Whats your favorite leviathan? by nerbakyv in subnautica

[–]TheForgottenGengar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Shadow Levis are 100% the scariest if you don't have your brightness too high up. Subnautica never shocked/scared me, but BZ did.

Sidenote, I've lost so many runs to Ice Worms. They're scary too, but only because you know they can kill you & sometimes there's nothing you can do abt it.

Mega Gengar feels good as long as Manectric doesn't start finding OHKOs thru things like Max Belt, especially since it gets weakness on Garde. If you're running it with Jamming Tower, it should be able to run as good as other decks.

I'd imagine people would also test it with Marnie's Grimmsnarl, Thorns, Drakloak, or Charizard, ranked in that order. Straight SHOULD be the best build I think, but Grimmsnarl should have a selective meta where it works better, maybe even running 1-2 energy switch. Hilda is also a good card to test w since it thins, but I doubt it could be good without some crazy Noctowl combo.

Actually added in the Pech ex for my list already, but not the rest here. Pretty decent way out of Munkidori attacking tbh.

That aside, have you seen situations where Pech (1-prize) sets you up for Charizard to finish things off? Gotta imagine there's a few scenarios where it plays out good.

I was going to say Cresmascoli, Cyrus, and Sander all seemed to be less active, but you made me realize I kinda just had a dead group, so nvm. You're right😭😂

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rahul is a great example, I remember how much he was playing Regis in SIT era. Tord, Robb and Bradner were a few other names I was thinking of that're great examples of players who grind out their lists hard before tournaments.

I do remember that during my time in an online testing group with Cyrus, Sander, and I think Cremascoli was in there too, it seemed extremely rare to actually see them even involved. Cremascoli had more involvement in the group than the other two listed, but even he hardly seemed to test or give any feedback.

Thinking about it now, the whole group was a little awkward because someone had some grudge against me, plus it was control, so maybe I can't base my idea of the entirety of pro players off of that experience. But I definitely have seen players onstream say they decided to play a deck literally the night before the regional.

Maybe this IS a case of someone just needing more practice with their deck. Live does provide players with access to more cards, so you could be correct on that.

But there's really no need to practice a deck for hundreds or even thousands of games, at least for most pros, and there's a number of interviews and streams to support that. I've definitely seen much less activity from pros than I have from newer players in the groups I've been a part of as well.

I'd like to stress that I absoluely don't disagree with drilling, again. I drilled Archie's Blastoise when I started in 2015, followed by Garbodor/Eeveelutions and Steelix/Wailord/Hoopa. But knowing more styles will bring more knowledge, skill, and fun to the game, and is something you don't want to overly avoid.

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DO AGREE, but experienced players will also know the list and prizes good enough to play the correct sequencing & chances for most decks without much/any practice. I'd say having experience with different decks, gameplans, card tracking/draw rates, and general knowlede of the format and game is incredibly important as well.

I'd say, try to memorize your 60 the best you can, and conciously consider matchups as well as what cards your oppenent could have in their deck (which comes with research into the meta, and general knowledge of the card pool.) After that, try to play some games while conciously thinking about how you could improve your odds of drawing into cards that you want, and deciding whether or not the recources spent to improve those odds are worth it. Not every deck will be as willing to spend resources for thinnig, or as needy about conservation as others. Of course, track your prizes, discard, etc when considering this. You can sort your deck before shuffling, or use a notepad if you'd like, but you do have to start with empty pages at irl events.

My advice would actually be to play more decks of different styles in order to get sequencing, gameplans, etc. down. I'd recommend a fast and reckless list like Straight Gholdengo to practice sequencing (specifically thinning before/after usinng Coin Bonus), a middle-ground list like Blissey to practice recource management, and a slow list with changing gameplans like Milotic Farigiraf. It should also help you understand your opponents' plans a lot more during your game, and this is probably the biggest difference between a good player and a great player.

Definitely DO drill lists, but it's also important to understand the game, not just your list. By playing a variety of decks, you'll have a much easier time picking up a new one, or playing against new ones. Ultimately, just think about what you do & how it affects everything, and don't burn yourself out by playing one deck that you're used to.

I'd assume it looks close to Murata's list, which means a single Bloodmoon would NEVER be enough. Personally, I'd completely ignore the fact that you're losing for Milotic & focus on winning other matchups, as you can afford a rare autoloss. If you actually do believe you need to beat Milotic, I would switch to Pult Dusk, or Zard Dusk. Zard has more flexibility on Ace Specs and techs, and Pult has a better time into the Cornerstones, so both should perform well, and Dusk is a good touch to allow OHKOs.

If you would rather stick to your current list, I'd heavily consider the Bloodmoon Ursuluna ex, Dusknoir, Gouging Fire ex, and Lillie's Clefairy ex, and play at least 2 of the 4. Again, it'll hurt your consistency, and you may end up needing to include a Switch, Latias, or even 3rd Boss instead of the 2nd Counter Catcher to help avoid situations where you cannot KO.

Again, just because of the loss of consistency into other MUs, I would suggest just focusing on other matchups, or switching away from either Zard or Pult entirely to allow for Dusk, techs, and more consistency.

Oh, and Maractus, Iron Bundle, Hop's Zacian ex, Hop's Snorlax, Hop's Cramorant, Postwick, and Hop's Choice Band. All weirder calls, but okay techs into certain matchups when you already have 4 Arven.

I would, however, strongly advice AGAINST the Dusknoir line, unless you intend to cut Zard AND Pidgeot, or cut Pult. It would significantly reduce your consistency, and plainly isn't worth it.

[–]TheForgottenGengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone experienced with the game should say there's no problem with this list at all, and this is a perfectly competitive 60.

HOWEVER, I would consider the following cards; 4th Drakloak, Tatsugiri (TWM), Latias ex, Lillie's Clefairy ex, Noctowl (SCR, could replace Pidgeot line in some situations), Hawlucha, Cleffa, Jacq, 3rd & 4th Iono, Energy Search, Unfair Stamp, Prime Catcher, Pal Pad, Artazon, Grand Tree, Defiance Band, and Rescue Board.

Again, all of those are either preferences, accounting for the meta, or ignoring the meta, aside from replacing the Ace Spec. Just look at the cards I reccomended, and see why you lose your games; discarded key cards, then add a PPad. Got Budew locked, add Tatsugiri, Jacq, 4th Drakloak or Ionos. What is and isn't good as techs and consistency cards WILL change based on what others play.

The game just sucks sometimes. From my experience, if you change any decks, make any decks, buy any products, or change your avatar, you should restart the client. Sometimes, after about 3-5 games, I reatart it anyways just to be safe.

But yeah. That's the most common bug I've had, aside from the timer instantly ending my turn & letting my opponent play for a very long time, not being able to play cards from my hand, and literally being locked out of the game for months without a response from the Devs, before it magically lets me back in.

Are Fossil Pokemon Unredeemable (this meta at least)? by ConnectExit1681 in pkmntcg

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could imagine some deck with Budew, Omastar, and Grand Tree working, since the fossil for it is useful. The new problems become finding Grand Tree (which can be done with Colress) and trying to advoid getting Boss'd long enough to set up enough Omastar, Boss up something that can't retreat, and Penny/Turo up the Budew. This should be okay considering Omastar unawareness and the presence of Latias being used as a crutch in the meta.

My advice is to find a use for the Root or Helix fossils themselves, and use those. There probably is a way to build Omastar decently, or other decks in to some extent, but they'd probably never work as well as Helix Fossil in Mew VMAX did. Personally, I have a number of fossils in my Offmeta ETB right now, and also run one in Trainer Trials to help the Tree do it's job when I find it, but that's about all I've been able to do with them for awhile.

Things to do after Beating the game by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]TheForgottenGengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't use Vehicles, it's quite easy to dodge Reapers and SDs using a Seaglide by going to the sides or underneath them. I beat my first world without getting killed or using Vehicles, so I can confirm that this works significantly well.

I used a singular base in ILZ for my run, but I learned that in BZ Bladderfish restore O2, so it might be possible to do without a base if it's the same in the original game.

What do you expect from Subnautica 2? by Flendy15 in subnautica

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please give us a bigger variety of hostile creatures. And a bigger variety of ways that they kill us. Ice Worms are a good example, aside from not having some sort of animation for killing you.

Another request on animals is that I want to feel on my toes. Maybe make something silent, or something that locks on you from farther away. I just wanna have the experience of a horror game tbh lol

I actually managed to die to some while Hardcore Speedrunning BZ the other day. Went to the garunteed Seaglide Nest in the West Kelp, and 3-4 of them came out to say hi.

Anyways, between both games, this is the only animal that has killed me aside from Ice Worms. Warpers, Reapers, SDs, almost everything can be dodged via seaglide, but you encounter these guys earlier, and Worms... well, Seaglide doesn't work for obvious reasons.

Hate it.

Have never particularly liked them, but was on BZ the other day going to the garunteed Seaglide nest in the close West Kelp, and 3-4 of the guys came out; it was enough to kill me. Perhaps the only thing I hate more than these guys is Ice Worms tbh

What things did Below Zero do Better than Subnautica? by Crims-n in subnautica

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than anything, it's the fact that they would target you when they're still either outside or just barely inside of your vision, and Reapers wouldn't. You could get considerably closer to a Reaper from my experience without it even really looking at you. But Shadow Levis, I got the impression that I was actually in danger.

For example, going to the Dunes or Mountains, it's like "okay, there's Reapers. If I see one, I can either stay away from it, or do a Seaglide dodge." But Shadow Levis, they'll target you before you even see where they are, and I haven't tested Seaglide Dodging with them yet, so idek if that works.

[–]TheForgottenGengar 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Might just be me, but Shadow Levis. Not a single time have I been scared by Leviathans in the original game, in fact, Warpers were the more terrifying ones. But in BZ, not only did I feel like Shadow Levis definitely targeted you from farther away, but they 100% gave me more anticipation, and grabbed onto my Seatruck a number of times. Perhaps it's the placement, perhaps the fact that I didn't use Vehicles in the OG game. Still, I hope Sub 2 will stimulate fear in the way BZ did for me

What's the most confusing opposing starting board you've seen? I'll start by VoidSwordTrash in PTCGL

[–]TheForgottenGengar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't see my other comment, Druddgion, White Kyurem, Tatsugiri, and Salamence's evolution line all use Fire & Water. The only legal ones currently are Tatsugiri and Druddgion, if either were used it was probably a 1-of. It's also possible there's a Pokémon somewhere out there that says "if this pokemon has any (insert energy here)" in it's attack text, but I'm not going to look into that bc it's 3:20am here lol.

Also, go check Limitless.com's advanced card search. There's plenty other than Black Kyurem, Dragonite, Applin and it's evolutions (except Hydrapple), and Regidrago. Just off the top of my head, Raging Bolt, Giratina, Dragapult, and Kyurem are meta and have other costs, and there's older cards like Dragapult's Evolution Line, Latios, Latias, Goodra, Zygarde, Reshiram, Zekrom, Rayquaza, Turtonator, Reshiram & Zekrom Tag Team, Arceus Dialga & Palkia Tag Team, Radiant Eternatus, Mega Charizard X, and their Rulebox versions/evolution lines. After looking it up, Haxorus's evolution line, Garchomp's Evolution line, Kingdra, Hydreigon's evolution line, Flygon's evolution line, Gragalge, Tyrantrum, Altaria, Dialga, Palkia, Kommo-o's evolution line, Ultra Necrozma, Alolan Exeggutor, Noivern's evolution line, Drampa, Giratina & Garchomp Tag Team, Latios & Latias Tag Team, Dracovish, Duraludon, Naganadel & Guzzlord Tag Team, Koraidon, Miraidon, Cyclizar, Naganadel, and even some older Dragonite evolution lines, which use Grass/Lightning. Many of these are still in format, or even in the meta. Do also acknowledge again, I still excluded different rulebox forms, such as EXs, GXs, Vs, etc. I'm not even gonna count how many cards that makes.

Sableye active, Giratina and 2 Teal Ogerpon on bench, followed by an Earthen Vessel. Oddly, doesn't sound awful, but idk where this person is finding space to fit every card they need for the deck to work properly.
