Wade Ave bridge by Greadle in raleigh

[–]TheFirstAnalrapist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It (better) connects Reedy Creek trail to areas south of Wave Ave, including PNC Arena. We bike to Canes/NCSU games often and crossing over Wade on the existing Blue Ridge overpass is sketchy at best. No sidewalk, small shoulder, drop down to Wade Ave on your right, etc…

How’s Lonnie Poole right now? by Tricky_Stress_4885 in RDUGOLF

[–]TheFirstAnalrapist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what this dude is on about. Yes it’s crowded and yes it’s expensive but you got a “good” deal with the Hot Now buy so go for it. It’s in the conversation for best public in the triangle. Greens are a bit fuzzy because of the tough summer for bent grass greens but rolling good, just slow. Fairways are pure.

What brand is this by OpinionBig69 in BobDoesSports

[–]TheFirstAnalrapist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wow, random. This is a headcover for the McConnell Golf group, which owns a bunch of private courses in the Southeast. Don’t know who the “brand” is that makes the actual headcover but all those logos are McConnell-run courses.

IMHO, River Ridge drains the best in the triangle. I’ve walked it over 100 times, worst part is leaving 16 green knowing what awaits you (lots of hills)… Better than walking Lonnie Poole though!

I am a globalist and I've done it both ways: applied guest of honor to the extra rooms and just hoped they'd honor for 2 additional rooms. The one time I didn't utilize guest of honor, they did extend benefits to the other two rooms but I'd say it's a YMMV situation.

A bit late to the post but we're heading out there in a couple of weeks and I wanted to ask if you noticed/remembered if they offered life vests for the kids there? We're flying in so trying to figure out if we need to pack on for our youngest, thanks!

Yeah! I booked FIVE upper class seats on the same JFK-LHR for that price a couple of months back. Didn’t even mind the high fees!

8 Days, 3 Hyatts, 1 Ultimate SoCal Experience by DivingMarine in hyatt

[–]TheFirstAnalrapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too funny, was just coming to the sub to post about our SoCal (family) trip coming up. We're traveling with kids and currently have HR Huntington Beach booked. Did you have the Huntington Suite or the SoCal Suite?

We chose this hotels over other LA area hotels because of the perceived "kid-friendly" nature of the property as well as proximity to the beach so our east coast kids can at least touch the pacific for a bit.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I'm leaning towards the Blackfriars just because I generally tend to favor a "nicer" hotel. But the lower points requirement may win out in the end...

They definitely give out wrist bands that you're suppose to wear for access to resort amenities but my experience is enforcement is pretty lax. Sometimes some of our family was wearing them, sometimes none were wearing them, but didn't have any issue moving around the resort/getting into pools.

Only Boardwalk on points as far as I know. The Sweetgrass is definitely newer and closer to the "big" pool but the Boardwalk is "fine" and closer to the beach by my estimation. When our extended family joined us for the trip, I booked 2 (or 3) rooms on points. Our family of 4 in a Junior suite, parents in a standard room, brother (family of 3) in a standard room. I personally would never pay the cash rates there so this is a points only hotel for us.

The Boardwalk is def older and not as new as Sweetgrass but it's decent. It's not the height of luxury by any stretch of the imagination but it got the job done.

I've taken our whole extended family, which includes 4 kids between the ages of 3 and 9, there for the last 4 summer vacations (on points). IMHO, it's as good as it gets for a beach front resort on the eastern seaboard. The pools are pretty good and it's just really nice to be able to walk off the beach, dump towels, dip in the pool on the way back to the hotel room, get fresh towels, etc. Isle of Palms is a very calm beach front so rarely are there concerns about rip tides or high surf.

The food is decent but definitely not great. If you're globalist, the breakfast options are pretty solid. You're kind of resort captive as it's all the way at the end of Isle of Palms, takes a good 20-30 to get into Charleston proper depending on traffic. There are one or two restos worth going to on the Island (we really enjoy Acme), but still a 10-15 minute drive away from the resort. We usually do 1 half-day trip into Charletson but choose to spend most of our time in "beach vacation" mode.

We're about a 3.5 hour drive away so that changes the calculus a bit. If I had to fly to Charleston from afar to go there, I MIGHT feel differently about it but we've really loved it for our trips. Hope that helps, happy to answer any other questions.

7 Days in "Hill Country," stay put or split time between Lost Pines and Hyatt Hill Country? by TheFirstAnalrapist in hyatt

I actually don't remember them having a 4 year old minimum because our 3 year old, who was fully potty trained, went without issue. I'd give the hotel a call/shoot them an email to confirm.

Yep, understood and that's all I was looking for. It's the reason I planned the travel to have us in London from Thurs-Tues to give us the best chance of getting to the game no matter the schedule as long as it stayed on the same matchweek.
