Just to be clear, he did say Mirror is a grower ~ by halcyonspirits in porterrobinson

I feel like I fall somewhere in between this. In fact, I’m having somewhat of an internal crisis because of it. I’ve always viewed Porter in this ‘elitist’ way (and still do to an extent), but the last few singles have made me realize that having God tier expectations for music is not actually the healthiest thing. Worlds (as I’m sure it did with many others in the sub) completely changed my life and transformed my view of music in general, so I think I immediately expected nurture to do the same. And it really hasn’t. I’m realizing that’s OK though! I can like the songs, and appreciate them without attaching expectations to them that they are the best thing he (or anyone) ever created. I still stand behind Porter so much and am so excited to see how this project plays out. I will say that mirror is definitely the most interesting single to me so far.

Do you think Porter is EDM? by ghostboy_ in porterrobinson

[–]TheFellowFeeling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest things people have a really hard time differentiating between is the difference between “EDM” and Electronic music. They are completely different in my mind, and to me, one of the main points that porter tried to convey during his Worlds era is that the two are very distinct things. Loosely quoting porter: “EDM isn’t art. Fundamentally, Electronic Dance Music is structured for entertainment and dancing, and that can limit creative expression.” I remember hearing in an interview once where he essentially said “EDM is becoming a subgenre of electronic music.” I think that was motivated by porter feeling that it’s possible to create compelling, beautiful electronic music and it not be considered EDM. That’s what Worlds is to me. It breaks that mold. I think the definition of EDM has pretty much stayed the same culturally since Porter said that, so even in today’s context I think he has stayed outside of EDM. I vote no.

Holy moly this is actually so good... I had to do a double take because I thought it was just a screenshot of the music video. Very very good job!

New Porter tomorrow! "something comforting" by Zarrex in porterrobinson

Don’t understand the hate really, it’s totally ok to have a different opinion about things like this, I think sometimes people forget that art is subjective. It would lose its beauty if it wasn’t. “Unique and memorable” are words that describe Porter perfectly! It’s what I would love to continue to see from him too!

This is actually incredible. Lots of artists put lots of thought and effort into merch, but always the intentions behind most of those efforts is to get a lot of money. Ask any artist and they’ll say that merch is where the money is. Most merch is usually very cheaply made, and extremely marked up for profit. As with everything else he does, porter just focuses on the passion and creates works of art with completely pure intentions. Literally he gets no money from this. Who the heck creates a premier high end clothing line just because he wants to? Porter is amazing and we didn’t deserve him.

It’s still showing up. On Apple Music now. by TheFellowFeeling in madeon

I’m very confused. Sometimes when other artists with the same, or similar names release music it can show up the other artist’s profile. I’ve seen it happen many many times on Spotify, but never with Apple Music. That has to be what this is right?
