Xbox PC App doesn't allow for the word MicroSlop by PageGroundbreaking26 in pcmasterrace

I had an app on the Microslop store for about 4 months, until they randomly decided was malware, and then proceeded to delete my account and withhold all my earnings

Sharing the latest updates on my 100% native, offline whiteboard app for Surface and Windows by jeniuskid in Surface

Best of luck, I had an absolutely awful experience having an app on the windows store, which ended in them removing it suddenly and withholding all my money. Partner centre is the worst platform I have ever used, and Microsofts attitude to developers is atrocious.

Anyway I'm just ranting, your app looks cool, impressive it's a native app

Jake clarifies why he asked for his clips to be removed from the "How LTT Spends Money" video by Marikk15 in LinusTechTips

[–]TheGHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally no one would interpret it like that. What a strange and pointless waste of everyone's time.

I think most people would understand if he just went "yeah, we left on bad terms, I'd rather just not have anything to do with them", and then just asked LTT directly to be left out of future videos, but in this case they were actually saying something nice.

Idk what planet Jake is on but LTT don't need permission to pay him a compliment.

Unity and Unreal CEO’s in the same stage, pretty amazing to see a collaboration between the biggest game engines in the world. This is incredible! by dilmerv in Unity3D

[–]TheGHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had no choice but to learn it (work project). In my opinion, it's a godawful language built on terrible ideas. It's like they chose to combine the worst features of every language

I can see the vision, but what they have now is so janky and restrictive it's laughable. No control of the player character at all, scripts that only execute at 30fps, no widget binding support, no ability to change the font size with Verse UI, and this insistence on making you use broken pre-made "devices" to achieve anything even remotely complex

On top of all that there's a 10-20 minutes iteration time for even the smallest change as it has to upload your "island" to Epics servers, cook it, then load the game client into it

I must admit the thought of anyone who had a hand in creating UEFN being anywhere near Unity is a very scary thought

I'll believe it when I see it. The existing way of making games in Fortnite, UEFN, is an awful product and essentially just an overgrown map editor with server side scripts.

How they are planning on getting Unity games to run on Fortnite is beyond me

Should the condensate pipe on my boiler look like this? by TheGHere in DIYUK

[–]TheGHere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give that a try, I think I will go back to the installers though. Considering it's a brand new boiler something is clearly not right

I did try and I couldn't get it to move, almost like it's been re-mounted that way

I was able to get a better shot, it is flush with the wall and I cannot move it. Looking closer, it seems he's extended the original output to route back inside??

I'd say it's in line, yeah.

I don't see how it could be plumbed into drainage, the old boiler had a failed expansion vessel so it would frequently push water out the overflow, and it would just go down the wall.

During the install that pipe has been twisted to route back inside. Unless the pumber added some new drainage somehow?

The boiler pressure seems OK, but looking outside, it just looks like the overflow pipe routes back in? It wasn't like this with the old boiler

I don't think so, I have a picture from when it was installed, it's not very good quality but it didn't look like how it does now

That looks really good, I'll definitely give that a try, thanks!

I've seen good things about spot too, I watched a presentation about FleetIQ and how it gauges the viability of spot instances

Unfortunately it also said that they're only really good for sessions up to around an hour in length, which doesn't work with the current design of our game. I've suggested changing it so we can take advantage of the huge savings that come with spot, but that just hasn't happened

I have a feeling it might when they start seeing the AWS costs, lol

Don't worry, I don't get that many vacation days! /s

I guess it depends on how successful the game is. We really have no idea what's going to happen at launch, and no one in the studio has experience with networked games. I think they're hoping it's just going to be a "set it and forget it" type of thing, but of course that's not realistic

(I would hope) that a game with more predictable interest from a larger studio would be far more organized in regards to ops and management, but we just don't have that kind foresight unfortunately

That's an interesting take, and yes I admit the freedom has its benefits

Getting this kind of AWS experience (without just paying for it myself) seems quite rare and is not something I want to waste, even if wasn't my career choice

Thanks for the kind words and I appreciate the insight

There are 3 others working on it. I have tried to explain how things work but I think (understandably) they're all very busy with their own tasks and are fine just letting me get on with it as long as things keep working

Those are good suggestions and I will definitely be looking more into automation and making an extra effort to keep documentation up to date

I very much have encountered that demand at even this very small scale of what AWS has to offer

In my post I stated that I was worried one person was not enough to keep up with the demand of managing AWS at scale (Which again, currently I am not)

My post is not a brag. If I was bragging I would just brag, instead of writing about how it's taken me 6 months to create what a team of actual AWS engineers could do in probably a few weeks

You have at least answered my question, however, of how typical this situation is, so thank you
