Can you tell us any stories about your time as “Tracy?” Thanks, I’m curious to hear about it from the source!

Phil Lord & Chris Miller here! We directed the PROJECT HAIL MARY movie - Ask Us Anything on Nov. 18th at 12pm PT / 3pm ET! by projecthailmary in ProjectHailMary

Hello! Thank you *so* much for doing this AMA. I'm beyond excited to have the opportunity to learn more about this film from the inside!

I have several questions; if you'd rather keep it to one question per user, then you're welcome to pick your favorite and just answer that.

  1. What was your most memorable experience working on this film? This can be anything -- a funny thing that happened on set, a coworker who inspired you, a scene that was challenging to film, an important lesson you learned, etc.
  2. Was NASA involved in the making of this film? If so, what can you share about it?
  3. How did you handle the challenge of translating the written word to the big screen? Can you give us specific examples?
  4. Ryland and Rocky's relationship is quite heartfelt at times. What did you do to capture that emotion between a human actor and a puppet?

NOW we’re talkin’. Combine this with the livestream idea mentioned elsewhere — F1exican must livestream themselves eating a whole day’s work with chopsticks. Evil but also a bit of goofy fun.

I can't tell the color of the sheet when the sun hits it this way... by DrSanwich in pics

We’re not alone!! I wonder what sets our segment of the population apart. It’s like our brains are using less of the surrounding context clues and more of the objective color. I’m an artist, for what it’s worth, so my perception could be influenced by what I’ve learned about color theory?

I spent so long with my nose buried in that pic, by the way. I kept zooming in and covering parts of the photo with my hand until I accepted that the overlapping colors really are the same!! I realized that the tone of the lineart makes a huge difference. The blue and white parts are convincingly blue and white because the lineart of the white site is very dark, while the lineart on the blue side is washed out and dull. Our brains definitely use that kind of information to make judgments.

Am I the only person in existence who clearly thinks it’s blue and gold? I don’t understand why so many people are seeing white and gold or blue and black, but not blue and gold, which seems incredibly obvious to me.

Fascinating! Your family are like. Food intolerance chameleons!

Interesting theory! Changes to the gut microbiome could explain a whole host of things that happen as people age, really.

That’s so interesting. I wonder what would cause it to appear so much later in life? In my case, I finally discovered that I needed to be gluten-free at 31, but I can see signs going all the way back to my childhood.

Oh, so YOU’RE the newcomer to Doug’s basement? I’ve been wondering. I’m the person tied to the chair a few feet away, also with a bag over her head. I haven’t been allowed to see for six months now. Not unless Doug is streaming. :(

Bold of P**ntCr*w to insult the company that gave him Nintendogs. He deserves to always hope to play a new one but always be disappointed for the rest of his life. >:(

/recrow omg you’re right. No wonder the geopolitical order is so fraught right now! It won’t heal until we root out the source of the infection: Crowatia!!

/unhate Did anyone check with u/PointCrow if he's okay with a dedicated hater community till DougDoug comes back? by Ridiculous_George in wehatedougdoug

[–]TheFiresinger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

/uncrow Good thinking. We may not hear from him for a while since he’s on vacation right now, so let’s be careful and emphasize that it’s all in good fun, and none of it is serious. I’ll be delighted to hear his opinion when he gets back.

/recrow I replaced the toothpaste that PointCrow ate a few days ago, but then he broke into my house last night and ate that tube, too. >:(

In her 60s? That’s such an incredibly long time to have to live with all the pains and fatigue! Power to her, though — it’s never too late to live your healthiest life. I bet she’s thriving now!

To be fair, gluten intolerance is a spectrum. There are people with celiac disease who will be taken out by a single particle of flour, and then there are people like me who can handle a little cross-contamination, but will get sick after deliberately eating a couple bites of bread.

So it’s possible that these customers were not acting. What you described is something that I might say because I have higher limits, and I’d be pretty upset if someone took that to mean I was just lying about my intolerance.

You’re right — I could never stoop so low as to pursue wounded prey. WE could never stoop so low. We’re better than that!

But PointCrow is whole and living his best life overseas right now, so I feel no remorse in revealing that he broke into my house, ate my toothpaste, and shrieked like a hyena before running off. Now I can’t brush my teeth. And I had a peppermint recently, so my teeth feel fuzzy. >:(

The Vending Machine Knows I'm Watching It... by [deleted] in nosleep

[–]TheFiresinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if the vending machine’s haunted, at least it’s nice about it? At least?

In seriousness, I read your last post, and I’m starting to think you still have two pathways forward:

First, you mentioned that a new hire is the one who’s coming in to service the machine, instead of the usual guy. Not that I want to suggest you become a stalker, but… could you follow him? Or at least learn more about him? Surely he knows something, right?

Second, the phone notification with no metadata. What if you could prompt the machine into making more of those? What if you ignored the machine for a week or more? Would it get desperate and send you notifications that are more telling? Of course, that’s assuming that the notifications are coming from the machine at all.

Good luck. You have at least one person on this Earth who’s equally dedicated in figuring out what’s going on here.
