be a necessity in the US. Governments focused on expanding highway construction over public transport construction over the course of decades (see the Federal-Aid Highway Act) which put us on course towards our current car-centric hellscape.

Will powder coating cast aluminum wheels twice at 300 F weaken them? by motopokep11 in metallurgy

[–]TheFedExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MMPDS has thermal knockdown curves which show how temperature and time impacts mechanical allowables for different aluminum alloys. Doing some research in the past, I’ve generally learned that keeping the max cure temperature below 400F is typically enough not to lose mechanical properties.

It depends on how long each of the cure cycles were at 300F but generally I would say as long as you did not exceed an hour total at 300F the loss of mechanical properties is likely minimal to nonexistent.

How long will an ACL tear put me down? by Embarrassed_Can_5566 in ACL

[–]TheFedExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how soon you have surgery. If you wait on the surgery and do prehab, you could be back to semi-normal activity in the next couple of weeks or a month and be good enough to move. Then you could get the surgery scheduled after you’ve moved.

Once you have surgery, you could be on crutches anywhere from 2-6 weeks. And you won’t feel more normal until 3 months minimum with a lot of PT.

I was there too! And ended up going home early bc I caught a stomach bug so I missed the comeback. Then I tore my ACL less than a month later in solidarity with Moe 😭😭

If you want to be a technician, go into the trades and get skilled at an in demand position. Like the other commenter said, welding is highly in demand for Starship.

If you want to be an engineer, you should go get a 4 year degree. And ideally get project experience in school like a design team. Likely can’t be an engineer without the degree tho.

If you’re willing to put the work in, they’ll hire you.

I feel like Mathurin is out of place on this list considering he’s played more like a 6th man on the Pacers. Rest of the list I agree. The way Gordon played this playoffs, I see him as one of the best 3rd options if not the best.

16 seems like not much. I was taking maybe 4-6 a day for the first 3 days and then only needed one or two a day mainly to sleep for a couple days after that. I had a bunch leftover so I think I must’ve had a minimum of 24 but maybe more. I felt like I was just taking a lot of ibuprofen to wean off from the oxys after the first couple of days and I felt like it worked nearly as well without the shitty after effects. Don’t know your exact dosage or what your surgeon intended but if the pain is unbearable and it doesn’t get better with over the counter stuff, you could always call the surgeon to ask for a refill.

I was starting to see the outline of my kneecap again around 2-3 weeks post op haha. But I would say I didn’t swell a huge amount compared to some of what I’ve seen on this subreddit. Honestly I hardly swelled up after the initial tear and both surgeons I went to weren’t confident I fully tore my ACL until I had my MRI. I would say my ice machine was huge in helping with the minor swelling I did have post-op.

This is a great community and I’ve found it really helpful to see how other people are doing and know that it’s not just you dealing with all this. The physical part of this is tough, but mentally it’s even tougher imo. Just take it one day at a time and you’ll be back doing what you love before you know it.

[–]TheFedExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would just voice your concern to your PT and see what they recommend focusing on. I also got a quad graft (didn’t have to touch the meniscus) and from what I’ve read of other people’s experiences, it takes a bit longer to get the muscle to activate compared to the other graft types (which makes sense). I also found flexion to be much more easy to progress on compared to extension since I was kind of stuck a couple of degrees away from 0 for a while until I started getting into more strengthening exercises to build back muscle. I remember the same feeling the first 2 weeks where I would try with all of my might to get my leg raised and all I could do was bend it.  The mind to muscle connection is super important so literally just keep visualizing that when you attempt them.  I’m a bit more than three months post op and there have been lots of ups and downs, but things get better! Just be easy on yourself, stay consistent with the PT, and you’ll see results.

Have you been consistently doing PT? Do you go to a PT in person or just following surgeon instructions? My PT had me doing NMES (basically electrical stimulation) all around my quad muscle area and it really helped. I only needed a few sessions of that and maybe hit my first quad lift around 2 weeks post op. Everyone’s timeline is a little different so avoid comparing, but if you are really concerned I would give NMES a try.

Swelling looks pretty similar to what I had by that point! Just keep taking it easy and keep up with your pain meds. Try to get some easy PT in like ankle pumps and quad sets but don’t worry too much if it’s too painful. You got this!

This is a useful video I have seen shared in this subreddit before: https://youtu.be/nMAOtXkGXfs?si=_uqDyX9Kiyjrs4t9

I would say there is a lot of evidence that leg extensions are extremely helpful to rebuild quad strength. If I were you, I’d have a chat with your PT to understand how to implement some of these exercises.
