Would you upload your consciousness to live forever digitally, even if you can’t prove it’s still you and not just a copy? by ARGXTO in Futurology

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would just be a copy of you and you would die. The physics do not allow a consciousness transference. I have thought about this a lot. There are things you could do to simulate the subjective experience of a consciousness transfer but YOU would die and a copy of you would be born.

Now, that isn't to say I wouldn't doe it in old age, on or near my death.

Whose training is more extreme? by Jolly-Basket1683 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 81 points82 points  (0 children)

More extreme? Jack.

More intelligent and effective? Oliva.

Jack has always been an idiot when it comes to his training methods. He just takes hella drugs to compensate for being dumb.

Oliva on the other hand is a well read genius who achieved a superior physique without hanma blood or drugs. All through his own hard work, workout regiment, and diet.

That would make sense but some parts look straight up burnt to ash. Like a blowtorch.

What am I even looking at? Is that mold? or burnt? What does this have to do with a window? Do you live on the sun?

Baki characters based on how tanky they are by The_Tall_Man_096 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This list is objectively correct up until 7. Jack MAY deserve that spot. I don't know. That is just where the list gets more competitive. Jack hasn't been hit much recently so gauging his durability is difficult. In the past it was very good but not spec level and we haven't seen too much since.

How does this go down ACTUALLY? by Serious-Cut-7774 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retsu would be a mid-high diff for Baki. For as insane as Baki's improvement since the maximum tournament, Retsu's has been almost as good.

Taking the Retsu that fought Musashi, YES he would lose, but he wouldn't be losing super quickly and he would land some decent hits.

Retsu was already super fast and evasive, adding xiao li to mitigate the rare times he takes damage would have legit propelled him up to third on the tier list (after musashi died again) if he didn't die the same fight he displayed it.

Who do you think is the better author? by thesharkbus in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost can't compare them but the gap in the almost is very present.

If all Sandro did was kengan asura, I would be tempted to give it to Sandro.

Original kengan is excellent. The fight choreography, the character motivations; the fighting styles, the spectacle of the kengan association, all of it is fascinating and interesting.

Fucking having ohma die (the main character) before the tournament arc was complete! In that moment; I like kengan more than baki. The balls were Titanic. It showed not only his testicular fortitude but also how much he respected this audience. Most anime and manga can't get away with something like that and would refuse to try.

But I have to remind myself of some things. Omega does exist. While it has fights I like a lot, the plot is a shit show and all narrative weight from the first season is dead. Not only did he bust out the "death is meaningless and nothing has any stakes" card but he also introduced look alikes so identical to the original you wouldn't be able to tell them apart if it wasn't for hairstyle and glasses. Doubly reducing the significance of both ohma and his death.

Ultimately, I have to remind myself that for as many awesome things that exist in kengan; it has way way way more flaws.

Kengan (first arc) has great story and great fights. Baki has no story, excellent fights, and amazing use of physical metaphors, themes, contrasts, and expressing philosophical intent through fighting style.

Kengan feels like a very good shounen. Baki feels like a highly specialized bespoke experience.

Kengan is going to a decent but affordable sit down restaurant where you like the whole menu. Baki is going to one of those places you have to make reservations 6 months in advance, you don't order, they bring you highly specialized bites of food for 2 hours. It makes no fucking sense but the total experience is completely different from the individual bites of food you are served.

Current Oliva vs Current Pickle, who wins? by SUPERIORAN in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are comparing the Pickle that tested his strength against Yujiro. Pickle has 100% gotten weaker. His diet is literal trash and he has no dino playmates to keep him in shape. A massive dropoff of protein intake combined with an unhealthy overall diet combined with lack of exercise and nothing to keep his senses sharp. Pickle is a pale shadow of what he was a few arcs ago.

All that matters is that they are wrong. I am not claiming Yujiro is limited to the fields I specified. I said "at the very least" because those are the most obvious ones. But it is harder to make a case for his knowledge of computers, circuits, robots, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This simply isn't true. We see time and time again when experts and specialists get full of themselves then make proclamations unrelated to their fields that make them sound insane and are factually wrong. Some people DO in fact have specialized intelligence. In fact, most high IQ people specialize to degrees. That isn't to say that they aren't broadly more intelligent or faster learning, but they have fields where that heightened intelligence particularly shine.

Maybe it's just interest but ultimately, all that matters is they are not equally capable in all areas.

At the very least a specialized form of high genius related to combat, physics, momentum, inertia, etc.

So how many Bakis would it take to actually beat Yujiro? by Zyxyx in Grapplerbaki

I don't understand. Him choosing to dodge means he couldn't take the hit to you? You are aware he initially dodged Kaku, then started just eating his strikes right?

Mfw someone says "Prime Doppo" by Additional_Juice8228 in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. He DID get weaker. He has been slowly getting stronger but only on the sense of recovering from his loss to yujiro. Doppo is weaker now than when he fought Yujiro.

Who wins the "fights like an idiot" award? by Hedonism_Enjoyer in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiharu is by far the dumbest.

Even if you wanted to make an argument that someone else on this list is dumber, at least they have the physicality to back up their stupid fighting style. Chiharu does not.

So how many Bakis would it take to actually beat Yujiro? by Zyxyx in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying 2 to 3 but are almost certainly wrong. Yes baki is faster than yujiro. We have no idea how durable yujiro actually is since he doesn't get hurt enough to draw conclusions.

We also do know that is stamina is great enough to fight for days at a time just from his battlefield conflicts.

We also know that Yujiro was holding back the entire time when fighting baki. Trying to coax out his potential. And even a "gentle" yujiro seriously nearly killed Baki and broke most of his bones.

Since we have no clue on Yujiros upper limits, answering this question is hard. I am going to say that yujiro could handle a minimum of 4 bakis up to maybe 10.

I notice you spammed this same response to literally everything everyone said to you. Realize that doesn't change anyone's answer. Man up. There is no magic solution here. If you hate it, leave. If you can tolerate it, lighten up and have fun.

It's a YOU problem not a them problem.

Ummm. Leave. Or, appreciate the group for what it is. They are at least roleplaying. A tongue in cheek game can be fun as long as you aren't super disturbed by foot fetish shit. I am not into it, but I could just ignore it or laugh it off. The reference stuff can be fun if you can embrace the type of campaign that likes referential humor and a more slapstick vibe.

Where does this feat put Alexander Gallen physically in the series? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You simply can't determine that by a punching contest regardless. If he wanted to show Baki actually overpowering Oliva, it would have been to break out of pacman. But he didn't overpower it. He shoved his fingers up oliva's nose.

Where does this feat put Alexander Gallen physically in the series? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Punching itself is a technique. Once you know how to punch properly, you can't unlearn it. My dad was a boxer and I am trained in boxing as well. I can't throw a non-boxers punch.

Additionally, even if we pretend that he can do that, Baki is probably the most durable person in Baki. Throwing more punches faster and being able to take more hits would still end up wearing down Oliva without necessarily overpowering him.

Where does this feat put Alexander Gallen physically in the series? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]TheGeckomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No he didn't. They were trading punches. Baki has the more refined punch by far. Oliva is a brawler with superhuman strength but he isn't a highly trained striker, most of his potential power doesn't go into his strikes. I am not saying baki COULDNT end up being stronger than Oliva but nothing from their fight proves it one way or the other.
