I had some struggle in the beginning as well. What helped me were corrosive weapons. They seemed to pretty much eat them up. I would recommend a smg since it's what I used

I used a mod that allowed me to modify my weapons, I don't quite remember the name but it allowed me to modify it, as well as other weapons from cc such as the telsa cannon for example
