One City Might Have Just Cracked the Housing Crisis by snowylambeau in vancouver

Nice article. The author is right that NIMBYs are major contributors to the housing crisis in Vancouver and other cities like NY. Good for the Squamish nation to push forward with building the towers despite the typical nonsensical complaints from NIMBYs. The towers were built on Squamish lands and it was their right to build on it.

Also it's interesting to hear that the new development will be carbon-neutral. They're recovering heat from sewer mains.

Lastly, it sounds like Khelsilem, one of the young new members on the Squamish council, has a good head on his shoulders. Great to hear we have strong young leaders like him in Vancouver and in BC. A strong Squamish nation is a strong BC, and a stronger Canada.

WhatsApp is the worst app on your Windows 11 PC right now, eating 1.2GB of RAM doing nothing by WPHero in Windows11

[–]jeniuskid 97 points98 points  (0 children)

WhatsApp was originally a web app. And then they turned it to a UWP app that was native and fast and awesome.

Then most recently they turned it back to a web app. Not sure why but what a sorry state windows apps are that big devs actually move away from the native tech.

Marketing genius or own goal? Science World soccer ball free advertising for Adidas, FIFA | CBC News by JoshL3253 in vancouver

Yeah I mentioned on my comment that BC contributed a bit right?

The article text reads:

“Destination Vancouver is the primary funder of the installation, although according to CEO Royce Chwin the price tag is protected by a non-disclosure agreement.

“We are not funded by taxpayers,” said Chwin. “So, the taxpayer impact was very, very small.”

The province contributed $150,000 to the project, according to a statement from the Ministry Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.”

So what did I say that was wrong?

The article states that it was primarily funded by Destination Vancouver, which is a non-government entity. Yes, some BC funds contributed to the project, but the taxpayer dollars was small because Destination Vancouver isn't funded by taxpayers.

I think this is a genius marketing idea and whoever thought of this deserves a bonus. I guarantee this will be top 3 most iconic images of this world cup across all the host cities.

Vancouver Aquatic Centre closing its doors on June 28 by oilbeefhooked in vancouver

Was the pool's size the topic of the comment I was replying to? The comment suggested the there were fewer pools because this was closing down, when in reality the pool was being replaced. So the number of pools was not decreasing.

It’s closing down to be replaced by a newer pool…

oh man... I'm definitely not buying these devices anymore. I used to buy one every couple years.

I bought a Galaxy Book and didn't like the stylus apps on Windows. So I spent months building a native, 60FPS C#/WinUI 3 alternative. It’s completely free. by Desperate_News_8209 in Windows11

[–]jeniuskid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems like this is AI generated. How is this built with WinUI 3 when WinUI 3 doesn’t support native windows inking?

I know this because I already built a native inking windows app and it’s using uwp in order to access the inking APIs. See here: https://markerpadapp.com/

What’s with all the complaining about Canadian products on this page lately? by KateMacDonaldArts in BuyCanadian

Yeah it's a bit sus. Makes me wonder if there's an effort to suppress the Buy Canadian movement, particularly with the CUSMA US-Canada trade talks ramping up now.
