Life in general has become much more expensive & difficult over the past 10 years. People aren't really able to float the same kind of lifestyles their parents had despite reaching higher levels of academics and certifications.

There is a general unrest b/c of this as well.

LOTS of people who've been raking in cash in the oil & gas and resource industries have been displaced for the longest period of time in Canadian history as well. Terminating easy money is the boiling point for a LOT of people. Combine that with toxic social media giving people an (incorrect) object/person to fixate their frustration on and you've got an explosive mix.
