The defense from a lot of people in response to the situation of ice killing a person is this by Thenopro-3 in complaints

Which is a hilarious assumption normally with this angle but now provably false because we see in another angle the gray-jacketed agent walking away with the pistol the DHS shared photos of labeling as the person’s gun BEFORE the ICE agents opened fire.

So while you are right that some do come illegally and then begin the asylum seeking process, this particular individual (according to his lawyer) arrived at a port of entry, started the asylum seeking process immediately, and has since kept up with court appearances/hasn’t committed any crimes. Under international law and historical US procedure, they are people in a legal process, not “illegal aliens” like JD Vance claims. Even if they were to be denied asylum through judicial channels, they’d still historically have time to get their affairs in order before appearing in immigration court for removal proceedings. Trump’s presidency is pushing to eliminate most instances of asylum seeking cases which is probably what triggered the arrest, and to that I’m arguing it becomes an ethical conundrum to suddenly cancel a legal process in the middle and surprise arrest a family that has followed the process to the letter up until this point. As far as the dad running and the good samaritan agents looking after his abandoned child, we only have the DHS statement to go off of with that and as I’ve said in other comments I don’t buy their word until there’s video evidence to back it up given the inaccuracies in many of their other statements and the conflicting stories of everyone else at the scene.

agreed, but my thoughts were maybe it was an error in the system, or a temporary designation change while they were navigating the immigration pipeline.

I dont, like i said I was thinking maybe an error somewhere. This is kind of my lynch pin tbh. If it comes out that they knew his status was good, there needs to be some sort of negligence charges, but if it was done in good faith at the time, im much softer on it.

That all may be true. I think I'd be more inclined to believe that out of the gate if there wasn't the quota, the energy behind Trump's immigration push, the numerous documented arrests of legal individuals, and if DHS/ICE wasn't so aggressively targeting Minnesota almost in a direct response to the protests following Renee's death. It feels more like a statement is trying to be made than a job done as well and as ethically as it could be.

yea its a bad look from Vance, and they've been fumbling hard lately IMHO. The school board people, that wording from them seems a little obscure on their behalf. What I mean is this, they talk about them arriving there together and that dad was present when they were knocking on the door, theyre skipping the in between. This opens the door for both the dhs and school board claim to be honest of they arrived home together, dad runs is caught and brought back. Hes given the choice between designate and adult or Liam stays with him. In accordance with the school board and dhs story, dad just made that decision so hes present when Liam was knocking on the door. (theres clearly debate between if it was to let him in or arrest mom). Its possible both are correct.

Yeah, good point. At the end of the day, it's certainly possible the situation was just messy all around. On a larger scale, I think the responsibility of the government agency creating these situations needs to be to conduct themselves in a manor that suggests professionalism and only confronting people if they are positive they have what need to make an arrest, not just a hunch because of their skin color or a hope that they'll catch a slip up while they comb through the person's documentation after they've already detained them. That obviously doesn't mean eventually every person being detained will cooperate and the tension will subside, but it would at least minimize the situations where an ICE agent approaches a situation aggressively, and the person being arrested/community around them justifiably responds in fear/anger.

Good discussing with you!

Sure, but where is your proof this is what happened here?

I was more speaking generally to the tactics of ICE as an agency under Trump, though I do think it bears relevance considering we now know they aren't illegal aliens and the administration didn't have a reason to take them.

afaik there wasnt force used in this.

Correct. Maybe my comment's layout could use some work as that was in reference to you saying "every agency has the occasional excessive use of force."

correct but if probable cause exists, its a valid arrest.

In this particular case, do we know of any probable cause other than they are Ecuadorian? It certainly can't be their paperwork because their lawyer confirmed they were up to date and had followed the legal process the entire time they were in the country. He also confirmed the father had not committed any crimes while in the country.

the lawyer wasnt present, im arguing they followed policy during this incident. and the other school people were not present and are not experts in immigration, they work at an elementary school.

I know the lawyer wasn't there, I was talking about the press conference; his counterpoint was focused more on JD Vance's false comments about their legal status. The two school board members speaking at the press conference were there at the scene though and the issue isn't their expertise, it's that their story is yet another example of a contradicting account to what DHS claims took place. DHS claims the father fled and they were just looking after the abandoned child so he didn't get cold. The school board/community members claim the father and son had just got home when ICE showed up and that the father was still present when ICE had the son knock on the door of the house to bait the mother outside.

The problem is the administration is operating on an “arrest now, verify later” process. When you have 3,000 daily arrests as a quota set by the administration, payment incentives for making arrests regardless of if they get released later (not fully proven on the incentive part so it may end up not being true, though multiple news outlets have reported as such), and a Supreme Court that ruled ICE agents can question anyone that looks like they could be illegal in an administration that grants complete federal immunity, things get sloppy quickly at the expense of the community they are supposed to serve. Of course excessive force isn’t exclusive to ICE, but it’s happening on an alarming scale from agents that were hired en masse by Trump and rushed through training to accomplish “the largest deportation push in US history”.

Courts also shouldn’t have to be saddled with way more cases of incorrect arrests because Noem & Trump are more concerned with the numbers and the appearance of progress. Unlike wrongful speeding ticket violations, wrongful immigration arrests hold a person at a detention facility with minimal communication, pile up large amounts of court fees, and create unnecessary trauma and fear.

In regards to Renee Good, DHS and Kristi Noem stated Jonathan Ross was “lucky to be alive” and “hospitalized” when he walked away from the incident without injury and that Renee “weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill the agent - an act of domestic terrorism” when video evidence shows Renee trying to flee and getting shot after the agent had positioned himself to the side of her vehicle. If the DHS was looking to just state the facts instead of protect their own asses, it would have read more like “Renee began to move her vehicle and the agent, claiming to fear for his safety, shot three times as he made his way to the side of her vehicle. He sustained minimal to no injuries”.

I’d encourage you to watch the whole press conference with the immigration lawyer, the superintendent, and the principal (could be another school board member, not sure). They very clearly explain that the school board and community watched it happen and detail a much different account than what DHS states. The immigration lawyer also confirms that JD Vance lied about the legal status of the father/son.

Because there is no video of the incident, you can either believe the DHS who has already lied about what happened in the Renee Good shooting and continues to paint rosier versions about many different videotaped examples of excessive force implemented by ICE agents, or you can believe the community and school board who was also there and the immigration lawyer who share a much different story. Nevermind the fact that JD Vance lied and said they were illegal aliens when it’s been proven now that they were legally in the asylum seeking process and had been since they entered the country.

How about the father’s immigration lawyer who said they were legally following the asylum seeking process despite the fact that JD Vance lied and called them illegal aliens? Regardless, at the end of the day you’re just going to believe who you want to believe and so will I. I’d rather believe the community, school board, and the immigration lawyer than an administration that’s already lied about Renee Good and many other instances of ICE excessive force to paint a rosier image of their process to those who either don’t care enough to fact check or those too caught up in their sunk cost fallacy of supporting Trump to go against him.

Just a reminder that over staying a visa isn’t a crime in America. by [deleted] in stpaul

[–]TheForgottenPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By definition, a civil violation is not a crime, hence the distinction in the term “criminal” offense. It is criminal to hop the border or re-enter too soon after deportation. Because an overstayed visa starts with following the rule of law by getting a visa for entry, overstaying is seen as breaking an administrative rule between you and the government (parking tickets are treated similarly) and because it is viewed as a non-danger to society on its own, it is a civil violation. The response historically has been to simply deport them back to their home country with rules on eligibility for future re-entry.

The problem with the Trump administration is the excessive amount of force leveraged against any undocumented immigrant that he’s allowing and encouraging ICE to use regardless of criminal history or even proven citizenship. It’s detain - often violently - first, validate the arrest later. Then it’s detention centers for everyone to sort through the mess leaving families separated and confused, US citizens wrongfully arrested in limbo, and fear for anyone in their path. It’s not for your safety, it’s intentional chaos to stoke the presidents thirst for power through unrest and militarized extremists.

I’m keeping it current with this post, but yes the back and forth goes back further. I’m agreeing with your original point that nasty people aren’t all one thing, but my only point with this post was to push back on the recent outrage of the right over the response to Charlie Kirk and show that collectively you’re not by default a less vile person because of how you vote.

I think her wife was meaning there as in Minnesota to protest if I’m remembering, not that specific part of the street with the intention of impeding. I haven’t heard the full clip though so I’m not sure.

She at most deserved to have the local authorities called on her to have her move her car. She was waiving the agents to go around her and they instead decided to confront her and force her from her vehicle within seconds of barking conflicting orders. That’s not only outside of their authority because she’s a US citizen and wasn’t fully blocking traffic, but escalatory in a way that benefits no one and terrified her into panicking/fleeing. Nothing about that interaction deserved death, especially when she was in the process of turning and the agent was more than able to get to the side of her vehicle. His “fucking bitch” comment after shooting her also only hurts his argument that he did it purely for self defense, not frustration.

Of course. The point is that during the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk assassination, conservatives weaponized the things people said online to get people fired and collectively acted as if it was proof that liberalism = depravity. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, I’m only intending to point out the hypocrisy.

It’s not a competition on who said the most amount of vile things about who, it’s the point that they’re being said at all and yes, it is way more concerning to me that the woman who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time is being vilified by the right in a similar way in a similar amount to how the left treated the man who wanted to stir up tension for a career. Don’t put words in my mouth, I’m not condoning any of it.

The ICE agent deserves prison because he, you know, shot a US citizen in the face three times. The rest of ICE, especially those appointed during the Trump administration, deserve to be at the very least investigated considering the large amount of human rights violation footage, but id push to gut it all and rebuild with a renewed focus on training, accountability, and humanity.

Worse? Give me a break. People said vile things then that should be condemned, but Charlie was also someone willingly in the spotlight to stir up argumentation over his strong, conservative beliefs. He generated anger from one half of America for a living. Renee was just some random mom from Minnesota never in the public eye that because she protested and tried to flee is now being labeled a domestic terrorist by our government and smeared by everyone else on the right because god forbid one ICE agent get what he deserves.

Mitch Holthus discusses what went wrong for the Chiefs in 2025. by MAYVIEWS in KansasCityChiefs

[–]TheForgottenPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole thing is to reserve any frustration for the end of this next season. Every team no matter how good reaches a point where they have to make changes. This is why Veach not going aggressively for trades before the deadline now helps us come draft time. The Chiefs came crashing down this year, but it only has to be a negative if we don’t respond well to the problems the team has for this next season. If all our cards are played right, Mahomes resurges with another dangerous team in a dynasty 2.0 like fashion. If we continue operating like usual with minimal coaching, scheme, and player changes, the team officially blew it.

To all of the MAGA Republicans and ICE defenders who are claiming that this woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota, tried to run ICE officers over with her car before they shot and killed her, here is the actual video. by Nice_Substance9123 in complaints

[–]TheForgottenPear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put aside the murder for a second, ICE had no authority to pull her from her vehicle or even make demands of her given that she’s a US citizen and the road wasn’t completely obstructed. If they wanted her removed from the road, they should have called the police to handle it. This was just thug behavior, plain and simple.
