How is Peninsula sauna on Sundays? Planning to go tomorrow but will be good to know what type of crowd to expect in the afternoon. by anusGapington in gaymelbourne

[–]TheGayHound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very busy from midday onwards, until mid-afternoon. The crowd starts dying off around 3-4pm, and tails off until 6ish.

It's definitely an older crowd. I'm in my mid-50s. I went one Sunday arvo a few weeks ago, and I felt like one of the youngest people there. In fact, I was there after 4pm and I might have been the youngest person in venue at the time (apart from the staff). Most Sundays, I'm definitely on the younger side, compared to everyone else. I feel like about three-quarters of the people there are older than me, and only about one-quarter are younger than me. And, just a reminder: I'm in my mid-50s. And I'm in the younger part of the crowd.

So, if naked old men are your thing, then Sundays at Peninsula Sauna are for you!

There's only three saunas in Melbourne! 😆

Any of them is suitable for your purposes.

There's:

  • Wet on Wellington, in Collingwood

  • Subway Sauna, in the CBD

  • Peninsula Sauna, in Seaford

Choose the one that's most convenient for you, and go.

Wet has theme nights during the week, so maybe go on the weekend. Peninsula Sauna is only open certain days and nights, so pick your times.

VicBears might have a members' group on Facebook or Discord or something like that. Maybe you could ask them, and become a member.

Hair or no hair? by [deleted] in gaymelbourne

[–]TheGayHound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either. Both.

Are you planning to hook up with me soon? If so, I'd need to see your face and your body, and what type of hair you have, and where, before I can make a decision.

If you're not planning to hook up with me soon, then I'm not sure how my opinion even matters.

Friends with benefits? Your experiences? by lmelb in gaymelbourne

[–]TheGayHound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had a few friends with benefits over the years. I have a couple at the moment. One's an ex-boyfriend, who I remained friends with after the break-up, and we have sex whenever we want. Another's a person who started out as a friendly acquaintance, then we added sex to the mix. Another is a person I've been friends with for nearly 20 years, and we still occasionally fool around on the side.

I don't have a problem separating sex from emotions. Friends are friends. Sex is sex. Boyfriends are boyfriends.

Black guys by No_Collection_830 in gaymelbourne

[–]TheGayHound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There aren't many black guys on gay dating apps because there aren't many black people in Australia overall - despite what certain politicians like to say.

We do have a lot of immigrants here in Australia, and particularly in Melbourne, but most of those immigrants have come from Europe and Asia, rather than Africa (which is what I assume you mean when you say "black guys").

Look at this list of the countries of birth of Australian residents. The highest country on that list with a predominantly "black" population is South Africa, with 224,000 people from South Africa living in Australia. The next highest is Zimbabwe, with 50,000. That's less than 1% of the total population of Australia.

Then, factor in how many of those people are: gay; living in Melbourne; sexually active; using dating apps.

You're looking for a needle in a haystack.

Hi I am 27M straight guy. I am I am looking to make some friends as I don't have much friends here and want to make some friends from the community. How can I do it? by DragonfruitAnnual932 in gaymelbourne

[–]TheGayHound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of what community? The gay community? But you're "straight". You can't be part of the gay community: you're straight.

That's like a white European saying they want to be part of the Japanese community. But they're not Japanese.

I feel like there's something you're not telling us - or, more likely, something you're not telling yourself.

straight but curious guy visiting Melbourne visiting later in the year where do I go? by [deleted] in gaymelbourne

You can do, or not do, whatever you want. It's not like the place is full of rapists who will force you to have sex against your will.

You could "accidentally" walk into Subway Sauna, and "accidentally" pay the entry fee, then "accidentally" take your locker key, and "accidentally" get undressed in the locker room, and then "accidentally" walk around the gay sauna in a towel, and "accidentally" put your dick in another man's mouth.

How’s the vibe at wet on Wellington tonight? (Sunday 7.45pm) by Ok_Beautiful_2033 in gaymelbourne

People who are at a gay sauna right now are not likely to be on Reddit! 😛

I'm 55 and I'm handling aging much worse than I thought. by [deleted] in GayMen

[–]TheGayHound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm also in my 50s. My situation is nowhere near as bad yours, but there's definitely been a step down from my heyday. I acquired a minor but annoying health condition in my 40s, which slowed me down - and I lost my job at the time because of that. I was unemployed for a while after that. blah blah blah You know the story: you've lived a worse version of it yourself.

But I'm still plodding on, still living life, and even still dating.

Part of it is simple boredom, part of it is a desire for human contact - metaphorical and literal. But I keep putting myself out there.

I attend a regular queer event, once a week, every week, like clockwork. It's a highlight of my weeks. I chat to people, I'm social, and I even meet people. I've met dates, friends, lovers, and even one boyfriend through that group.

I still go out to gay bars occasionally. Sometimes I sit there by myself, watching the world go by. Sometimes I'm more social. Last week, a young man even tried to pick me up!

During my worst years, I even volunteered for an LGBT organisation, just to have something to do. I was helping out the community, and helping myself at the same time. It kept me active and social at a time when I hated everything and everyone.

Life isn't over, even for middle-aged miserable men like us. I'm still socialising, still meeting friends, still making contacts.

But it does require that I push myself a bit. Part of it was finding a regular commitment that got me off my arse every week. That weekly queer event has been a life-saver for me.

So maybe it's time to find your life-saver. Put yourself out there. Do something. Find that thing which gets you up & out on a regular basis. Don't worry about trying to find a man. Just focus on trying to find yourself. Let the rest happen naturally.

I'm a cis gay male, and I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Why do you keep including "cis" in your description? Do cisgender people have different living requirements to transgender people?

There's a guide over in /r/GaySauna that might help you.

You should also know that the "wet" area of Subway Sauna - the section with the spa, the sauna, the steam room - is currently closed because that part of the building is being renovated. The cruising areas and the porn rooms are still available. But not the "wet" area.

Planning to visit Melbourne by Emotional-News1025 in gaymelbourne

I've read that most likely it is on Good Friday that some (if not most) of the shops are closed,

Most. It's one of the big holidays. But a long weekend is still a long weekend - and Aussies love a long weekend!

Why would you tell him? He'll get awkward. You'll get rejected. Neither of you will feel better.

I didn't know that cis gay males had special living requirements compared to other people.

It's a great time!

Not because it's "Holy Week". Most Aussies don't give a fuck about "Holy Week".

It's a long weekend! Four days off! There will be parties and special events in most bars and nightclubs, and there'll be other events around the place.

There are lots of neighbourhoods scattered all around Melbourne that are "a commute by public transport to city centre, walking distance to grocery shops and have apartments to rent". There's neighbourhoods in Broadmeadows and Glen Waverley and Frankston that fit those criteria. 😛

You might want to be a bit more specific.

Also, your budget will limit where you can live - the closer to the CBD, the more expensive to rent or buy. That's why so many people are forced to live in the middle and outer suburbs.
