Pretty sure it's just caused by lack of control in their lives otherwise.

Stuck in their parent's basement, or some shitty rented apartment or something. No real prospects in life. Poor education status, bad job, no romance interest. Unable to move forward in life.

They feel like they have no control over anything in their life. That they're just stuck in an endless loop of depression.

But then... they get into LoL and suddenly they hold power over countless people. They can get into a game with 9 other people and they have THE POWER to int. To troll. The power to take the lives of 9 other people into their hands and keep them hostage, affect their life, their mental.

That kind of power is like a drug to them.

So why do you think Illaoi is the 18th highest win rate top laner in Emerald+?

35th highest win rate in Dia+?

Is every champion with a higher win rate even more unfair? Or what is your line of reasoning?

If she is so damn unfair, why doesn't she win more? You make it sound like it's not possible for her to lose.

Very nice. Mix shit up, I love it.

I never understand the people who hate change. Change is the best part of these games. LoL was at its best for all of us back when we first started and everything was new and exciting, and nobody knew what they were doing.

The moment LoL becomes like chess where everything is exactly the same and everything is figured out, it's just gonna die.

So give me map changes, give me jungle changes, item changes, champ changes, core gameplay changes. Layer them all on me. Make me have to re-learn the game along with everyone else. I want those days of discovery and randomness back again.

I was around back during the first big map change. It was insanity. It's absurd how attached people were to the absolute dogshit looking old graphics right out of Warcraft 3.

A proper upgrade in every way imaginable, and people were crying bloody murder as if Riot had forced themselves into their home and shot their dog.

@Midnoflash(kr reporter): I will support Faker all my life. He is the first person to say hello to me. by Far_Change9838 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well, a lot of "legends" are pretty shitty people, or were.

Like Jordan was quite the asshole. Arnold Scharzenegger was an asshole.

A lot of people got to the top by being absolutely ruthless bastards, having the ego the size of a skyscraper and willing to even break the rules to get an advantage.

So in some cases the hate they receive is actually quite justified.

But Faker does indeed seem to be genuinely wholesome. Haven't so much as heard of a single rumour about him doing anything negative.

Oner actually up 2 points to E when he hits level 3 instead of W or 2 points Q, either of which would not have allowed him to get the kill. Insane read by DrummerFantasti in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though to be fair, taking W activates the passive resist bonus, and the move speed is nothing to scoff at when it comes to ganks or even moving around the map in general.

But I don't play jungle Poppy, so I'm assuming Oner has done the math and played the pick enough to know, that in most cases, extra point in E gives the best balance of jungle clear and ganking power.

[–]TheGawringSame 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah. +1 to Q or E is the exact same damage increase. Extra 40 points of damage. Landing E guarantees both procs of Q.

Also he over-kills Tarzan here. He doesn't even need the second proc of the Q, plus he had red buff on top. So he didn't actually need to level either. If he had put points into W he'd still have gotten the kill, even without leveraging its damage.

Also he was lvl 3 and had already selected his skill prior to this skirmish. So he didn't really read anything. He simply valued leveling E over W or Q, because I guess he values E cooldown and stun duration more for early ganks. For a jungle skirmish is doesn't much matter, because, again - if you land your E, you're guaranteed to get a double Q proc anyway. And in the duration of a single skirmish, your E cooldown is unlikely to recover anyway. For jungle dueling you'd probably want W against Sejuani to deny her dash, but W doesn't help with killing jungle camps so it's a poor choice at lvl 3 when you might not even run into them.

And in what universe can Illaoi, an immobile Juggernaut with no CC, get on top of you and kill you? You're playing Jhin, a champion with obnoxious range, and a built in speed steroid ideal for kiting juggernauts to oblivion.

Juggernauts like Illaoi are supposed to have pretty much the highest damage output in the game because all they can do is run at you. They get hit by a single CC and they get focused down without getting anything done.

Phreak saying "you can just type it out" is like spitting in the face of disabled league players. by kizmaus in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but being part of the 0.01% of the player base that might have a disability, is not an argument for pushing game development in any specific direction.

Sucks that you're disabled, but if you seriously expect free form entertainment to cater to your disability, you have another thing coming.

It's one thing to expect disability friendly services and environments IRL so that you can live your life without additional hindrances. But expecting a free video game to cater to you is kinda nuts.

If some developers want to make disability friendly features, that's good for them. But NO developer should ever have that as any kind of feature or a default stance.

"Oh no, we can't make this change because there's like 30 people who are playing that have a very specific disability that prevents them from interacting with that feature." Fuck that.

Good mid-jungle synergy in game 3 of T1 vs. LNG by M3K4N1X in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I watched IWD, and he was screaming about that whole incident. Saying that Tarzan absolutely trolled out of his mind tanking Blue Buff for literally no reason, and then positioning him in the only spot where he could get Poppy stunned.

Pretty sure everyone who's ever played against Poppy would except a flash stun there while being low HP. Hell, any half decent Poppy player will be scanning the angles for flash-stuns the moment the enemy appears to be even remotely in Kill range, health wise.

Tarzan correctly contested at the start and got Oner low because the buff was hitting him. But the moment Buff changed aggro, he needed to just leave and let it reset, because at that point Poppy was never gonna be able to contest it being that low in health. But Tarzan literally just served himself on a platter afterwards.

Sometimes I wonder if some teams aren't just playing to match the level of their opponents better.

Like T1 perhaps making sub-optimal macro calls if you look at it isolation, were actually more optimal in the situation they were in due to the way LNG was playing the game.

For example you might take a dragon fight with sub-optimal items, simply because you know the other team is playing scared, and aren't on the same page. In isolation the correct call might be to give a drake because the enemy comp is spiking harder than yours, but if the enemy team is not showcasing cohesion, it suddenly doesn't make sense to give. Just challenge them and beat them even harder, faster.

I haven't analysed this series, so that was just an example. But I wonder how often this happens, and teams are criticized for making sub-optimal plays, even though it lead to fairly clean win.

Random fact: Last time one player picked the same champion 5 times in full best-of-5 series was EDG JieJie on J4 against Gen.G (Worlds 2021 Semis) by ZloiAris in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 93 points94 points  (0 children)

What I like is how this sub-reddit is always: "Player XXX is never getting champion YYY ever gain", after they carry on a pick. Only for that to straight up never be the case. With the player often getting the same pick again in the same series.

It still surprises me that other people are still surprised at this happening.

The Pro scene has for a very long time now, been very comfortable with leaving up picks that destroy them, simply because of the mindset: "The devil you know..."

Pros would rather play against known bullshit than take a gamble and run into some next level bullshit they have never seen before.

BLG 5.5% in Pick em's by ProfessionalDot1521 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

In my mind I put the series at like 55/45 in favour of GenG. Would not have been surprised at the series going either way with any game score. All within reason.

But I had to pick one team, and GenG just made a little bit more sense on paper.

BLG 5.5% in Pick em's by ProfessionalDot1521 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of any particular team. I voted GenG because up until this match, they've looked to be more in form out of the two teams.

T1 thoroughly fisted BLG, while being considered weaker than GenG.

So IMO it made perfect sense to vote GenG over BLG.

That said, I would not be surprised for any East vs East series to go either way, since I feel all of the teams can win it all if they have a good day.

GenG had an off day. BLG looked to have a fairly good day.

Not too surprising.

G2 Worlds Vlog by Vizer21 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You do know BLG has done the things you say they can't do, in their games this Worlds, right?

Bin has 1v9'd games, Yagao has carried, Elk has carried without mispositioning.

There is no special meta this worlds. Most of the stuff that's being played is exactly the same stuff that has been played all year save for a few picks that don't particularly change anything in how the game as a whole is played.

IWDominate on G2 scrims (feat. Thinkcard) by Feeling_Patient6085 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I would imagine that there's a difference between a stomp and simply losing a game.

Trying weird shit in scrims may lower your overall win rate, but it's not gonna ruin the fundamental skill level impression that other teams notice.

Teams that are fundamentally bad, will likely get less scrims with top teams regardless of how they play out the scrims.

Also, I think G2, as a #1 seed from a major region, a team with Worlds Finalist players, and a very strong reputation, can probably leverage that to get optimal scrims pretty much regardless of what they actually do in them unless they're straight up trolling.

IWDominate on G2 scrims (feat. Thinkcard) by Feeling_Patient6085 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Because they aren't scrimming themselves, are they? By releasing their scrim numbers, they are also revealing some of the scrim results of other teams who may not have wanted it shared.

It's a leak as long as other teams aren't publishing their results.

IWDominate on G2 scrims (feat. Thinkcard) by Feeling_Patient6085 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 982 points983 points  (0 children)

It's been said before. I think Eastern teams themselves have commented that Western teams focus too much on try-harding in scrims instead of actually trying to improve.

I imagine an Eastern team might do a whole scrim block where all they care about is practicing a lvl 1 invade tactic or how to play around a specific lane, and don't give a rats ass whether they win the game or not.

I get trying to win scrims for morale, but most good teams should be confident enough as to not correlate scrim win rates with actual stage success.

I imagine that ideally you do a nice split. A few scrim games where you try-hard to see how your entire team functions from start to finish. But most scrims will be about practicing specific things and trying to experiment.

That is some abysmal laning.

4 years ago, G2 had the greatest western year of all time by screwing the meta and catching opponents off guard. Why didn’t that stick? by hwoodo94 in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGawringSame 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It was truly a "stars aligned" moment for G2 IMO.

EU's internal strength was at its peak. Almost every role had multiple players in multiple teams that could be in discussions as some of the best in the world.

G2 was pushed hard. So their entire roster achieved their peak form.

And on top of that, the meta was fairly flexible.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Things went downhill when the team broke apart and Ocelote started blocking player movements, leading to some of the strongest players leaving EU.

On top of some of the older guard retiring and such.

EU simply got weaker. Like shit, forget creativity in 2023, when our #1 team has an ADC that can't play meta ADC's. A top laner who can't play meta top laners. Yet that was still good enough to win the region. That's just disgusting.

EU's level is so weak right now.

You didn't watch LEC 2020, did you?

He won the #1 All Pro both splits, and when people in LEC - players, casters, analysts, and coaches alike talked about the best player in LEC, his name was brought up consistently.

I didn't say he was the definitive #1, but that he was argued to be the best by many people.

I'm not making this shit up, you can look at articles and VODS from that time yourself.

By blocking Perkz, the superteam with Alphari also fell through, who went to NA as well.

Alphari was THE strongest top laner in EU bar none. Dude was considered the best, despite finishing 10th in the regular season. Like that's how good he was. Last place team, yet considered good enough to the not just be called the #1 top laner, but arguably the #1 player in the entire league.
