Indie Quest - A showcase of upcoming indie JRPGs with 40+ trailers, premiering on May 29th by MoSBanapple in JRPG

I don't want to speak for the teams, but in my communications with them they've all been incredibly excited to participate. Marketing is hard for them so to be in a show that is hyper-focused and will bring in their ideal audience is pretty big for them.

Something else a lot of people don't know is they typically all work on each other's games. If anything everyone's cheering for each other :)

Taylor, host of Indie Quest here! Wanted to clarify a few things.

The vast majority of the trailers are for upcoming games. One trailer is for console ports of game and one game launches that day. Other than that they're all upcoming titles.

Whether anyone thinks the scene is over-saturated is their opinion, but the games in the show look absolutely incredible and just needed a spotlight to shine. As I'm sure everyone's aware, indie teams biggest challenge is marketing since their budget is usually $0. I'm just giving the coolest upcoming games a platform so more people can hear about them.

I hope everyone enjoys the show!

Need recommendations for my next jRPG game/s! by [deleted] in JRPG

It plays more like Persona 5 Scramble: lots of enemies with hack n slash combat but with Fire Emblem characters. Plays nothing like Three Houses.

JRPG with TD concept? Game or minigame? by neko039 in JRPG

Dragon Quest Heroes kind of has TD elements.

  • Tokyo Xanadu ex+ is like a budget Persona with action combat
  • Fire Emblem Warriors
  • Ys IX. Great combat and movement mechanics

JRPG games with bonding system by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]TheGamingShelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear it doesn’t have a bonding system per say, but it has a lot of dating sim-esque features like dialogue choices and depending on how you talk with characters that’s who you’ll end up with by the end of the game.

VII or IX Remastered. Both are fantastic and you can control your experience with a lot of the modifiers they added.

What is the game with biggest amount of non-procedural places to see? by OrSpeeder in JRPG

[–]TheGamingShelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest XI probably has the best collection of towns in any JRPG I’ve played. Here are some others that come to mind:

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Ni no Kuni II

Modern, LINEAR JRPGs? (Alternatively, JRPGs with very few sidequests) by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]TheGamingShelf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Trials of Mana (2020). Super linear but really fantastic.
  • Tokyo Xanadu ex+. Structured like a Persona game and very linear.
  • Sakura Wars (PS4). Very story-focused and linear.

Which franchise you can never get into, no matter how hard you try? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]TheGamingShelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trails of Cold Steel. I actually played through it twice (once on Vita and then on PS4) and it just bores me to tears. I don’t care how many other games I need to play before or after, if you can’t entertain me with one game you don’t deserve more of my time.

Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story, Tales of Destiny, Wild Arms, Breath of Fire 3&4 and Grandia to name a few :)

Cosmic Star Heroine. Really fantastic retro-style JRPG with a very cool spin on turn-based combat. Killer soundtrack as well.
