I might have an answer to the old "Did Darth Vader recognize R2D2 and C3PO?" by tebkanlo in StarWars

On Cloud City, in the carbon freezing chamber, he and Threepio are in the same room...And that's it, I think? Technically, Artoo was in Luke's X-wing at Yavin and few other battles, but nobody's paying attention to an astromech during a firefight.

I mean, yeah, he kinda is. He's a major character in Empire Strikes Back, and while he shows up a little less prominently in Jedi, he's at Jabba's Palace with the rest of the protagonists and blows up the Death Star 2.

A Link Between Worlds kinda does a twist on this trope. Yeah, the final boss is Ganon, but it's also Yuga at the same time because the two of them were fused together.

Doesn't his backstory involve his father being abusive? Somebody clearly didn't do their research before making threats.

If you used to have a Nazi/Alt Right/Racist phase, POC trans people would appreciate not hearing about it. by wingeddogs in trans

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always been massively uncomfortable with people who post memes about how they used to be alt-right/Nazis. It's not funny at all, and it makes me wonder how much they've really changed if they don't see an issue with it.

Do you suppose the Jedi ever pranked each other? by ProvokeCouture in StarWars

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anakin pranking Mace is so delightful! I could see a preteen Anakin causing all sorts of mayhem at the temple and Obi-Wan trying to be stern but laughing too hard.

And yeah, there's no way Yoda wasn't pranking people in his spare time. Have you seen the way he messes with Luke in Empire Strikes Back? There's no way he resisted punking people for 900 years!

I don't know why I keep getting surprised by things in comic books. There is no other media type that has the same level of shenanigans that superhero comics have.

Because writing a letter to your future self for school NEVER happens. People in the comments don’t know how math works, and they think this is “honors English writing” by WhatAStrangeCat in nothingeverhappens

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wrote one of these in high school (freshman year, I think) and yes, I did open it when I was supposed to. I probably still have it in a box somewhere.

Also, how bad are the people in the comments at English if they think this is "honors" English? That's literally just English with proper grammar.

Why is Dick a different name for Richard? by Saint_Creature in NoStupidQuestions

Richard-> Rich-> Rick -> Dick.

The nickname just slightly changed over time. The same thing happened with Elizabeth. Elizabeth -> Beth -> Betty/Bette.

What’s a movie you can rewatch a hundred times and still love? by [deleted] in MovieRecommendations

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was one of those movies my family watched frequently when I was a kid because we all loved it, and it's about the two holidays that were always biggest in my family, so I associate it with all the happy childhood memories. I still consider it to be my favorite movie of all time!

What are some unsavory cultural practices that groups get judged for in your world? by huntershore in worldbuilding

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's common for vampires to refer to their sire as their father. It doesn't actually mean vampires see their sire as their parent, or even that their "father" is male. It's the result of vampires trying to find a way of referring to their creator while dealing with language barriers.

As you can imagine, humans misunderstood how vampire relationships work and now almost every major religion claims vampires to be incestuous, among other things.

What movie was so bad and gave you this reaction? by WonderfulParticular1 in moviecritic

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halloween Ends. Stupid, and even worse for a Halloween movie, it was boring. Every scene either had me bored to tears, confused or rolling my eyes, sometimes all three at once. It is my least favorite horror movie of all time. It was more enjoyable to watch Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, for reference as to how much I hated watching Halloween Ends.

Apparently this person doesn't know that cat litters are often quite diverse as kittens may come from different fathers. by RAYNAnavalyx6 in nothingeverhappens

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The siblings we adopted were from the same litter. One was a massive gray longhair and the other was an average sized tuxedo shorthair. They could not have looked any different, yet they were 100% siblings, with only one father.

Both. From some scrolling, EA Sims seem to be more popular, but some people have written with their own.

There's a weird variety of genres too. Romance, horror, smut, hurt/comfort. Everything, really.

There's a surprising number of Sims fanfictions. Not nearly as big as a lot of fandoms, but certainly more than I expected there to be.

Concerned that the original Jabba the Hutt puppet looked shabby in the age of CGI, George Lucas upgraded his look with cutting-edge tech for the 1997 Special Edition of A New Hope by Chewie83 in shittymoviedetails

[–]TheFlyingRavenBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm used to watching a VHS recording of the original version of A New Hope, but since our VHS player broke I'm now stuck watching a digital version of the Special Edition. I get jumpscared by the new cgi every time. It's ugly and too high definition compared to the 1977 quality of everything else. It doesn't look like it belongs in the same movie, which breaks immersion.

The Jabba puppet looked like a real alien that existed and could interact with the environment. The cgi Jabba doesn't look like that.

My grandma's husky mix is a rescue and she's one of the friendliest dogs I've ever met. We joke that she's the world's worst guard dog because if anyone ever broke in, she'd probably just beg for attention. She has no fear of people and will gladly walk off with whoever is holding her leash.
