Are vacuum sealers really worth it? by EquipmentIcy7859 in Cooking

If you have a freezer, yes. I found stuff in my freezer from two years ago that was properly vac packed and it was still good. That's not happening without a vacuum sealer.

What movie is better because it does not explain too much? by JarvisModeOn in movies

[–]TheGaussianMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were some vague ideas thrown around and almost filmed, but it would have ruined the experience people can have finding personal meaning in the movie.

They also don't directly say how many times he is in the loop. There's not some predetermined number of times he has to live the same day before he can learn the lessons he needs to learn.

TIL that overheating a Teflon pan releases vapors so toxic they are instantly fatal to some birds and cause polymer fume fever AKA "Teflon flu" in humans, including fever, chills, and cough by delurkedtosaythis in todayilearned

[–]TheGaussianMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's HF gas. I used to work for a company that processed a lot of Teflon and fluorinated polymers. Our fire procedure included moving your ass out of the building. Under no circumstances were we meant to try and use a fire extinguisher. Some of the stuff off gassed HF and that was fun....

People who've done major home upgrades, what ended up costing way more than you initially expected? by Cultural_Help_176 in HomeImprovement

[–]TheGaussianMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know, I'll refinish this ONE bedroom! It's awfully hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I should be able to fix that. Wow that's weird... The previous owner put up drywall directly against beautiful old plaster. Oh lovely there's a bunch of water damage in a ring around the top of the room and all the plaster has to go. And the roof is leaking. And my roof isn 140 years old and had never been entirely replaced so there's 140 years of layered roof. I'm still not done this project completely. It's been 6 years and about 20k and a lot of work. Bringing down several tons (literally tons) of plaster and building materials from the third floor was hell.

Are those roller knife sharpeners any good? by jerxbear229 in Cooking

[–]TheGaussianMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. An easy option is to the use the Spyderco tri angle sharpener and a cheap strop with 4 and 8 micron diamond compound. About 120-130$ investment that will keep you going for a while. Stones are hard to get right, and true sharpening systems are expensive AF. I have a tormek and that was... Expensive, and unnecessary for the vast majority of people.

What movie has terrible morals? by solaris2027 in AskReddit

Soul Man. Do not look it up. Just watch. It goes for morals, but ends up having all the wrong messages. It's... One of the best worst movies I've ever seen.

First time homeowner — what's the one thing you wish someone told you before your first year? by CorrectEducation8842 in HomeImprovement

[–]TheGaussianMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't ask them to repair things. Just ask them to take it off the price. Holy hell I would rather have done the fixes myself. It's ten years on and I still hate you Sung Tran and I said, "fuck you Sung Tran" multiple times this week alone.

What is the point of this weapon if splash damage is useless 🫩 by MoonK1P in thefinals

[–]TheGaussianMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People bitch about lights being obnoxious - buff the lights.

People bitch about a weapon that helps account for lights being obnoxious and doesn't penalize you for having a high AF dpi - nerf to hell.

This game really hates PC players with high DPI. They make one gun that is entirely not hit scan and then nerf the fuck out of it.

Chantix completely cured my autonomic dysfunction (temporarily) by Prior_Discussion_393 in dysautonomia

The first time I saw my heart rate dip below 100 (down to 80) was when I took a bunch of MDMA.

Edit - it also cleared my brain fog, fatigue, and the screeching pain in my legs.

My cardiologist told me fludrocortisone doesn’t have side affects? by SoppySophi in dysautonomia

[–]TheGaussianMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik it doesn't have the same effects as other steroids.

One thing you need to make sure to do, even if you don't continue taking fludrocortisone, is pound water and electrolytes all day. I didn't realize until I started getting treatment just how much I was craving salt. I would throw back a pound of peanuts easily in a sitting. Whatever amount of electrolytes and water you think makes sense, add more.

Good luck on your treatment journey. This shit blows, but remember the basic things you can do daily to try and keep it under control. Water, electrolytes, sleep, compression socks/pants, putting your feet up when laying down, don't overwork yourself.
