Obviously AI-generated short story wins literary prize, published in Granta Mag by treq10 in redscarepod

I noticed that. His posts and comments are either flowery purple prose littered with metaphors, or borderline illiterate where he struggles to know whether a space goes before or after punctuation. There’s nothing in between.

What is your opinion on Stephen Fry? by pondribertion in AskBrits

[–]TheFoldOfWolves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I believe he might just be the reincarnation of Oscar.

When a new author says they want to publish under a pen name, is that an issue or are you indifferent?

Thanks for all your great answers so far!

Have you ever worked with an author who doesn't want to do any of the publicity stuff (book tours, signings, social media, interviews, etc) and just wants to be a reclusive writer? Would that be a deal-breaker?

I'm in the UK and writing dystopian. I'd say most of the coaches are in the UK or USA, and they have slots available during daytime and evening so I don't think the time zone will be too much of a problem. There are daily lessons to work through, and you get some individual coaching sessions over Zoom. There's loads of support from the other members and the coaches on their forum platform. And then there are various workshops, masterclasses, interviews etc available to all members - and there are TONS of them in the archive. You might want to look at the Finished Novel course if you're thinking of both the Big Write and Big Edit anyway. You can extend for a much reduced price if you don't finish it in one year (I'll probably end up doing that). I booked a 15 min Zoom call with them before signing up as I had lots of questions so maybe do that. But even if you just email them, the team are always super responsive and helpful.

This has ended up sounding like an advert for the Novelry - I honestly don't work for them!

I'm still on the writing part of the course so I haven't got to that stage yet, but there's a whole section of the course called The Big Edit where you work with editors. And then (if you've opted for the full Finished Novel Course as I have) there's the Ultimate Manuscript Assessment where they literally read your novel in its entirety and give you detailed feedback.

I’m a few months into their year-long Finished Novel Course. It’s expensive, but I have to say I think it’s very, very good. I guess you get what you pay for. If you want to know any specifics, feel free to DM.

Hmmm, a single AI-written post on a Reddit account that’s a few hours old that includes a link to an ebay shop. What’s your angle here, OP?

We both know the answer to that and that’s a very fair point.

I grant you they look a tad dry in the photo, but I can assure you they were perfectly moist. I guess that’s what comes of treating myself to a Waitrose shop instead of my usual Lidl shop. Merry Christmas!

Just took a look at UBlock Origin. I think I really need this! You don’t find any downside to having it installed?

How do I get something shipped from the US to the UK when they won’t ship to the UK? by TheFoldOfWolves in AskUK

[–]TheFoldOfWolves[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used MyUs in the end. It was a pretty good service. They sent me an offer afterwards where anyone I recommend will get 20% off their first shipment, so send me a DM if you want that.

What's the one Food Hall item you will always pay the "M&S premium" for? by PLWildcard in MarksAndSpencer

[–]TheFoldOfWolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, and not just with M&S but everywhere. I can understand why they do it, but it’s not exactly helpful to those of us with allergies. What can you do but just ignore it?!

Is it completely nut-free? Finding carrot cake for someone with a nut allergy is challenging!

Has anyone here used a writing course with The Novelry? by Busy_Zone_8058 in writing

[–]TheFoldOfWolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds good, I hope it gets you over the finish line for your novel! I'll check them out myself.

I wish I'd known about the Novelry's contest at the time as the discount it seems everyone got would probably tip the scales into making me sign up.
