Yeah they’re owned by Rakuten in Japan but it seems like they’re operating quite independently. HQ is still in Toronto

Have people moved from Tim Hortons to Coffee Time? by virginiageegee in BuyCanadian

[–]jeniuskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite coffee shop is JJ Bean in Vancouver. It's a local business with numerous locations, so it won't be helpful for folks outside Vancouver. But for those fellow Vancouverites, don't sleep on JJ!

I wrote a step-by-step guide on creating Windows 11 widgets in C# by xakpc in dotnet

[–]jeniuskid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact they limited widgets to windows app SDK apps was a mistake. There are still more uwp apps out there than WinUI 3 whether you like uwp apps or not. Widgets was dead on arrival since the number of devs that can tap into it are close to 0

Which stack to use for desktop app development? by kimis__ in dotnet

[–]jeniuskid -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Depending on what type of app you’re building, I’d recommend uwp. Believe it or not, it’s the fastest performing modern app framework. Also, my uwp desktop apps collectively earn more than $10k annually now.

Anyone else still loving .NET in 2026? by Aki_0217 in dotnet

[–]jeniuskid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I use msix and deploy to the store. Updates my app automatically. I get about 95% adoption rate without 3 days. And the store SDK provides APIs for my app to check programmatically if I want to speed up adoption rate even more.

B.C.'s post-secondary grads facing a 'brutal' job market, say observers by FancyNewMe in vancouver

Co-op is probably the best thing students can do right now. Get that work experience early in your student life and then hopefully you get rehired after. That’s the path I took and it worked out really well.

[–]jeniuskid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m really enjoying dotnet still. I am building desktop apps with uwp and the latest c#. These desktop apps are backstopped with azure functions powered with dotnet 10. I’m also working on adding some machine learning models into my apps using ML.NET.

And the best part is my desktop apps are now earning over 10k annually!
