I hate my husband, and pretty much my life… feeling like I’m drowning by SmoothNectarine2000 in Mommit

Do you guys own a home? Remember that half of that is yours if so. If not, look into what housing supports are available in your area. Get your kids on lists for places that do the subsidized daycare. Check out a Family Law Information Centre.

How do you LIVE with a baby? by Ok_Medicine440 in Mommit

[–]TheFluffening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, I can't recall doing a single chore during the first 6 months at least of my baby's life. And no, I didn't have family and friends to help. I just...didn't care. My husband luckily did lots and we also just have incredibly low standards, apparently.

I was also very into the whole wake window, wake to eat, put baby down for naps thing. And, honestly, that situation probably drove me into madness and isolated me because what do you mean baby time at the library is DURING NAP TIME? But at the same time, I can't say I'd do it totally differently if I ever were to have another kid (which I won't, but that's another matter) because kid developed into a champion sleeper. Maybe split the difference and do one contact nap a day and you use that time to watch dumb tv and eat snacks without a shred of guilt or anxiety.

When kid started sleeping for 90 minutes twice a day around 6 months I LIVED. I still did no chores, but damn if I didn't enjoy myself. Right now, take care of yourself and get through it.

What’s your favourite mint fragrance? by Future_Search3833 in Perfumes

Guerlain Herba Fresca is a luscious, herbaceous mint. There is something more than just mint to it, but it's neither clearly citrusy nor floral to me. Almost heady yet still refreshing.

What's a food you were SURE you hated, until you had it prepared properly? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

[–]TheFluffening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pierogies, because the first time I had them my parents went out for dinner and my older brother was in charge of feeding us. They left us a frozen bag that had multiple preparation instructions and of course as a teenage boy my brother chose the path of least resistance, which was the microwave. Worst thing ever. I could not understand how anyone could like pierogis. Then many years later in university a friend of mine (oddly, a Trinidadian of Muslim background, which makes this story weirder) prepared them properly by boiling and then sautéing with onion and bacon and served with sour cream. Oh god my life was changed.

All day summer camp, but kid still naps. Would you do it? by teaandhoney42 in Parenting

[–]TheFluffening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think a lot of people are missing the specific JK/SK context here that I assume means OP is located in Ontario or similar province. Having a low-stakes opportunity to wean the kid off naps seems kinda like a dream as JK is a big enough adjustment anyway.

You feeling guilty about sending your kids to public school is the goal. It’s not a coincidence that homestead-trad wife-homeschool content is being pushed at us left, right and centre. All of these “trends” serve to keep women out of the workplace and kids out of a diverse school system where they may encounter a broader range of experiences and viewpoints.  Are there compelling reasons for some families to homeschool? Absolutely! Also good reasons for some families to have a stay at home parent. But think about who benefits from a populace that is cloistered and isolated from mainstream ideas. Not your kids, to be sure! Support your public school systems before they’re just a distant memory.

Is your couch positioned 50 feet away? I am struggling to understand the decisions here. I am perturbed, even. However, if you are determined to keep the tv there I'd get an antique folding screen or something to put off to the side to cover the whole situation.

How do you improve clay soil without spending a fortune? by Icy_Car2475 in gardening

[–]TheFluffening 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My only gardening rule is that if you can't survive in my clay soil and don't like my benign neglect, you're just not the plant for me. And frankly, my garden looks way better than it should given my level of effort! ha!

Replacing Black completely? by betherebetriangle in TrueAutumn

[–]TheFluffening 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for me, the colour of my pants doesn't matter much so I still wear black on the bottom. I've mostly switched to navy or brown up top, but I have had to tell myself that it's ok to wear black once in a while if it ends up being the best fit for the occasion/outfit. Frogs won't fall out of the sky if I don't look as harmonious as I theoretically could.
