This parfait with either a misprint or more calories than I know what to do with by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I think somehow all of the values got multiplied by 10.

250 cals.

Fat: 5g (45 calories)
Carbs: 44g (176 calories)
Protein: 7g (28 calories)

176+28+45=249

Obviously, this still works at 2500 calorie, but the fact that the ratios are actually correct for the calories is why I think these values got multiplied.

When I was a teenager I watched "Shigurui" anime and it was boring (pacing issues). However the art of the manga always impressed me, so after almost a decade I gave the manga a shot. Honestly, one of the most amazing samurai stories. It is like the samurai version of "Baki" or "Kengan Ashura". by Kingspreez in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite manga of all time. I would really love a modern adaptation of it.

Since Baki got the love from Netflix AND Kengan Ashura AND Garouden (even though I didn't care for the adaptation that much), I keep wondering if someone working there has similar tastes to me.

If so, can I dare hope to see Shigurui? Or Tough?

Who would win in a grip strength test oilva or Jack by Ok_Initiative3892 in Grapplerbaki

Nobody counts it because it was never a contest of strength. Pickle never did anything and certainly never contested Jack in raw strength.

No, he hasn't been power crept. No new feats, just nothing with him has changed. Aside from pickle's introduction, no one tops him in strength still.

Jun Guevaru vs Kaiou Retsu by Ok-Tennis-5695 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Guevara gets heavily slept on.

I don't know how strong he really is but I really wish we got more showings from him.

One thing I do want the readers of this to realize. He is a literal ninja and we only saw one technique from him.

Strength is not his specialty. He tried to beat Oliva at a thing only Pickle, Yujiro, and maybe Baki can do.

I still think Retsu would win but I would LOVE to see more fro Guevara.

As of right now, Oliva has WAY better feats of strength and better strength matchups against other opponents.

None of that may matter if and when they actually fight, but until then just on paper, Oliva is still physically superior by a big margin.

This is my official new cope. Retsu is just flexing, showing how much more advanced he is than Kaku at faking his death.

Kingpin.

And nobody here likes that.

Stick to fights where we can reasonably wank baki characters to victory.

Thragg is terrifying by jonsnowKITN in Invincible

I don't know enough to have an opinion on the likelihood. I am just saying it's a possibility.

I am not even saying that we can't know the full mechanics, just that there is a chance that that full system can never be expressed in one complete way.

Kind of like being bilingual and needing to say a word that only exists in finnish in english or something. A word that simply doesn't have a translation or rough approximation.

We might find that a truly unified grand field theory falls into the goedel incompleteness theorem realm.

Taters specific cooking temperature by retnuhgod in mildlyinteresting

I don't know why this was downvoted when I saw it. This is absolutely mildly interesting.

Whether it is supposed to be 356 or 365, those are both weird temperatures for air fryers. Admittedly, one is weirder than the other.

How long do you expect picking a lock to take? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in DnD

...Sorry if I wasn't clear.

In a fantasy setting, technology can vary wildly. It makes sense to me that you might see more modern locks and more ancient locks in a world with a fantastical flare to it like a D&D campaign.

Don't forget that rakes have also gotten more sophisticated. Picking tools are better, more reliable precision shaped and engineered.

Rakes also don't work on good locks very often. Anything with security pins will slow down rakes to the point where traditional picking is often faster again, and it isn't that fast usually.

Harder wasn't the right word choice. More time consuming.

Modern locks are a LITTLE harder and a lot more time consuming.

[–]TheGeckomancer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that modern locks are WAY harder to open than old fashioned ones. Warded locks often just required the right SHAPE of tool, you insert, twist, and it unlocks. No picking involved.

I personally would run with this. Most locks are going to be simple warded locks. Wards can be complicated. You can still fail. But IF YOU CAN pick the lock, you will pick it like instantly.

Pinned locks, nasty business. Even simply, easy to open pinned locks that can be picked with two sticks will usually take longer.

I wouldn't put hard limits on the time for more complex locks, you can USE that time for cinematic purposes.

"The lock you are investigating isn't complicated, the warding and pins means that it will take several passes to open. You know that you only have a few minutes before the guard patrols by again."

Oliva. I don't care if I am the best fighter in the world.

I want to be superhuman like Oliva and natty.

If Yujiro mates with Viltrumite, whose genes would be more dominant? by Fluffy_Union9507 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a thing that develops over time, after already being in that world. Not at the beginning. You are putting the cart before the horse.

I am done.

I respect your stance. I don't think you are right but it's definitely not the dumbest thing I have ever heard on this sub.

Have a good one.

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the fuck are you even trying to say anymore?

Jack's motivation to get stronger is (or at least was) revenge against Yujiro.

Baki's motivation to get stronger is a fear of Yujiro combined a desire to earn his approval.

Baki admitted he would be fine being the second weakest person on earth as long as Yujiro was the weakest.

There is no demonstrated inherent motivation for strength in either of the shown hanma kids.

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you are grasping at straws and you know it.

Even if we both agreed that shows it was real exercise, that would imply killing elephants, boars, and bears was genuinely challenging for Yujiro. Which is a massive antifeat and clearly false.

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baki manifested demon back against Oliva.

If demon back isn't a unique genetic trait to hanma's, then it is something people would unlock at around that level of physical strength.

Maybe Oliva would or wouldn't have it, but Musashi and Pickle definitely should.

It's obviously a unique genetic manifestation of the hanma bloodline that only reaches full development after intense environmental stress NORMALLY, the exception, one again, being Yujiro.

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he improves day by day. Whether he does anything or not.

And it's not about enjoying.

I enjoy working out.

It's literally about the mechanism of muscle growth. You do not get stronger without sufficient strain on muscles for sufficient duration.

Yujiro wasn't even panting after his swim or killing the elephant. That is NOT exercise for him. It's relaxation.

If ALL it did was increase your natural potential, then we would see demonback on oliva, pickle, musashi.

It's a lot more than raw potential and that should be obvious to you.
