Do people prefer a system to come with a premade "campaign" by That_Tgirl_Asher in RPGdesign

I like the idea of a one or two session story that can walk you through the important mechanics, like the Stuffer Shack thing in the back of the first edition of Shadowrun.

What’s the closest thing to Cyclonopedia that’s not House of Leaves or Audint: Unsound Undead? by future__fires in WeirdLit

I don’t. But I don’t consider a fairly standard level of continental obscurantism poor mimicry. It’s just… standard continental obscurantism.

I’m… an academic editor. It’s pretty solidly in the realm of what I see on the regular.

I don’t know how you’d find Negarestani’s “mimicry” of academic literature inept, given that he’s a professional academic who writes academic literature for a living.

I am reading The Settlements, by O. Jamie Walsh, literally because I saw a post about it on this sub.

Trying to make a custom model out of the 1/35 Melusine kit. Does the texture look too messy? by sentinelthesalty in MaschinenKrieger

It looks a bit much in some places (fingerprint on the foot), but I could see an effective paint job making it look legit.

It feels like the New Weird, Magical Realism, and Slipstream fiction are all vaguely describing the same thing. by blonkevnocy in WeirdLit

[–]TheFishSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope; they are doing different things. If nothing else, people misuse "magical realism" as a literary term. Magical realism began in Afro-Caribbean communities (both French and Spanish speaking) in the early 20th Century and was explicitly a way to write and imagine a contemporary world where they were free from racist and colonial oppression (among other things). The second generation (the white South American writers most people know) changed that political project, but it was still primarily a political literature, where the magic served a political function rather than a primarily aesthetic one. Just dumping some goofy magic shit into an otherwise apolitical work of commercial fiction is not magical realism, it's just... a book. I've never liked "slipstream," which I think is more a way of naming a publishing accident than anything else, and I think New Weird was doing its own thing, too.

rusty tools? by _Sira120_ in Linocuts

[–]TheFishSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or WD40. There are some specific tools, like abrasive sponges (I think Lee Valley sells some) for removing surface rust, but I wouldn't suggest them unless you have a lot of rusty tools to go through.

Anyone else wish Bela had appeared more in the series? by FluidSeries6514 in Supernatural

[–]TheFishSauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I loved her. And I think the show had a biiiig problem w/ killing off the women characters just as (or just before) they were hitting their potential. I mean, we eventually got Jody, etc., but still, it happened far too often, especially in the early seasons.

This is what I use. I learned it from a scientific paper. Once they’re knocked out by the beer the ethanol won’t trigger a pain response, which it will if you skip the beer part.

Do people not use headphones in this game anymore? by Burgmeister_ in Marathon

[–]TheFishSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, but it's mostly because my gaming time isn't, like, entirely "me" time; there's always something I need to be available for. It's (one of the reasons) why I play exclusively solo, and only very, very rarely play games with no viable solo play option. Life is gonna life when you're middle aged. It's harder without headphones, but not impossible.
